The human capital of Bastion was a city engulfed in chaos. The distant sounds of sci-fi gunfire reverberated through the air, signaling the intensity of the battle that raged on.
Prince Leo, his face set with a mixture of fear and resolve, pushed ahead of his troops, the urgent need to protect his people and his family driving him forward.
His soldiers, equally desperate to protect their own families, followed closely behind, their concern for their fellow humans evident as they glimpsed the devastation that lay ahead.
The Voidkin, eerie creatures with elongated, humanoid purple bodies that lacked a mouth and eight sinuous tentacles for legs, advanced through the city with unsettling calm.
Their weapons discharged in precise bursts, and the bodies of those who fell bore the grim mark of their advanced technology.
The demons accompanying Auriella marched at their own leisurely pace, their chuckles at the human knights rushing desperately to save their people, cutting through the sounds of the warfare.
"Enough!" Auriella's voice cut sharply through the staunch air. She turned to her demonic comrades, her gaze fierce.
"You act as if you wouldn't do the same if the roles were reversed. Silence your laughter at once and focus on the task at hand!" The demons fell silent, chastened by her commanding tone.
Auriella drew her sword, raising it high above her head.
"Charge! Wreck havoc on these tentacled wretches!" She shouted, her voice rallying her soldiers into action. As Auriella led her forces into the fray, the chaos of the city unfolded around her.
Human children wept beside fallen parents, while brave yet futile attempts to repel the Voidkin were met with harsh consequences.
Amidst the turmoil, Leo fought with determined fury, his sword flashing as he battled through the advancing Voidkin.
His armor was stained with green blood, and his hair was plastered to his forehead from exertion.
Spotting Leo amidst all the fighting, Auriella approached him, her tone laced with a mixture of criticism and concern.
"I see you've chosen to fight here rather than retreat to the castle for your father. Are you so intent on proving your bravery?" Leo, his face streaked with sweat and grime, met her gaze with defiance.
"What kind of prince would I be if I abandoned my people in their time of need? My place is here, protecting them." Auriella regarded him with a mix of respect and impatience.
"If you are resolved to stay, then do so. Just know that my men and I can handle the rest here just fine by ourselves." She turned away, her attention shifting back to the ongoing battle.
Leo, his determination bolstered by her words, raced toward the castle. As he approached the grand steps, three Voidkin blocked his path.
"Get out of my way!" He demanded, brandishing his sword. The Voidkin, unfazed, aimed their weapons at him.
Leo dodged their shots with agility, though one of the beams grazed his right arm. He plunged his sword into the nearest Voidkin's torso, twisting the blade to ensure a fatal wound.
The Voidkin, writhing in agony, tried to claw at the sword, but Leo held firm, knowing that releasing it would mean certain death.
With a final, strained effort, Leo pulled his sword clean through the Voidkin's body, ending its life. As he turned to face the other two, he noticed their weapons primed.
Just as he braced for another onslaught of bullets, the Voidkin were suddenly encased in ice up to their shoulders, their movements halted. A voice echoed in his mind.
"Release us, you beast!" The voice was not directed at Leo but the presence he felt behind him. Auriella appeared, her sword slick with green blood.
"Struggling with just a few?" She taunted Leo. "Is this all the great prince of Miravia can manage?" Misty clones of Auriella's sword formed above her head, each one poised to strike.
The Voidkin's vertically slitted eyes widened in fear as the swords descended with deadly accuracy, severing their heads in a flurry of green blood.
"Now go!" Auriella ordered, her tone both exasperated and commanding. "Or shall I clear the path for you once more?" Leo, taken aback by her formidable presence and skill, offered a hasty gesture of thanks.
"Thank you again, General!" Auriella watched him ascend the castle steps before turning back to the city.
"Time to finish cleaning up this city," she said with a grime smile. With renewed resolve, she led her troops in a final push, determined to rid Bastion of the remaining Voidkin and restore some semblance of order to the chaotic capital.
