"Okay, since the last person born in your family is you, you should be at the back of the book." Said Jack as he paced around.
"Jack, I don't think I'm ready for this.
What if we don't find anything?" I asked.
"Then we'll keep looking." Jack smiled.
"But what if we do find something?
What if we regret seeing it?" I asked.
"We will be fine and we will continue until we have all of the answers.
Aisha, remember, we are doing this for whomever 'Alina' is.
We will help her rest easily." Jack replied.
"Yeah, you are right.
Okay, I'm ready." I fairly smiled.
The library suddenly made a drastic change in temperature.
"Jack, it's cold in here." I shivered as my body turned cold and goosebumps formed on my arms. The room started shaking, not rapidly, but trembling.
The book opened to a page by itself.
"It's a birth record."
I whispered.
"Alina... Rosaline... Savelli...
Date of Birth: 12/11/1871...
Time of Birth: 12:00 am." Jack read.
"Wait, Aisha..." Jack paused for a moment.
"Isn't that close to your birthday?" Jack asked.
"Yeah, I was born December 10th at 11:55 pm..." I replied nonchalantly.
"Wait, Aisha... We have a problem..." Jack mumbled.
"What?" I asked.
"There's no date, time or reason of death for Alina...
That means... She either isn't dead...
Or someone wanted her erased from this world...
Permanently..." Jack whispered.
"Jack, I can't do this anymore." I sighed.
My eyes and my vision became blurry as my whole world began spinning.
Spiraling in every direction.
No matter what I did, no matter how hard I tried, the spinning wouldn't stop.
There was a ringing in my ears, similar to the one that you would hear after a bomb goes off.
Because that's what happened, a bomb that has been ticking for so many years waiting to explode at the right moment, finally went off.
I brought my hands up and cupped my ears.
Many thoughts ran through my mind.
Everything, everyone, all that I have ever known, it was all a lie.
Was it real?
Was I real?
Was any of this real?
Am I even who I'm told I am?
I finally turned to Jack, I could feel as the tears that I have been holding back for so long had finally broken free from my control and made their way out, spewing to the surface, flowing like a river.
"Jack, how can someone have a date of birth, but no date of death?!
Jack, I went in too deep!
I can't do this!" I cried.
Within my breakdown I felt as Jack wrapped his arms around my shoulders.
"Aisha, I know you can't do it.
But we can do it.
We can solve this together and I'll be here every step of the way to help you.
Whether it all be for nothing,
Whether it all be a lie,
We can do this together.
We rise together, we fall together.
We succeed together, we fail together.
I am here for you. I made a promise to Ashley that I would protect you and be here for you." Jack consoled.
"Jack, that's not just it.
I am getting worse.
I keep having blackouts.
Jack, what if someone is poisoning me?
What if someone wants me dead?
What if Alina wants me dead because I'm alive and she's dead?" I asked as I felt my heartbeat quickening and my throat ever so slowly closing in panic.
"Aisha, honey, you are overthinking everything.
You will get better soon. I know you will."
Jack tightly hugged me once again before I finally closed my eyes.
Jack's Point Of View
I know that what I am saying cannot be guaranteed.
I knew that there is a very slim chance that Aisha will get better.
She lives with these voices in her head.
The writing is real, but I'm not sure that everything else is.
All I can do is support her and believe her.
But there is always one thought that always gets to me, and that one thought is the thought that a thirteen year old girl has to suffer in silence by herself pains me.
He barely has anything to do with her, and her mother, well, she is gone.
Both of them have suffered so much.
The amount of times I have seen this little girl suffer and break, alone by herself, in silence is sickening.
Instead of dealing with the situation and getting her the help that she needs, he lets her suffer.
And all for what?
Revenge? Dignity?
She barely remembers any of it.
The screaming.
The crying.
If only I could save her.
If only I could take her away.
Away from the voices.
Away from herself.
And away from whatever is in this house.
Third Person's Point Of View
Flashback: 8 Years Ago...
The Basement of the Savelli Estate:
"PLEASE!
PAPA!
MAMA!
I AM NOT SICK ANYMORE!
PLEASE!
L-let me out!
Please...
It's dark in here... Please... I promise that I'm not sick anymore... Please, I promise that I will be a good girl...
Please, I'm scared..."
A voice cried from the other side of the door.
"Dad, why are you doing this to Aisha?!
Please, leave her alone! She's not sick!" Jack cried.
"Jack! Please, help me!" Aisha cried.
"How is she doing, Doc?" Bill asked from the other side of the door.
"She's not fighting and crying much anymore." James said, looking at his clipboard.
"How is my wife's treatment?" Bill asked.
"She believes that the thing is still here.
She refused to take the medication last week and we thought that she got over it and took them.....
She didn't.
She stored them, hid them, and tried taking them all at once and overdosing.
Her body is not reacting well to the therapy either." James rubbed his eyes.
"Then find something else then!" Bill yelled, grabbing James by his tie.
"Bill, I am trying! We haven't done enough research yet!" James replied.
"Let go of my dad! Leave Aisha alone, please!" Jack cried.
"You are a doctor! Hurry up and do your damn job!
I don't care what you have to do, just fix my wife, goddammit!
You said you were confident in the treatment this time!
And so help me god, if you make it worse, I will kill you and your entire family, Estridsen!" Bill threatened.
"Father, why are you doing this to Aisha?!" Jack cried as he tugged on his father's sleeve.
"Jack, we need to leave. Let's go." James sighed.
"No! I'm not leaving until you let Aisha out! Please, let her out!" Jack screamed in protest.
James grabbed Jack by his arm, quickly pulling the child up the stairs.
"I hate you! Do you have no sense of shame? Do you have no sense of guilt or remorse?!" Jack screamed.
"Jack... I am just trying to help her." James let out a heavy sigh.
"You're just trying to help her?!
You just locked a child into a dark room!
You are a doctor!
You are supposed to help people not hurt people!" Jack yelled.
James continued pulling Jack through the hall, towards the main entrance door.
"Aisha isn't sick!
If you would open your eyes, you would see the real problem! If you would open your eyes, you would see the person who is actually the sick one.
Her father is the one who is sick!
"And you!...." Jack paused.
"You are also sick for helping him!
What would my mother think of this?!
What would your 'wife' think about this?!" Jack cried.
James pushed the main door open to the outside world as most of the pressure from the god forbidden house was released from his mind.
"Jackson Daniel Estridsen! Don't you go too far!" James warned.
James stopped moving in his tracks, and turned around. His tall figure staggered over the child. Within seconds, a slap could be heard that echoed through the forest.
Everything stopped.
The crows stopped cawing.
The wind stopped howling.
The crickets stopped chirping
It was completely silent.
