i just realised how messed up this society is as i was drawing this
this is where the story takes its turn, and i found this really hard to present - i hope it works? i don't want to spoonfeed worldbuilding but i hope it explains /just enough/??

So are the bindings just for a year? I.E. She'll be in an arranged marriage for one year, and then is available for a new binding next year?
Also, who picks the partners?
