I bolted up in my bed as loud screeching filled the air. I looked at Marcus, who looked equally alarmed.
We stood at the opening of the tent. Jack walked out of the other tent, his face was terrifying.
"Jack! Wait!" Dad shouted after him.
"I can stop them! D-don't look at them whatever you do! Please." We all looked at each other confused.
Marcus closed the opening of the tent. I paced wondering how in the world a small elf would take out a bunch of creatures on his own.
Marcus drew his sword ready for a fight. Dad came in,
"Is he still out there?"
"Yes."
"Sire! Help!" Jack's voice rang out.
We all ran to him, "You have to snap them out of it! But don't look behind you."
"How?" We looked at the soldiers, one was crying, one was cursing, and the other one was trying to fight someone, they were all trying to go forward. It hit me, I'd read about these things. "Hey Simian, it's me, Rais! Come on, you'll see her again I promise." I shook him slightly. He blinked, "Rais! I saw her! My mum! She wanted me to come to her!" He sobbed, covering his eyes.
"I-I know... it was just a dream. Go back with the others."
"How'd you do that?"
"They show you your desires... oh no. Dad!"Marcus and I both grabbed his shoulders.
"Dad! It's us! Rais and Marcus!" The thing behind us shrieked. "Dad! Please!" My voice cracked. He blinked, "cover your eyes!" I shouted.
"There's too many of them!" Jack panted, sounding defeated.
"Well duh! You're only one elf!" A boy with dirty blond hair and green eyes spoke. He had the same features as Jack, and a girl followed close behind.
"Much good you would do stupid head. And you! What happened?! We had a plan!" She punched Jack in the arm.
"Sorry, I kinda got caught." He turned in our direction. "But I think those are the nicest kidnappers ever." I couldn't help but laugh.
"Ugh! You're worse than him."
Together they threw objects on the ground, and a giant wall of ice shot out in the direction of the floating white blobs. Their faces changed to mom, it's fake she's not here she's not here, she's not here.
"Rais! Don't you start too!"
"What?" I blinked,
"You were staring right at them."
"Was not!" I lied, he turned to Dad just in time for me to quickly wipe the tear off my cheek.
Dad burst into tears still affected. "He's not happy with what I've done... how I'm running the kingdom."
I hugged him, "You're doing great Dad! Those words are just a trick... don't listen to them! We're proud of you, Mom is proud of you."
I looked at Marcus, who looked freaked out.
"Take Dad inside the tent, I'll take care of these guys."
Marcus nodded. Helping Dad up, I looked back and found Jack and his friends gone.
"Looking for me?"
I swear I jumped a hundred feet, "gah! Don't do that!"
"Sorry." He laughed. "Man, I hate those things! I'm sorry about your dad... is he okay? H-he probably won't remember what happened."
"Why would white sirens attack us?"
Jack sighed. "They're after me... they have been for a while. I guess they thought now was a good moment since the elves are gone."
"You know you could've gone with your friends."
"I-I know... but being with you guys makes me feel sorta normal... as normal as an elf can be around humans. How are the knights?"
"Shaken up, but okay, so are they dead?"
"No, unfortunately, there's no real way to kill them. They just disappear for a while. How did you know about them?"
"A book. Jack, how were you not affected?"
"Y-you haven't noticed?" He seemed a bit pleased.
"What?" I stared him in the eyes. Which were bright blue but his pupils instead of black, were almost the same color as his irises.
"They feed off visual memory which is stronger than the rest. I-I hear my mom when they are here but their spell doesn't trap me like it does with others. Does that make any sense?"
"A little."
He yawned, "I'm going to stay out here Incase they come back again. I doubt they will but they brought reinforcements this time around."
"Okay. Be careful,"
"I make no promises," he propped up against a giant oak tree and was snoring in no time.
