Kaede wasn't slacking at all, but, just like Garnlao observed, restoring his meridians was such a painstakingly tedious process most people wouldn't even consider it.
"I'm off to take a quest, do you need anything from Marna Valley?" asked Enicya.
"Nothing for now, once you reach the Golden Bone Stage we'll talk about taking down a Fire Element Qilin or something."
"Ok brother, I'm off!"
Disappointingly for her, the only hunting quest on the public bulletin was for two fresh Soft Bone Bunny ears.
Tracking down the bunnies meant roaming the valley until one showed up. It wasn't a matter of luck, but rather of time. "Might as well stay still and wait for one to get closer", thought Nicya. Thus she sat on a flat rock and began cultivating, refining her hearing. She visualized her perception as a sphere, which she tried expanding focusing outwards.
A few hours later her sense barely increased at all. As she opened her eyes a Soft Bone Bunny was staring at her, just a few meters away from where she could have perceived it through hearing. A hectic chase ensued. Each step was so impetuous her feet would find enough purchase only by sinking deep in the ground, yet she couldn't catch the bunny because it wasn't just fast. At the right time it knew where to hit to stagger her, and then hit again to deal some damage until it was time to evade her once more. It was truly embarrassing.
The bunny tripped her leg yet again, but this time Enicya didn't care to retain balance through her lower limbs. Falling onwards she willingly planted her face on the ground while her arms blindly intercepted the beast with a scissors strike, killing it on the spot. She named that technique the please never again.
All her plans to chase something stronger after what she thought would be a warm up crumbled at the acceptance that even a Soft Bone Bunny could crush her ribs, injure her tendons, smash her metacarpus with a kick, and force her to resort to the forbidden please never again. At least nobody saw that.
She was so exhausted she would have liked to sit down on the spot and cultivate for a few hours, but the dead monster she was carrying would soon become a smelly beacon for predators. Unfortunately, being just about to leave was a too perfect moment to have two sets of light steps approaching her from opposite directions.
"Oh? If it isn't Nisa."
"Nicya." corrected him the other person.
The girl wiped some dirt off her face and confirmed by sight what her ears were telling her. "Hedan and Pagi... Why are you guys here?" She asked her previous companions.
"Well, you know... We're lucky enough to have had a second chance." Said Hedan shaking the Moonar. It was a threat.
"Where did you find it?"
"Oh, we managed to catch a few rumors about it before other people did, and on our way back to Vosphel we thought of making a slight detour here to try our luck once more."
"They let you in?"
"Nah, we got in the same as the other time, except today we already baked the adventurer." Already, meant that last time their plan was to kill her, they just didn't get the chance.
"So you're here to kill me."
"Oh, not necessarily: if you just obey we might spare you."
