"Alright, gunya. Our businness is done, you can leave."
"Didn't you forget to pay?"
"No, I didn't forget. You may leave."
Enicya was getting so used to Kaede's behaviour the sudden return to the norm felt disheartening. "Why are you refusing to pay me?"
The old woman leaned back on her oversized ebony chair and reveld in her power: "Because you can't do anything about it. I've been doing this job for long enough to know these pills are either stolen or you found them somewhere by chance. You don't have a master, I don't need to establish a fair trading partnership with you, and even if you complain nobody will take you seriously, so all you're going to get from me is an empty thanks."
Enicya felt the blood rushing towards her face, in a sudden surge of rage she dissociated for a moment. And in that moment she lost control of the Three Shaded Flame. The pain of her meridian getting eroded once again immediately snapped her back to reality and she quickly regained control over the flame, however enough damage to line the corner of her mouth with a trail of blood was already done.
The girl wiped the blood off with her palm, and examined the stain. Perhaps she could still turn the exchange in her favour, hopefully.
The old woman raised her gaze from the ledger she was working on and saw Enicya snacking on even more mid grade pills than she previously wanted to sell. She was eating those pills like a kid would have eaten chocolate coated marna nuts.
"What are you doing?"
"Well, since I already have to tell my master you refused to pay for the first batch of pills, might as well tell him you refused to pay for all of them, and eat the rest myself."
The old woman tried her best to make Nicya stop eating the pills while figuring a way out, but it was a pretty solid checkmate. She threatened violence, but it quickly became clear it was an even riskier gamble than doing nothing; she tried bargaining the price, offered to pay only for the pills she received; she demanded to be treated with respect for her seniority. By the time she realized the least amount of trouble she could face was to mark a net loss for the Chamber of Commerce Nicya had already nibbled up a whole sachet of Blood Perfecting Pills. It was a flawless win.
