It had been four days since the meeting with the teachers. At this point, all of the staff and students of Elysium had been gone through multiple drug tests in order to see if they had any trace of the drug in their system.
Not counting the already existing population of affected students, about a quarter of the school’s staff and students had been affected. They were put in lockdown where the school’s medical team is trying every possible way to get the influence of the drug out of them.
William was one of the lucky ones who wasn’t under the influence of angel eyes.
He was currently sitting in his classroom staring into the ticking hands of his pocket watch.
"Now why isn’t everyone affected? If they wanted to get rid of us all, then why aren’t we all under the drugs influence yet?" William pondered.
"Is it that only a portion of our food was drugged? But what part is it, and why not just drug it all?"
"It can’t be the water, for then again, we all would be drugged? And if it's like James said and it's an upgraded version of metamorphosis, then it can’t really fade out naturally." William’s thoughts echoed in his head.
"And why only now start with these heavy doses of the drug? That started months before I started, and they couldn’t have predicted I would work here. So why didn’t they start sooner?" William thought.
However, no matter how much he continued to think, he couldn’t wrap his mind around a possible answer. There where so many ways they could have already drugged the school, but yet they hadn't.
He was so wrapped up in his thought that he didn’t even notice that his students had started to enter.
"Amellia, I still can’t believe you were prepared to kill a man who just stood guard." Hector's voice echoed in the empty hall.
"She kinda gets like that sometimes. You'll get used to it." Jimmy responded.
"That is in no way reassuring." Hector replied.
"You should have seen her when we were younger. When she first discovered her personal ability." Jimmy said.
An audible groan was heard from Amellia as Jimmy started to bring up their past.
"She used to walk around being like: I am the queen of darkness! Your godly ruler!" Jimmy said, trying to mimic Amelia's voice, causing the group of friends to laugh.
"Oh god stop..." Amelia groaned in embarrassment of her past self.
"Oh no Jimmy! You have awakened the wrath of our supreme queen of Darkness." Ophelia teased.
Amelia groaned louder and louder in embarrassment.
"Better not speak to loud Ophelia. Maybe the queen of darkness herself will command you to kiss her boots if you keep going." Nadia joined in.
As the group's laughter echoed in the classroom, William realized he yet hadn’t erased the notes from his history lesson the hour before. So, while William hurriedly tried to brush off the chalk from the board, the students of class 45 sat down.
It felt weird being such a small group. Class 45 was now consisting of only Nadia, Hector, Jimmy, Amelia, Ophelia, and Nicholas. The six sat down and looked at their teacher who was desperately flicking through some textbook, searching for what to teach.
"One hell of a teacher we got. The man doesn’t even know what we are supposed to learn." Jimmy pointed out.
"Yeah, but I don’t really expect much for someone with such a colorful history to know how to teach." Hector said.
"Anyone one of you gotten close to an answer on his title yet?" Ophelia asked.
"No..." the group sighed collectively.
"Anything on his past?" Ophelia asked.
Yet again, she was met with a collective no.
In their sigh of disappointment, Nicholas, who sat a few seats away from the five, slowly moved closer to them.
"I-I might have something." he joined in, not really sure how to talk to his only classmates.
"You do?" Amelia asked, also a bit confused on how to approach their classmate, Mr popular himself.
"The man from the test. He is from The hand, one of the five crowns." Nicholas told them.
"And since they were talking like they once knew each other, maybe he has had some connection to one of the crowns?" Nicholas proposed.
From an outside perspective, one could see how the gears in the group’s heads started to turn.
"Then, that means he might be a big shot criminal or something." Jimmy exclaimed in glee.
"If he has such connections, then I wonder to whom?" Amelia wondered.
"Are you not seeing how bad this is? We have possibly a gang member as a teacher!" Hector panicked.
However, his panic was quickly shoved under the rug as they continued to theories who their teacher could be. The only one seemingly registering his concern was Nadia, who simply gave him a pat on the back.
"Maybe he was once part of The hand and left. Maybe that suit guy and William where coworkers?" Nicholas said.
"No, William doesn’t really seem like someone who alliance with the hand." Jimmy said.
"Maybe he is connected to Midas?" Jimmy proposed.
"I hope it isn’t something like Beholder. God, that would be lame." Amelia joined in.
"I don’t think it's Carnival either." Nadia said.
Amelia, Ophelia, and Jimmy gave an approving nod to Nadia's statement. Leaving Nicholas and Hector questioning what's so special with Carnival.
"You don’t think it's Wolfgang, right?" Ophelia asked.
The group then turned to William, a concerned look in their eyes.
"I-I don’t think so. He doesn’t really seem like the Robin Hood type." Nicholas said, a bit concerned.
"But it's always a possibility." Ophelia added.
After a moment of speculative silence, William spoke.
"Okay class, I have two things to announce. First, we have an additional student joining the 45. Second, we have been given a job by Daniel to investigate more into the angel eyes situation."
The group looked at him a bit confused.
"A new student? I thought that the whole test we did was to decide who was perfect for the class." Ophelia asked.
"Yeah, we did all of that, and then some random just joins out of nowhere. That’s not fair!" Jimmy argues.
William gives him a stern look.
"I know it may seem unfair, but this class is built up with those who are most against the unfairness of the ISC and the world they made." William said.
"All who was first assigned to this class all had some dirt on their past that caused them to be seen as something that the ISC is against." he continued.
The six looked at each other a bit confused.
"The school, and thus I, have files with details on your past. Which means I know all of what every single one of you has done. The dirty past you so run from or accept." William said.
Now the students seemed a bit more weary. Some, like Jimmy and Ophelia, didn’t seem to care. Whilst others like Nadia and Nicholas got a bit concerned, and some like Hector got completely mortified.
"I know how some of you have heavy connections to the underworld." he said, glancing towards Ophelia, Jimmy, and Amelia.
"Some have helped cover up great scandals or even helped to ruin the reputations of others." he said, looking at Nadia and Nicholas.
"Some of you even have blood on your hands."
Hector seemed to tense up slightly as he said this.
"And I believe your new classmate has all the right to go against the ISC."
William quickly glances at the door to the classroom, seeing a figure quietly peeking in.
It seemed to know what he wanted to say and gave him a confirming nod.
"In what I read of her file it says that since the age of five she was kidnapped by the ISC and was experimented on. Or maybe it would be more accurate to say she was tortured for her personal ability." William explained.
"A child born with an abnormal high amplitude and a personal ability that constantly mutates and makes more abilities." he continued.
The group was shocked.
"Abigail, would you please step in." William said.
The door to the room slowly creaked open as a taller girl with long black hair walked through the door. She radiated a heavy pressure that caused the people in the room to tense up. With each step she took, the pressure grew. Until it started to fade away when she sat down.
"Well, I see now why she asked for the heavy-duty doors to her chambers." William thought.
"According to her file, she had a hard time controlling this aura before. Apparently, it could cause people to faint or have the walls crack." he remembered.
"N-now why don’t you all take a minute or two to get to know each other." William said as he almost fell back into his chair. Exhausted from Abigail’s aura.
The girl sat down next to Hector and nervously stretched out her hand.
"A-abigail Ward." she introduced herself, seemingly a bit cautious.
However, Hector gladly shook her hand.
"Hector Ramos." he said carefully shaking her hand.
Abigail introduced herself to her new classmates and quickly got to know them. They told her a bit about themselves and how they had just been through their unusual test.
However, to their surprise Abigail didn’t seem to surprised to hear this.
"Well, from what I know of him, it's not so surprising." she said.
"What do you mean?" Jimmy asked.
"Well, using one of my abilities, I could temporarily read what his body had been through from all his life. So, I could tell that he had an unusual way of doing stuff. He seems a bit intense." Abigail tried to explain.
"So, what did you read his mind?" Ophelia asked.
"No, I read his body's past actions. I can’t look into someone’s mind. But I am a bit curious of who he is to have lived such an intense life." Abigail said.
Hearing this, Nicholas got an idea.
"Hey Amelia, your personal ability can make people do as you say, right?" he asked.
"To a degree, yes." she responded.
"Then why don’t you just command him to say something?" Nicholas proposed.
Amelia looked at him, all with the same expression of realization. This realization quickly turns to embarrassment as she realized she could have done this earlier.
"How did I not think of that?" Amelia exclaims.
"Think of what?" William jumps in as he had heard Amelia's cry of realization.
The group quickly turns to each other and gives Amelia an affirmative nod.
"Of this!" Amelia shouts out, jumping up from her seat and pointing towards William.
"[The eyes of her majesty]" Amelia exclaimed, activating her personal ability.
The moment Amelia's now, yellow-hued eyes met with William, she could see an expression of fear before she uttered her command.
"William Kuger, tell me who you ar-!" Amelia suddenly stops.
Her vision gets blurry and the background fades as all that is left is the form of William. Except his face was seemingly gone. It was replaced by what looked like a mirror. Then suddenly behind him, a giant yellow eye opened looking down at her.
The eye stared into her, into her mind and soul. She fell to her knees in fear as all she knew felt like her entire being was slowly being drained from her. She screamed but nothing came out, she tried to look away, but she couldn't. She heard what sounded like whispers echoing right at the edge of her ear. But she couldn’t concentrate as she felt like more of her mind was being drained.
Suddenly, she was back. William stood holding onto her, shaking her as if she wasn’t awake. Talking to her.
"Amellia! Kid, are you okay? Can you hear me?" Willimas voice echoed in her head.
When she finally realized the eye was gone and she was back, she spoke.
"Y-yes..." her voice trembled.
"Good now do you remember your name?" William asked.
"What?" she asked confused; her body was weak, like if she had woken up from an intense night out.
"Your name? What’s your name?" William insisted, panic overflowing in his voice.
"Amelia. Amelia Swanson." she told him.
"What are you-" Amelia got cut off again.
"Do you remember your parents? The past days? Do you remember who you are?" William asked, still panicked.
"Y-yes. Professor, what’s wrong?" she asked, now starting to get concerned for William.
However, William didn’t listen. He simply let out a sigh of relief and fell back to the seat behind him.
"Looks like nothing big was lost." he mumbled under his breath.
Amelia turned to the rest of the group, which just stared at her, looking almost as worried as William.
"What?" she asked.
"You fell to your knees and started to scream. And then you just got silent and blank. It was pretty horrifying to see." Nadia explained.
Amelia then finally realized that her hand was cramping, and she then saw that Jimmy now stood beside her holding onto her hand. He had that same look of worry he had when they were kids being scolded by adults.
"Still a crybaby, huh?" Amelia thought about looking at her childhood friend.
"As soon as you fell, William teleported over to you and started trying to wake you up. I... I thought..." Jimmy told her, looking away as if to hide his worried eyes.
She gave him a small pat on his shoulder as if she had just been through one of the most terrifying moments of her life.
She then turned to William.
"What the hell was that... that..." she started but couldn’t continue. She almost threw up just thinking of what she had seen.
Something with it just filled her with absolute terror.
However, William just looked away.
"A sort of... defense mechanism." he mumbled.
William then turned to the rest of the group.
"Please for the foreseeable future that we are together here as a class. Leave my mind alone. I can’t guarantee that I could help you if you do. That I was able to wake Amelia up with no greater side effect was pure luck." he told them.
The class was silent. Not sure what to say or how to act. They weren’t even sure of what had happened. Yet William slowly walked back down to his desk. And grabbed his water bottle that stood by his notes.
He brought it up to Amelia, where Jimmy quickly caught it and gave it to Amelia. He was now on edge about being around their teacher.
William gave her a moment to catch her breath and rehydrate herself before he started speaking.
"Now. Let’s get into the plans for our first class trip."
