The date is February the 13th, it’s Thursday, a day before Valentine’s day. The whole school is preparing for the craziest ways to confess to their crushes for Valentine’s day. I stand at my locker open taking my bookbag out of the locker as the bell of the school rings loudly announcing the end of school. I close my locker as my friend Josh Wills comes up to me happily and smiling with a big grin looking like he wants to again tell me his plans to confess to the most popular girl in the school Sarah Richards who is the most athletic girl on the campus. “Hey Vince!” Josh said with a happy laugh waving slowly at me with a big smile. I look at him with a soft smile as I wave back “Hey…” I said in a gentle voice already knowing what he wants to talk to me about. I promised to help him with his plans on Friday morning.

Josh did what I expected and started ranting about his plans again.

“So you know Sarah Richards? The most beautiful and athletic and amazing girl in the school?” Josh said in a questioning manner.

“Yes, for the literal 20th time” I said in a frustrated voice not really wanting to hear this conversation again. Josh overlooked my tone and continued his rant.

“Well I’m going to confess to her in front of the whole school during lunch in the most romantic way!” Josh said with what seemed like an anime character about to be rejected as he clenched his fist and put it to his heart with a happy expression. Josh followed up his rant “You’re going to help me tomorrow morning to prepare, remember?”

“Yes, I remember I will buy you flowers for the confession after school today.”

“Yes! I’m so glad I have a friend like you!” Josh said as he jumped up in joy. “Yeah…” I was a good friend but it was kinda sad that he didn’t remember my birthday tomorrow, he never had tried remembering it ever since we met.

I finally noticed most of the kids finally left the school so I decided to say to Josh “Alright well by Josh.” Josh and I waved goodbye to each other as I walked home, when I was close to the house I remembered to buy flowers. It was already so late and it was getting dark, so I decided to run to the nearest convenience store and buy flowers. In 8 minutes I made it to the convenience store all out of breath, I took a break and walked in, I grabbed the first thing of flowers I saw, it was a bouquet of fake tulips, better than nothing. I grabbed the bouquet and walked to the register. The cashier took the bouquet and scanned it, he then placed it back down on the counter “5.99$” he said in an unenthusiastic tone. I grabbed a 10$ bill out of my wallet and handed it to him, he gave me 2.89 back because of taxes and then he put the flowers on the bag.

I grabbed the bag and quickly rushed home before it became completely dark as it was edging towards dusk, I ran as fast as could and managed to arrive 6 minutes later, I walked in all out of breath, winded from the rush as I put my bookbag down on the floor next to the stairs and sit down on the couch. “Welcome back dear” a female voice said from behind me, it was my mother. “Hi Mom” I said in an exhausted voice from being winded from all the running. My mom looked at me with worry, “Are you alright dear?” She said in a worried tone. I simply nodded and gave a thumbs up “Yeah, I’m just exhausted from running.” She looked concerned but she didn’t want to make the conversation worse so she let it slide for the moment. “Alright well dinner will be done soon so how about you go take a shower to wash up.” I nodded and I grabbed my bookbag and walked upstairs placing my bookbag in my room. After grabbing a pair of clothes I walked to the bathroom and ran the water, after 5 minutes into the shower I felt pain in my head. I thought it was just a migraine so I just hurried and finished my shower and dried up. I got dressed and went downstairs to eat dinner, later after dinner was finished I went and got ready for bed, my headache got worse so I took some painkillers to hopefully make the pain go away. I turned the lights off and went to sleep.
