Death's Apprentice is a comic that contains depictions of fantasy violence, ableism, transphobia, and death, as well as occasional swearing. Content warning in chapter 1 specifically for trauma related to fire.
When Phoenix Wren’s Coming-of-Age ceremony doesn’t go according to plan, leaving him without the Divine Apprenticeship that all his peers received, it sends him into a tailspin. He always wondered why– whether he had upset the Gods somehow, by being too lazy or because he rejected the feminine name and clothes he grew up with, or because he simply wasn’t good enough. He would give ANYTHING to get magic powers like everyone else– but he begins to rethink that when he gets the answer as to why it took so long, being ripped away from his life and his loved ones in the process.
Being the Apprentice to the Grim Reaper is the last thing he wanted, something he LOUDLY makes known to his boss. But with time, maybe he can learn to love his new job and use it for good rather than evil, and find a way back to his best friend, Ollie– and admit that he hopes they can be something more.
