Lilies are often used in weddings & funerals, because of their significance as mentioned. I have been advised by several hospital nurses that they hate them as the perfume reminds them of the smell of death. Additionally, it ought to be noted that the pollen can permanently stain fabrics - imagine ruïning your date’s clothes! Furthermore, many folk are allergic to lilies (myself included): so if one is uncertain, do not give to someone! Nonetheless, per Wikipedia, in 2017 lilies were voted the UK’s second favourite blooms.
