As per William’s suggestion, Daniel had put the school under lockdown. Having the school's guard force, that seemed more like a private militia, posted all around the school.
He made also sure that none was to get in contact with the food the school serves, as well as making every student go through vigorous drug tests to know if they had digested any trace of angel eyes.
Whilst the students were getting checked up on by the health department, Daniel called William and the other head teachers up to his office to explain what William had found out.
When William got to the room, it was full of people all with the same worried look on their face.
Some of the teachers he had seen before. Jenny and Anna Petterson stood right next to the door he entered through, and William also recognized Bernard whose usual tiered expression showed a bit more emotion as William walked in.
William realized that the other professors and teachers in the room where practically strangers to him. He had worked at the school for a bit now and had at least heard the names or seen the faces of his colleagues, but he had never gotten to know them.
Nevertheless, William gave a report on what he found out during his "interrogation" with James, purposely leaving out the comments on James knowing him.
"So, the ISC is using one of the crowns to get rid of us." Daniel summarized.
"But why now? It seems so out of nowhere for them to start their attack." a professor clad in a marine blue suit asked, his voice was higher pitch than one would expect it to be.
William recognized this woman to be the professor for class 68 as well as being the head teacher of mathematics and spell alterations. Her name was Rosetta Armand.
"It could be that they just now got the finished product of the drug and decided to go after us as soon as possible. Like a surprise attack." another teacher jumped in.
This professor was another one that William had just met whilst wandering the halls. His name was Ferdinand, and he was the head teacher of art and artifact usage 101, he wore red robes contrasting against his dark skin.
"Could it be that it's because we started up class 46 again?" Another female teacher asked.
"Maybe we should get in contact with the other schools to notify them of this threat." another man said, this man wore a suit which was painted green and black.
This man stood rather close to Daniel, and he had only heard of this man’s name. Biran Anderson, he was the one closest to Daniel, his right hand man. Biran was the head teacher of class 200 and a teacher of religion and magic in astronomy.
"I have a feeling that they have already fallen for the ISC's attack." Daniel spoke.
The room let out a collected gasp of shock before he continued.
"I sent out messages and people to the headmasters of the schools for weeks now with no response from either, and with this recent information, I believe that it's proof of what might have happened to them." Daniel explained.
"Aren’t you an officer for the ISC?" William asked, breaking the silence that had fallen over the room.
Biran stared daggers into William as his question seemed to echo around the room.
"How dare you! Are you trying to insist that Sir Foster has anything to do with this!" Biran roared in frustration at this accusation.
William quickly put his hands up.
"No, I'm certainly not. But we have to cover all the bases, right?" William tried to defend himself.
Though his comment was met with mostly agitated looks from the other staff, he saw that some shared his worry.
"Why you little..." Biran cursed.
Daniel slowly raised his hand.
"It's alright Anderson. You can’t really blame him for his worries." Daniel spoke calmly.
"However, I can assure you that I am not behind this, in fact I am not associated with the ISC any longer."
The statement surprised everyone in the room, except of course Biran.
"I'm sorry for keeping this from you, and I know I should have most likely told you all this sooner, but I was... I wasn’t sure how to tell all of you." Daniel said, his voice regretful.
"I ran away and, in the process, made an enemy of the ISC as I became principle of Elysium." Daniel explained.
The room went quiet again, but soon again it was William who broke the silence. Wanting to stay on topic.
"Then could it be like a killing of two birds with one stone situation. Getting rid of the school and you with it. Tying up all lose ends that could be a threat for them." William suggested.
"Two birds..." Daniel snickered quietly whilst keeping eye contact with William.
Daniel's eyes stared into him, like if he was wanting some sort of reaction. Like if he knew something the others didn’t, and that fact caused William to shiver. For he felt like Daniel knew something about him.
"Maybe, but I'm pretty sure that the ISC hasn’t figured out yet that I deserted them. Since I faked taking on a mission that holds a 99% fatality rate." Daniel explained.
"And I made sure to take out any form of trackers they could have implanted in me."
"Then maybe someone higher up figured it out." William retorted.
"That could be true." Daniel said, scratching his chin.
"But if they know or not, it doesn’t really matter. Since we now know that they are behind this. Which means that we now have a clear enemy." Daniel began.
"Now I want all of you to return to your stations. None will be allowed to leave school grounds unless I say so. We will soon have gone through the student’s drug check, and we will directly start with the teachers as this meeting is adjourned. If traces of Angel eyes are indeed found in us or the students. They will be put in lockdown without contact whilst the health department tries to get a cure." Daniel instructs.
"I will get in touch with other schools and allies to see if they can be of assistance. Otherwise, we will keep classes as usual. I don’t want to stress the students more than I already have with this lockdown."
"And with that, I want all of you out of here. or no. William, you stay." Daniel then commanded.
As the other teachers slowly walked out the door, the only ones left in the lavender-smelling room were William and Daniel.
"William, you said there is most likely a mole in the school, correct?" Daniel asked.
"Since it can have been mixed into our food, then it's either that our food inspectors have missed it or that someone has been letting the drugs flow in on purpose." William said, explaining why he believes the school has a mole.
"Then do you suspect that it could be one of your students who could be the mole or even work for it?" Daniel asked.
William stood quiet for a moment thinking it through. Looking back at how the students acted during the attack on the hanger. No one seemed to act suspicious or out of the ordinary when interacting with the drug.
"No, I don’t believe so." William then spoke.
"Perfect. Then I want you and your class to be helping me find this mole." Daniel said.
William looked at Daniel perplexed.
"Really? How do you know I’m not the mole and I have been lying the whole time?" William asked.
Daniel let out a small laugh at that.
"Well call it a gut feeling but I don’t see you as one to work hand in hand with the ISC." Daniel said.
William laughed at that.
"Fair."
"But if you really want to be sure, then there is a way we can find out if you are on our side or not." Daniel said with a grin.
William gave him an intrigued look as Daniel stood up from his chair and started walking towards a green door that had suddenly appeared next to them.
Daniel opened the door and signaled him to enter.
"You first." William said.
Daniel gave him a nod and entered through the door. The door led up to a winding staircase made of cold stone with cold iron bars on the sides to keep you from falling. In fact, most of the place was cold. The air they breathed, the walls around them, their clothes, everything suddenly got colder and colder.
The stairs led them to another door. this one was made of Iron and was thick. Almost like one leading to a prison cell.
"Where the hell are we?"
"Language! You are about to meet a student." Daniel berated him.
"A student?" William asked.
"Why do you have a student up here and locked behind a door like this?"
"Are you perhaps confusing students with prisoners? Damn, I guess age is hitting you hard." William teased.
In response, he got a punch to his shoulder.
"You are only like three years younger than me." Daniel retorted.
"And no. She is not our prisoner. This is something she has requested, in order to keep her and the rest of the island safe." Daniel explained.
"She is the strongest sage we have here at Elysium, probably on the entire island. Her name is Abigail Ward, she was once a prisoner of the ISC for her remarkable abilities and she has an amplitude of 9,1." Daniel explained.
William was shocked.
"9-9,1!" he exclaimed.
"Indeed, not just that she has seemingly a multitude of abilities, one of which shows who she can trust by going through their actions in life and therefore judging if they are a threat for her or not. Since she has regarded Elysium as a place she can trust, I believe this can verify if I can trust you or not." Daniel explained.
"O-okay..." William said, a bit hesitant.
Daniel then opened the door to reveal a girl seeming to be around his student’s age. She had long dark hair and almost snow-white skin. She was really similar to the old tales of Rapunzel as her hair basically covered her entire body.
"Are you sure she isn’t a prisoner?" William whispered talking about her hair.
"I have been begging her to cut it, but for some reason she just doesn’t want to." Daniel whispered back.
The two then walked into her room. Almost as soon as they did, they were both met with a wall of pure intensity. She produced an aura that almost forced them out of the room.
"Abigail! I brought a new friend with me. He is a new teacher here, and I wanted you to meet him." Daniel said, seemingly unbothered by her intense aura.
As soon as Abigail noticed them, the intense pressure faded as she controlled the output of her aura. The girl stood up and looked at William confused.
"Friend?" Abigail asked, her voice focused and almost as cold as the air around them.
In that moment, William felt as how her eyes pierced through him. Observing him, looking through his entire body and mind to drain him of his past actions and memories. From him then, a bright ball was squeezed out. The ball flew towards Abigail, and she looked into it with curious eyes.
The air in the room became tense as Abigail then lifted her eyes from the orb and back to William, and a single tear ran down her cheek.
She let go of the ball and gave Daniel a nod.
"Friend." she repeated back to him.
"Good. Now William, how do you feel about adding another student to your class?" Daniel asked.
"W-what?!" William exclaimed, as he desperately tried to regain his stamina.
"You see, for the past few years, I have been the only one that was capable of teaching her anything. And with that she has been able to control herself a bit more, and I believe she would be a perfect fit for class 45. Giving her past with the ISC." Daniel explained.
"Besides, I believe she can be of use to you in trying to locate the mole." Daniel explained.
William looked to the girl who returned his gaze with one full of sadness and sympathy.
"You’re the boss." William said with a sigh.
"Perfect, then I will give you her papers tomorrow morning. Why don’t you head to the nurse’s office to get yourself tested for the drug." Daniel said.
With no hesitation, William headed towards the door, but before he left, he glanced back to Abigail once more. She still held that expression of sympathy towards him.
"I wonder how much she saw..." William thought as he descended down the stairs.
After getting himself tested by having his blood drawn, he headed back to his room.
William lay there on his bed thinking through more of what James had told him.
"So, there is a rumor that I'm dead, huh? That's seems almost too good to be true." William thought.
As he went through more and more on what he had learned from James and the meeting today.
"Haven’t seen the ISC go on the offensive for a while." he spoke out into the empty room.
"It makes sense. They have all of their possible threats in one place. It would be the perfect time to strike. Elysium, Daniel, class 45, and... me." William realized.
"No, but that can’t be... they shouldn’t be aware that I’m here... or maybe." William thought, feeling as the skin on his left shoulder itched.
"Oh that's Cleaver. That's very cleaver." he mumbled.
Williams lips curled into a wicked grin. As he let out a soft yet awful laugh.
"That means that it's not just all of Elysium and Daniel that are players in this game of yours. That means you threw in my piece as well." William thought.
"How thrilling."
"A proper game of cat and mouse. Yet now I'm cornered. Surrounded on an island right where you would want me. And probably all filled up with your new drug... How will I leave? How will I survive?" William thought.
He let out a small cackle.
"Fuck this is fun..." he spoke.
"Fine then, I'll play your little game. Gabriel."
