Prince Vespher has just inherited his father’s kingdom. Known throughout the world as an imperialist superpower, the Kingdom of Valence is ever-expanding through conquest. But Vespher is a pacifist, and he’s announced an abrupt end to Valence’s doctrine of war.
The new king’s proclamation comes amidst tensions with the neighboring kingdom of Radia, an isolationist society deep in the desert. Radia has long been known for its use of a destructive magic called DealMaking to defend its hidden cities.
Not everyone agrees with the young king’s vision of peace. Vespher’s uncle Godryk, commander of the military, is now under pressure to rein in his radical nephew.
