"Go on a date with me, please? Just one!" Nicolai begged and Lake stared at the persisting man before sighing tiredly

"It's been two months... You still won't give up and find someone else?" Lake asked in defeat and Nicolai shook his head immediately

"No! I don't want anyone else but you" He replied in a sulky tone and Lake couldn't help but accept 

"Fine, I'll go on a date with you only once because you don't look like creep" Lake said in fake disappointment and Nicolai grinned happily

"Really?" He asked, his imaginary tail wagging in excitement and Lake didn't want to admit it but the cute, happy smile of Nicolai made his heart flutter

"Don't get too excited, it's only one date!" Lake pointed out and Nicolai nodded obediently

"I know! But I am still happy to date you! I cab't wair, We're going tomorrow!" Nicolai exclaimed, unable to hide his excitement

"And what if I'm not free?" Lake teased and when Nicolai's smile instantly died, Lake could feel his heart clench in pain as he imagined drooping ears and tail.

Awe baby no! I was joking!

Lake cooed to himself

"Oh... Sorry" Nicolai mumbled in dissapointement and Lake groaned, ruffling Nicolai's hair, as if to comfort a little pup that has just been scolded

"I was kidding, I'm free tomorrow" Lake cood softly, appeasing the kicked puppy in front of him.

'Finally, you tsundere!!' Lake's wolf said in annoyance, rolling his eyes at his dumb human and Lake frowned

'I'm not a tsundere' Lake retorted

'Says the single man who rejects everyone!! I want a mate. I am lonely!!' Forest, Lake's wolf whined sadly and Lake couldn't help but feel sorry for his poor wolf. Forest had always supported him in the past when he rejected potential mates but it seemed like he really liked Nicolai's wolf.

'Sorry little guy, I'll try for you, okay? Do you like Nicolai?' Lake asked and the wolf nodded his head

'Yesss, specially his wolf!!! His wolf makes me drool' The wolf exclaimed in awe and Lake cringed

'Too much information, silly wolf' He said in disgust

".....The world doesn't freeze when you talk-"

"Oh shut up, I know" Lake scowled to Nicolai who chuckled

"See you tomorrow!!" Nicolai exclaimed and as he happily walked towards the pack house, he nearly tripped.

"Silly man"

Lake woke up that morning, only to hear scratching on his door making him frown. He glanced at the clock, only to see that it was 4.20 am!

Who in the hell was waking him at 4.20!?

Groaning in annoyance, he got off from his bed and slowly opened the door, only to see a big fluff ball stare at him with what seemed like a happy grin

"Niles?" Lake questioned in his morning voice and the wolf lifted its paw, as if asking for permission to enter lake's room

"Sure, come in" Lake welcomed and the wolf entered inside, sitting at the foot of his bed

As soon as Lake closed the door, the wolf shifted into Nicolai with yellow eyes

"I'm sorry to disturb you, pretty mate" Niles apologised gently and Lake rubbed his head in embarrassment

"I-I'm not your mate" Was all he could mumble and Niles chuckled deeply

"Sure, you aren't! I'm here to tell you that Nicolai is sick but he doesn't want to listen to me! Whenever Nicolai gets sick, it's not evident at all. He acts normal but at a certain point, he just passes out on the spot and takes weeks to get better. He's too excited for your date today and doesn't want to listen to me! He also had the audacity to block me, can you imagine that?" Niles asked in disbelief and Lake chuckled at the wolf's annoyance

"So, when he slept, he forgot to block me and here I am!! I'll like for you to refuse the date with him! Even if it hurts him, it will be better for his health! Don't tell him what I did though!" Niles exclaimed and Lake nodded

"Okay, I won't" Lake replied and Niles smiled

"Thank you, pretty mate" Niles cooed and Lake groaned

"I'm not your mate!" He argued and Niles laughed, walking towards Lake who averted his head

"You're so sweet" Niles cooed, stroking Lake's cheeks

'Sweet? He's bitter, just like a middle aged Karen' Forest scoffed to Niles who bit his lips, trying his best to not laugh

Lake turned red at his wolf's remarks and stepped back, pointing to the door

"Get out now" Lake scolded with pink cheeks and Niles grinned

"Alright little mate, I'll be back soon!" Niles replied before exiting Lake's room

Lake sighed before glaring at the bed

'Forest!' Lake hissed, only to see his wolf turn his butt towards him, his head high

'Forest my ass!' The wolf replied

'Asshole' He mumbled

'Coward who doesn't listen to me! All the other guys were creepy and I understood why you refused them but Nicolai? That man is a sweetheart and you're still acting like a fucking kid! You're being annoying and selfish! You only think of yourself! I want a mate too but I don't know what kind of games you're playing!' Forest hissed in anger and Lake rolled his eyes

'Mind your own fucking business! It's my life, I do what I want' Lake replied coldly and Forest huffed

'See? You're doing it again! Don't be mad at me, I'll cry!' Forest whimpered and Lake chuckled

'Silly wolf! I am not mad at you, don't cry!' Lake cooed to the wolf who slowly looked at him with puppy eyes

'Really?' He asked softly and Lake nodded

'You're such a silly pup!' Lake cooed and the wolf wagged his tail slowly

'I want a mate' He sulked like a baby, looking on the ground and Lake smiled softly

'I know pup, I know'

.....

At 5.00, when Lake woke up, he hesitantly stood in front of Nicolai's door, thinking about what to say to him

He took a deep breath and knocked at the door which opened quickly

"Hi!" Nicolai exclaimed excitedly and Lake smiled nervously

"Uh hi! I'm-"

"I'm so excited for our date today!! I still can't believe that you accepted to go out with me" Nicolai exclaimed in pure joy and Lake bit his lips. His heart beat quickened and he could feel a knot around the throat. He absolutely didn't want to break Nicolai's heart but he knew he had to do it, specially since Niles requested it.

If something happens to Nicolai, Niles would be pissed at Lake. Everyone believed that wolves loved their mates more than anything but in reality, Wolves loved their humans. They want their human to love the mate they chose and want their human's happiness more than anything.

"I'm sorry Nicolai, I don't think that we can go on this date...I'm not feeling too well" Lake trailed and Nicolai's face turned into concern

"What's wrong?" He asked and Lake shrugged

"Just...um I don't know, just sick I guess" Lake said, feeling bad for having to use such an excuse and Nicolai nodded in understanding making Lake feel shittier

"It's okay, I understand" Nicolai replied softly and Lake cleared his throat

"How about we watch a movie in my room later?" Lake asked nervously, not looking at Nicolai who grinned

"Yes!" Nicolai exclaimed without hesitation and Lake sighed in relief on hearing the happy tone of Nicolai

"Um...I uh, I'm sorry. I really wanted to go on the date with you" Lake confessed before trying to run away so as to avoid Nicolai but the latter caught his arms, pulling Lake to his chest

"Do you really mean it?" Nicolai asked and Lake let out a huff, pushing Nicolai away

"Not anymore" he mumbled before walking away while Nicolai smiled to himself

...

"Nicolai?" Lake hesitantly said, trying to wake up the man who was asleep on his lap. They were watching a movie in Lake's room and they had both fallen asleep. They were on the ground with Lake leaning against the couch and Nicolai with his head on Lake's lap

"Nicolai?" Lake asked gain, patting his shoulder.

Lake hesitantly placed his hand on Nicolai's forehead, only to realise that he had a fever. He then remember what Nicolai's wolf told him and Lake was glad that they didn't go out

'Uh kairos, I need help!'

....

With the help of Kairos and some pack members, they carried Nicolai to his room after calling the pack doctor to examine him.

"When is he waking up?" Lake asked in concern and the pack doctor smiled, ruffling lake's hair

"Dont worry kiddo, he's fine! He's just unconscious and his wolf is healing his body. He'll be fine tomorrow! He seems fragile and his state could have been worst if not for the fact that his body seems relaxed. He'll wake up in two hours" He said and Lake sighed in relief

"Okay, thanks" Lake replied and the pack doctor smirked

"How sweet! The alpha brought his mate and now, our beta found a mate too" He teased and Lake scowled

"That's not true!" Lake replied

"Suree!" The doctor teased before walking away.

Lake sighed and sat on a chair, putting a wet cold cloth on Nicolai's forhead. He made sure to change it every 2 minutes and went to the kitchen to make some soup.

"Should I help you?" Marian, the woman in charge of the kitchen said and Lake shook his head

"Na, it's fine! I can coo-" Lake winced when he accidentally touched the hot steam cooker. He quickly placed his hand under the water, waiting for his wolf to heal him

'I'm not healing you! Not until you admit that you like Nicolai!' His wolf complained

'Forest, I don't have ti-' the wolf in question showed Lake his butt once again before blocking him making Lake groan

"Stupid wolf!" He exclaimed to himself, wincing when he accidentally pressed on his burnt finger

"Should I place the soup in a bowl?" The lady asked and Lake smiled in embarassement

"Yes please!"

Carrying the tray of hot soup, Lake entered the room of Nicolai which was opened

The man in question was awake and he was playing with his shirt

"Hey, you better now?" Lake asked and Nicolai grinned

"Lake!" Nicolai exclaimed in joy and Lake smiled lovingly

"Yeah, it's me! One of the lady made soup for you, here" Lake said, placing the tray on Nicolai's lap making the latter frown

"No! Feed me?" Nicolai asked with puppy eyes and Lake scowled

"You have hands" Lake pointed out and Nicolai sighed

"I tried" He mumbled, sulkily eating the soup

Ughh cute

Lake thought to himself

"hmm, food good" Nicolai moaned and that pleased Lake's heart

"I'll make sure to tell the lady" Lake said and Nicolai smiled, bringing the spoon to Lake's mouth

"Taste it?" Nicolai asked and Lake scooted back

"Keep your germs off me, please" He replied and Nicolai laughed before starting to cough

Lake quickly placed the tray on the table next to the bed and patted Nicolai's back

"There there, it's fine" Lake cooed, placing his hand on Nicolai's forhead to check his temperature

"What's that?" Nicolai asked in concern, taking Lake's right hand, only to see a red spot that was turning purple

"Nothing" Lake said, snatching his hand away but Nicolai took it once again

He gently rubbed his thumb on the wound making Lake flinch

"Why isn't it healing?" Nicolai asked in concern and Lake shrugged

"My wolf is being a baby" He mumbled and Nicolai hummed.

Lake let out a weird embarrassed noise when Nicolai started pressing kisses on the bruise

"What are you doing!?" Lake asked in embarrassment, getting up quickly and Nicolai stared at him innocently

"What? Just wanted to kiss your boo-boo better" Nicolai teased and Lake turned red

"You- ughh I'm going" Lake mumbled, taking the tray of soup before walking away, hearing Nicolai's laughs

Nicolai started coughing again and Lake snorted 

'Karma is a bitch! Choke and die!'

He thought to himself as he headed back to the kitchen
