KIYOMI
Christmas is always my favorite time of the year. People are always so happy and the whole mood is just so happy. It’s a time of giving and spending time with family. Well at least half of my family. My parents are not the nurturing type, especially with my sister. They don't like her belief system or her opinions about life. They disagree with her about lots of other things too. I have it easy. I wish it was me that they complained about though. Luna already has her own shit to deal with. She shoudn’t have to suffer. But the worst part is half of the time they are not even at the house. But when they are, they are always complaining about her. Luna had to basically become my third parent.
“Do you want to start with the cookies?” I ask Luna.
“Sure,” she says. “We can watch a movie while they bake.”
“Yay!!”
We walk to the kitchen and take the necessary ingredients out of the fridge and pantry. After, we lay them all out and start splitting the ingredients into piles. I decide to make the icing while Luna does the cookie dough. I take some of the sugar and measure it out in the stand mixer along with the other ingredients as it mixes.
“Did you listen to the playlist I sent you a few days ago?” asks Luna while she is kneading the cookie dough.
“Is it all K-pop?” I ask. Luna is a big fan of K-pop. It's the only type of music she really listens to. I am not too big on it. Some of the kpop songs she listens to are okay but the other ones are kinda annoying. She loves this group called Ace-One.
“Yeah,” She says.
“Maybe I’ll listen to it.” I say.
She splits the dough with me so we can both make the cookie shapes. I atart rolling out the dough into hearts to bake while Luna makes Christmas trees. After we make the shapes, we lay them out on a baking tray so we can put them in the oven once it finishes pre-heating.
“Do you want to watch Home Alone or The Grinch?” Luna asks me as I put the cookies into the oven.
“Home Alone, we havent watched that one in a while,” I reply.
She silently starts the movie and then sets the remote down on the little sitting table we have infront of our couch. I quietly go to sit next to her as the movie starts. We take out the cookies after Kevin’s mom realises he’s not there and then take the icing out so we can ice them while we watch. After the movie is over we eat lunch. Our parents are still not home from work so that means that we will have to take care of ourselves for the remainder of the day. We watch a few more movies and then eat our dinner. I can tell Luna wants to spend Christmas Eve with our parents like we used to but it's just not possible because they are “always busy”. Christmas is supposed to be a time for family, just not for us.
