Caged Bird

By: Cressidia

An angel belongs to no one.

If the angel begins to consider someone precious to them, they hold the world in their hands.

That is why the angel is left alone.

Perched in a tree, a male angel in a white suit looked out over the world he resided in.  Though it was small, it was filled to the brim with lush vegetation and many flowering plants, trees and bushes. The perfumed scent of mixed flowers hung in the cool air. One could describe this enclosed area as their own personal paradise… but that was far from what the angel believed.

For all of its glory, he lived there alone. What was a world of beautiful plants if he had no one to share it with?  The only living beings he had that were close to being “friends” were the animals and birds who were able to crawl or fly through the large, iron bars of his metal bird cage.

Blue eyes glanced up to the top of the cage, where all of the bars met in uniform.  Black iron stared callously back, like an unmoving monolith that reminded him of his captivity.  Short, snow white hair swayed gently in the breeze as his pale form looked despondent to the rain clouds gathered above.

With a heavy sigh, he opened his mouth to sing a tune of despair and sorrow.

Sitting here

Watching the world

Decay all around me

The essence of life drains

Caged bird with broken wings

Horror picture moving in slow motion

Won’t you please…

Please, help me

Drowning in despair

Kept in this place

Broken wings cannot fly

Into the Garden of Eden

Please…

Please help me.

For my caged heart longs to be free.

She shot up in bed, sweating and breathing heavily as she pushed the piles of blankets from around her haphazardly.  The woman’s pale pupils were as small as pin pricks as she reeled from her dream.  It all felt so real, as if she were there watching the solemn angel sing from the confines of his cage.

However, the reality of a darkened bedroom brought her back.  She could not see it, but the blurs were familiar enough to remind her of where she resided. However, a part of her could still feel the cool air of the bird cage, could still smell the perfumed air and faintly hear the melody of his words.

‘Who was that?’ She thought to herself. This angel keeps appearing in my dreams.’

Faintly, she could have sworn she still heard the remnants of his song.

Please.

Please, help me.

An angel is something that cannot belong to anyone. If the angel begins to consider someone precious to them, it's as if you are saying that the world is in the hands of the one who is thought of like that. This is why the angel is left alone.
