I slowly regained consciousness to find the girl who had treated my wound earlier beside me. “I'm Luana,” she introduced herself, moving closer. “Woah, your eyes are as dark as night,” she added with a hint of awe. “Welcome to the group.” She extended her hand, and I flinched in response.
“No need to be scared; Luana is as sweet as a cat,” White said with a goofy smile. I glanced around, spotting him grinning at me. “What now?” I shot him a disgusted look.
“Well, look at that,” White said, showing me his phone with a smirk. The screen displayed a message: “Whoever brings Violet's head will get $1 billion in cash.” My picture accompanied the message.
“You jerk,” I snapped, hurling his phone away.
“C'mon now, I’m not letting them kill you,” he pouted, retrieving his phone. “I’m keeping you for myself, obviously.”
“Isn’t this just thrilling? We literally have a bounty on you,” Luana said with enthusiasm.
“No, no, no, I’m not staying with you people another minute,” I said, storming toward the door. As I opened it, a man stood there. He was tall, with light brown hair that covered half of his face. His eyes were deep-set and brown, resembling polished wood, and his strong, defined nose and muscular build made him an imposing figure.
“Just how many people are there?” I asked, feeling the weight of my dire situation. “That’s Auburn,” Luana pointed out.
“Well, look at that,” White said with a smirk. “As she pleaded for me to save her life, she now wants to run away from me.” He pulled me closer, his voice a low whisper in my ear. “Now, now, you're my pawn. You said you’d do anything I desire, didn’t you?”
His warm breath on my neck sent a shiver down my spine. Goosebumps rose as I struggled to maintain my composure and eventually collapsed to the ground.
“Looks like someone finally gave up,” White said, sitting beside me. “So why do you want to destroy the ‘Fox’?” he asked as I slowly moved away from him.
“Well, the ‘Fox’ stole my secret work—a pill code-named 5Xc,” he explained. “This 5Xc grants extraordinary powers to whoever swallows it. Each pill contains a unique power.”
“And… you want to retrieve your work?” I asked, trying to grasp the full extent of the situation.
“That’s not quite right,” he said. “I want to destroy both the organization and the 5Xc. This world would become extremely chaotic with that pill. It’s destructive.”
I was about to ask another question when a powerful gust of wind howled through the building. The roof shattered above us, debris flying everywhere. “She’s in here!” shouted masked figures hovering above. “This is bad; they’ve already started making deals with it.”
“Luana, Auburn,” White commanded. “Roger that.” Luana and Auburn sprang into action, their guns blazing. White grabbed my hand, pulling me along as we sprinted.
“You said that pill was secret work,” I panted, trying to keep up.
“I did,” White replied, his voice strained. “But I had no idea they were tampering with it.”
Before I could respond, a figure dropped from above, clutching a blazing fireball. “You’re finished!” he yelled, hurling the fiery projectile at me. I barely managed to dodge it, the fireball scorching the air where I had been moments before.
“That fireball is designed to burn its target!” I shouted, charging toward him. He continued to hurl fireballs, each one dangerously close.
Fueled by frustration and adrenaline, I tackled him with a powerful punch. The fireballs ceased, crashing to the floor and igniting the old wooden planks. I pummeled him relentlessly until his face was a bloody mess. As he reached for something in his pocket, I swiftly intervened, wrenching it from his grasp.
“A pill!” I gasped, recognizing it immediately. White stood behind me, observing silently as the room filled with smoke and flames. He seized my hand. “Enough. The man’s already done for.”
I released the now-lifeless enemy and examined the pill closely. “Is this the 5Xc?”
“Great work,” White said, snatching the pill from my hand. Luana and Auburn, both injured, approached us.
“Out! Now!” Luana yelled, her voice strained. We sprinted through the chaos, bullets whizzing past and flashes of light illuminating the darkness.
“What on earth did you create?” I yelled over the din. We ducked and dodged as the building’s disarray grew more intense. White, unfazed, looked at me with a wide grin. “Isn’t this thrilling?” he exclaimed, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
Despite the pandemonium, a surge of adrenaline coursed through me. There was something oddly exhilarating about teetering on the brink of destruction.
Once we were outside, White smashed a car window and deftly used a hair clip to unlock the door. We climbed in, and he started the engine with practiced ease. As the car sped through the rain-soaked streets, the night came alive with blurring city lights and the relentless drumming of rain against the windshield. The air was thick with tension, the flickering neon signs casting eerie reflections on the wet pavement. The distant wail of sirens added to the cacophony, blending with the harsh, rhythmic thrum of the car’s engine.
Inside the car, I shifted uncomfortably, my mind racing as I tried to piece together the gravity of the situation. White, with his sharp eyes and meticulously styled hair, sat beside me. His confident demeanor remained undiminished despite the chaos we had just escaped. His tailored clothing was immaculate, contrasting sharply with the messiness of our recent escape. His calm demeanor radiated an unsettling calm, even as the world outside seemed to crumble.
I glanced at Luana, her face a mask of concern and resolve. Her practical ponytail and functional attire were a testament to her no-nonsense attitude. Her eyes, sharp and vigilant, darted between White and the stormy night outside.
I turned to White, determined to get some answers. “What exactly is the 5Xc pill? And why did you create it?”
White smirked, seemingly amused by my curiosity. “The 5Xc pill is my greatest creation,” he explained. “It grants extraordinary powers to whoever consumes it. But with great power comes great chaos. This pill was created for my own personal reasons.”
I frowned, trying to process his words. “So you created a pill that could potentially wreak havoc on the world?”
White nodded, his expression turning serious. “Yes, and that’s why I need to destroy it. I never intended for it to fall into the wrong hands.”
As the car sped through the rain-soaked streets, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was being pulled into something far greater than myself. The storm outside seemed to mirror the turmoil inside me, and with White by my side, I knew that things were only going to become more complicated. All I could do was brace myself for whatever challenges lay ahead and prepare to face the dangerous world beyond the car’s safety.
