No Future: Fate

I Hate Change P.3

I Hate Change P.3

Sep 23, 2024

Andrew is outside on the lawn of the apartment, pacing back and forth while ranting about his unbelievable situation. “I can’t believe this is happening to me! What did I do to deserve this crap?!”

A girl with long blonde hair and large glasses spots him while making her way out of the building. Recognizing and calling out to him. “Oh, hey Andrew!!”

Andrew lets out a frustrated groan. “Why does no one call me by my artist name?! It’s SIN!!!” he turns around to face her, pausing for a moment when he doesn’t recognize her right away. He stares for a moment trying to place her, she did know his name after all, so that meant that he should probably know hers in return. Finally it comes to him, she from the drama club he had been introduced to today during lunch. “Oh hey, it’s one of you guys… Juliet right?”

She lets out a shy laugh over being called that name outside of the club. “Only during club meet ups! Outside of the ring I am known as Hannah.”

“I see…” He seems surprised to run into her at his home of all places. “What are you doing here?”

Hannah is shocked by the question. “What? Are you serious? I live right in the same apartment complex as you! Don’t tell me you never noticed!”

Andrew glances around, not sure how to respond to this accusation. “Oh… sorry… you’re kind of not the type that stands out… so I guess I never really noticed until now.”

Hannah looks hurt by the comment as she timidly mumbles her response. “Oh… is that so… well… I recognized you right away… you stand out better than me I guess…” Despite how awkward things had quickly gotten she tries to push he flustered feelings down and continue the conversation. “So where are you headed?!”

Andrew seems unsure how to answer the question, he really hadn’t come out here intending to go anywhere in particular, he had just wanted to get away from the two time gods that had invaded his privacy and were living in his room, though that was not exactly something he could casually explain. “I dunno nowhere really… just away from home I guess? Home is just driving me crazy today.”

Hannah enthusiastically tries giving him a helpful suggestion, inviting him to come along with her. “Why don’t you come with me then? I was just heading out to drop off some books at the library. We could go together and look through the literature and play scripts they have there! You’re in the drama club right so-”

Andrew cuts her off her rambling before she could go further with it. “Yeah, I actually don’t like plays and acting, and that sounds really friggen boring-”

Era’s voice interrupts the conversation. “Hey, I apologize about that fornication comment that completely went over my partners head!”

Andrew places his hands against Hannah’s back and precedes to quickly power walk away from Era before Hannah can hear anymore of what he was saying. “I changed my mind, let’s go to the library.” He yells back at Era. “Don’t friggen follow me!”

Era watches him leave. “That’s not very ideal for me!” Andrew does not slow down, Era shrugging his shoulders. “I guess I’ll follow at a distance.”

Hannah walks alongside Andrew’s quick pace as he attempted to distance himself from the appartement building they lived in, she looking him over not sure of what to say to him. She didn’t really now him and didn’t have much experience talking to him. Not to mention his behaviour had been rude as well, intolerable, as if he had had a bad day, and her suggestion to join her at the library didn’t seem to make him very excited at all.

Hannah sighs mumbling to herself, she had thought that the two of them would be able to get along since he has shown up at the drama club at school of all places, but that didn’t seem like it was going to be the case. “I was hoping that I happened to have something in common with you…”

Andrew slows down his walk speed as he looks to her. “What?”

“Never mind….” She recalls what Andrew had said, when he expressed having no interest in acting or writing. “So… if you don’t like acting, why did you join the drama club?”

“My student councillor said that it might help me in my goal to become a singer.”

Hannah perks up, this promising information. “Oh! You want to be a singer! That’s really great then! That means that we do kind of have something in common!”

He looks to her, it a little hard for Andrew to believe that the two of them would share common interests. “What do you mean?”

Hannah begins to explain. “We’re both artists! I mean different kinds of artists, I want to be a play write, and you want to be a singer! It’s great! We have something to talk about now!”

“I guess…?”

Hannah curiously being to pry. “So do you have any songs written yet?”

Andrew grins, finally responding positively to Hannah’s prodding to start a conversation with him as he assures her that he did. “Of course I do! I’m not gonna be one of those weak singers that doesn’t know how to write their own lyrics!”

“You should share them with me sometime!”

For a split second an embarrassed look fills Andrew’s face, he quickly shaking it off to resume acting cool during this conversation. “I don’t think so, my lyrics are top secret to everyone but a very select few!”

The two continue their conversation with one another, unaware of the figure that was watching the two of them from a distance. A young girl in a white dress with hair tied up in pigtails following them as they made their way to the strip mall the library was located at.

The two make it to the library, finding a free table to seat themselves at, Andrew mostly staying in place while Hannah comes back and forth as she brings back all kinds of books to present to Andrew in her attempts to gauge some idea of what kind of works he would be interest in. While she openly explained her own interests away, Hannah practically an open book.

“To be perfectly honest, and don’t tell anyone in the drama club about this, but I’m not a fan of Shakespeare at all. There are plenty of other great playwrights in history that are very much overlooked by popular culture now a days-” She notices that Andrew seems inattentive, kind of gazing off into nowhere with something else clearly on his mind. “Am… am I boring you…?” She begins to get self-conscious about just how much she had been babbling on.

Andrew brings his attention back to her. “Wha- Oh, well-” He notices that Hannah looks a little upset, he quickly trying to think of a way to respond to her that would hopefully counter that. “No! No, you’re just fine! It’s like I said, I’m just not big into plays and all that stuff, but you seem to like it so feel free to talk about it all you want even if I’m only half paying attention.”

He motions to all the books that Hannah had been bringing to the table. “I mean, you seem pretty happy talking about it regardless of if I’m here to listen or not, so who am I to stop you from rambling on?”

Hannah seems relived by the response. “Well I’m glad you don’t mind. I am sorry about the rambling though, when I start talking about something I’m passionate about I just kind of go on and on.”

Andrew smirks. “Trust me, this is far more preferable than what I have to go through at home right now.”

“Things at home aren’t going so well?”

“Let’s just say I’ve found myself in a situation I couldn’t have ever imagined myself to be in.”

Hannah give him a tiny nod of her head. “I guess I can understand, though it’s not the same problem things at my home aren’t going very good either. I’m sure you’ve heard all the yelling by now… I don’t think anyone in the apartment complex hasn’t.”

Andrew thinks it over as he tries to recall what she may be talking about, it soon clicking. “The angry guy that’s always screaming in German is your place?”

Hannah nods her head. “Yeah… that’s my Dad… he’s just… really stressed… you know?” She looks back to Andrew trying to get the topic off of her father. “Speaking of screaming you were doing a lot of that today. I could hear you at my place. What was that all about? Did your computer crash in the middle of doing homework or something?”

Before he is able to answer Andrew attention is taken off the conversation, a strange shadow watching them through the library’s shelves of book, it backing away an disappearing when it realizes that Andrew had spotted it.

Andrew gets out of the chair he had been sitting in as he starts to walk in the direction he had seen the strange shadow. “What the hell?”

Hannah begins to panic when she sees Andrew get up and start to leave. “Where are you going? Did I strike a nerve? I’m sorry I shouldn’t have asked you such a personal question!!”

Andrew glances back at her as he assures her that this was not her fault. “No, no you’re fine don’t worry.” He turns back to where the shadow had been, unable to ignore this curiosity. “I’ll be right back.”

He makes his way through the many shelves of books, searching through the library following the shadow. Every time he thought he had lost it, he would spot it again in the corner of his eye, his search leading him further from Hannah to an empty corner of the library where he loses the shadow. unable to spot it anymore.

He is about to turn back and return to the table he had left Hannah at when a girl’s voice breaks the silence. “When one human defies and changes their fate, it’s absolutely aggravating. All that hard work planning and crafting out everything, just gone to waste!”

Andrew looks around him, having not realized that anyone else was there, while the girl continues to speak. “It happens though, and we do the work needed to fix what has been broken and adjust fate accordingly.

He spots the owner of the voice, a young girl in a white dress with her hair in pigtails. She continues to speak, now turning to Andrew and staring back at him. “However, when you start changing your fate to the extent that you start getting other people involved and in turn changing theirs, that’s when I start to really get ****ing pissed off.”

Andrew frowns, not exactly please with how eerily what she said resonated with his current, very unthinkable situation with gods happened to be. “Who the hell are you?”

She pushes herself away from the bookshelf she had been leaning against, now beginning to approach Andrew. “Fate is not pleased with you Andrew, he has declared you to have overstepped your boundaries as a human and demands that you be put back in your place. As one of the servants of Fate I am here to punish you by taking your freewill.”

Andrew isn’t sure how to react, still trying to register everything that she had just said. “Wait, what?”

She holds her hands up, spindles appearing and hanging in the air over each of her palms, she grabs onto them holding them tightly in her hands, pointed end pointed toward Andrew as she rushes forward attacking him,

“Shit!!” Andrew moves out of the way, her attack missing him. Andrew losing no time in turning around and starting to run from her.

The girl watches him leave, letting go of one of the spindles and letting it float in the air beside her, making a beckoning motion as it rapidly begins to spin a long read string. “Running is only going to make this worse Andrew. Running makes me angry, and anger just makes me more damn violent!!”

“What the **** is going on!?!?” He suddenly comes crashing to the ground, Andrew pushing himself up and looking back to what he had tripped over to find a thin red string acting as a trip wire, he having not spotting such a thing the first time he had made his way through these shelves of books. “What the hell!?”

The thread moves, losing its tautness as a trip wire and now flying towards Andrew wrapping around his leg and pulling him back, Andrew fighting against it while fearfully spitting out curse word after curse word. He struggling stopping abruptly when the girl that was attacking him steps on his chest forcing and pinning him to the ground.

Andrew stares up at her figure as she looks down on him, the spindles she had summoned and hovering around her. Though she’s smiling at him her tone remains harsh. “Don’t worry, it’ll only hurt for a moment, after it’s all done you’ll never feel anything ever again.”

Before she is able to attack Andrew she is stopped when Era intervenes and attacks her sending her flying back from Andrew, he standing between of them, pointing one of his large clock hand like blades toward her was while speaking to her in a cocky tone. “Nona! I didn’t expect I’d run into you so soon!”

Kura, could you please put up the novel version of Newlyweds Next Door? Pretty please? It was one of the best/cutest things I ever read and now I can't find it anywhere. Whenever I eat rice of any kind I always remember that quote "Rice is for everyone who likes rice"
