As he clicked on the next slide, an image flashed on the screen. It was a man who appeared to be of Italian-American descent with light-colored hair and fair skin. His emerald eyes stood out against his pale complexion. It was the type of face you would remember if you saw it.
"This is the man we're after, Izaya Fanucci, also known as the white rabbit," the chief announced.
"He's as sneaky as he is dangerous. His connections are all over the world, making him almost untouchable by law enforcement. And anyone who threatens his empire is wiped from the face of the earth. His loyal followers do all the dirty work while he rules from behind the shadows." The chief screwed up his nose and clicked his tongue in disgust.
Everyone in the room started whispering to each other. It became obvious what we were doing in that meeting. The chief was organizing another operation since the first one had failed.
The question that was floating around everyone's heads: Who was he going to pick, and why were there six of us? The only question in my head at that point was: Why am I here?
We all waited eagerly in silence for the chief to announce who would work on the case. My heart began to pound, and the moisture in my mouth had vanished.
The chief stood there with a serious look. "This will be the largest operation we have seen in years. All of you will be deployed as undercover agents in different locations with the same objective."
My eyes widened, my ears started to ring, and my breathing became heavy.
Did he say all of us?
