Fun fact: the dream is a reference to "Fiddler on the Roof," an obvious influence.
Fun fact: "Anna Karenina" was published in 1873, eight years before this story takes place. However, it seems the book wasn't translated into Yiddish (what Rivke would have spoken at home) until 1929. But, as she can speak and read Russian too (unusual, but some girls could if they were taught), my sense was to keep the language issue simple and not worry about it.
Think STRANGER THINGS meets FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (but without the songs)... PALE OF SETTLEMENT is a YA fantasy set in 1881, after the assassination of Czar Alexander II (which really happened!). And after evil Cossacks kidnap a rabbi with a dark secret, it'll be up to his daughter to find the legendary Golem and save her dad... and the entire Russian empire. Along the way, she'll encounter monsters, magic... and romance!
