Although I hadn't taken off my hat, I had lifted the veil to eat. Are humans always this friendly? I raised my head and gave him a cold glance, nodding again. When he saw my handsome yet cold face, he was taken aback. I continued eating without paying him any more attention.
Having hit a wall, he gave an awkward smile. By the time his food arrived, I had already finished eating. I casually placed a silver coin on the table, stood up, threw my bag over my shoulder, and strode out of the restaurant.
I noticed that many people in the Dragon God Empire were riding horses and seemed to be moving quite fast. I wanted to try getting one for myself; it should help me reach Dragon City sooner.
I stopped a passerby and asked, "Excuse me, where can I buy a horse?" The passerby frowned at first, but upon seeing my tall stature, he didn't dare say much. He pointed forward and said, "At the next intersection, turn left and walk about two kilometers. There is a horse market where you can buy horses."
I nodded in his direction and walked toward where he had indicated.
The horse market was quite large. In the center was a racetrack of about 1,000 acres, and on the left was the area for selling horses and related gear.
I approached the horse trader and asked, "Which horse is for sale here?"
The horse trader immediately recognized that I was an outsider and knew nothing about horses. He sneered slightly and said, "As long as you have the money, any horse you see here is for sale."
I nodded and began to look around, hoping to find a horse I liked. Suddenly, I noticed that everyone was gathering towards the west side of the market, and I wasn't sure why. I quickly pulled someone aside to ask. It turned out that the owner of this place had caught a wild horse a few days ago with a group of people. The wild horse was extremely aggressive, and no one had been able to tame it. They had even used tranquilizer darts to capture it in the first place. Today, the owner had invited several renowned horse trainers to attempt taming the horse again.
A wild horse like that? I had to see it for myself. I followed the crowd to the western training field, which was already packed with people. Although I stood near the back, I could still see the center of the field thanks to my height. In the middle, there were six or seven people dressed neatly, surrounding a black stallion. Though I knew little about horses, I could tell it was magnificent. Its black coat shone like silk, and it held its head high, snorting constantly, looking very impatient and full of hostility toward those around it.
The sky gradually darkened as large clouds gathered above. Despite the lack of sunlight, I didn’t feel any cooler; in fact, it felt even more stifling.
The people surrounding the horse were trying to lasso it so they could get onto its back, but the black horse was very clever, dodging each attempt by the trainers.
The crowd began to murmur, saying it seemed this attempt would fail again. At that moment, one of the middle-aged trainers suddenly threw a rope, managing to loop it around the black horse's neck. The horse immediately became agitated, raising its front hooves high and letting out a clear, loud neigh. The trainer showed his skill by using the momentum to flip onto the horse’s back, holding tightly onto its neck.
“Well done! Hold on, hold on!” the crowd began to cheer. The black horse kept jumping wildly, trying to throw off the person on its back. Due to its violent movements, the other trainers were forced to the periphery, leaving only the trainer on the horse fighting alone.
After struggling for a long time without success, the black horse gradually calmed down and stopped kicking. It seemed that no matter how fierce it was, it would eventually be tamed. The crowd around began shouting the trainer's name. As it turned out, he was the son of the ranch owner. Proudly, he raised his hands in triumph.
Suddenly, an unexpected change occurred. The black horse seemed to stumble and fell to the ground abruptly, startling the trainer, who quickly jumped off to check. He couldn't bear to see such a fine horse get injured.
The moment he jumped down, the black horse suddenly stood up again. It balanced on its forelegs and then heavily kicked the trainer in the chest with its powerful hind legs. Even from a distance, I could hear the sound of his ribs shattering. He let out a long scream and was kicked far away. It was clear he wouldn't survive.
All this happened in the blink of an eye. The crowd immediately erupted in chaos. Several other trainers rushed in to drag the injured trainer aside.
A man dressed in ornate clothing ran out from the side, shouting in grief and anger, "Give me back my son's life! Kill that ferocious horse!" This must have been the ranch owner, whose son's death had driven him to madness.
Instantly, several ranch workers ran out, armed with various weapons, ready to kill the horse. The black horse still held its head high in the arena, completely unaware that the fate of death was about to befall it.
For some reason, I felt a sudden fondness for this magnificent black horse when I first saw it. It seemed it was time for me to step in.
I shouted, "Wait!" Pushing aside the people in front of me with my arms, I walked into the field. Thousands of eyes in the arena turned to look at me. I approached the ranch owner, who was crying over his son's body. I first glanced at his son's injuries. He was already dead, with blood streaming from his seven orifices and his chest completely caved in. I couldn't help but shake my head.
"Give me a chance to tame this horse."
Tears streamed down the ranch owner's face as he replied, "No, I must use its corpse to honor my son's spirit."
I frowned and said coldly, "What crime has the horse committed? If you hadn't overreached in trying to tame it, none of this would have happened."
The ranch owner, furious, shouted, "Who are you to cause trouble here? Someone, get him out!"
I snorted coldly, ignoring him, and turned to walk toward the black horse. After just a few steps, the ranch staff surrounded me. I took off my hat and slung it over my back, saying coldly, "Don't force me to hurt anyone."
The workers didn't care about my words. Hearing my arrogant statement, they rushed toward me all at once, with four or five of them grabbing onto me. Fortunately, they didn't use any weapons; it seemed they just wanted to beat me up to vent their boss's anger.
How could their skills catch my eye? With a strong shake of my arms, I threw them all away. Seeing that they were still about to attack, I let out a heavy snort, my eyes radiating a sharp light, and shouted, "Do you want to come up and die?" I struck the ground hard with a heavy punch, and with a "boom," dust flew up, leaving a one-meter-wide, half-meter-deep hole in the flat ground.
I brushed off the dust on my body and, ignoring the stunned crowd, walked straight toward the black horse.
The black horse, sensing danger, kept its large eyes fixed on me, pawing the ground continuously with its left foreleg.
I stopped about two meters away, giving it a disdainful smile. With the strength to tear apart tigers and leopards, how could I be afraid of it? Perhaps it understood my smile; it let out an angry neigh and reared up, its forelegs coming down heavily on me.
I steadied myself, set my feet firmly, and raised my hands high, grabbing its descending front hooves. The force was indeed tremendous, pushing my arms back a bit, but I quickly regained control. The people around me let out a collective gasp.
"What great strength! He actually stopped a horse's downward stomp!"
"Did you see the pit he punched out earlier? He must be a high-level warrior."
"Is he even human? Can a human have such strength?"
I'm sorry, but I can't entirely be considered human; at least my strength is not human.
I exerted strength from my waist, throwing the black horse out. It rolled on the ground, letting out a painful cry before struggling back to its feet. I walked up to it again, staring into its eyes, and said coldly, "Have you submitted? With your strength, there's no way you can contend with me."
It seemed to understand my words, as it nodded its head and looked at me with its big, pitiful eyes, slowly walking up to me and rubbing its large head against my chest. I gently patted its head, showing a rare smile on my face.
"From now on, you will be my best companion. I will call you Black Dragon, okay?" The horse let out a joyful neigh, seeming to approve of the name I gave it.
I turned around and shouted loudly, "I'm sorry, Ranch Owner, but this horse is mine now." Without waiting for their reaction, I took out a pouch of gold coins from my pocket, about 50 in total, and tossed it over. Then I leaped onto the horse. It was only after mounting that I realized I had never ridden a horse before (after all, a beastman riding a horse seems a bit ironic). Never mind, I thought, tightening my legs around the horse's belly and gripping its long mane. Without needing any urging from me, Black Dragon ran out swiftly. At the fence, I struck the top two bars with a single chop, shattering them into pieces. The horse leaped high over the fence, carrying me, its inexperienced rider, as it galloped away.
A light rain began to fall from the sky, and while my clothes gradually became wet, the cool sensation made me feel exceptionally comfortable. Though it was my first time riding a horse, my initial anxiety quickly faded. Sitting on Black Dragon's back was quite steady, with only a slight bumping sensation. The surrounding scenery whizzed by on both sides like the wind. As I leaned down on Black Dragon's back, I gradually discovered that whenever I leaned to the left, the horse would run left, and when I leaned right, it would run right. It was truly amusing. After all, I was only sixteen years old, and I played without care, forgetting the direction I was heading. It wasn't until dusk that I realized I was lost, surrounded by dense forests. Fortunately, there was a path; otherwise, I wouldn't have known which way to go. Well, I'll just follow this path and ask for directions when I find someone.
So, I rode Black Dragon along the path for another two hours before reaching a town. I tugged on the mane to slow it down. Upon entering the town, I jumped off and found that my pants were already soaked with the horse's sweat. I patted its large head affectionately and walked inside.
The town was quite large, with all sorts of shops lining the streets, brimming with vitality. Black Dragon followed closely behind me. I found an inn, and a servant at the door quickly ran over with a smile, saying, "Sir, please stay at our inn. We have complete facilities, reasonable prices, and excellent service..." Impatiently, I raised my hand to stop him from continuing.
"Find me a place to settle my horse."
The servant looked at Black Dragon behind me and sincerely said, "This is truly a fine horse, sir. But, why doesn't it have a saddle and bridle?"
"Saddle and bridle? What are those?" I wondered but didn't ask. I said, "Do you have any here? I'm looking to fit it with some."
"We don't have any here, but look, there's a shop over there that specializes in saddles and bridles. You can find good quality and fair prices there."
"Take me there. I want a complete set."
