This has gotta be the worst lunch I’ve ever had. Kyoko, my friend I talk to at lunch everyday that sit behind me in class and Nex. I make my way to the lunch table and I’m the second there. Kyoko was the first to make it.
“Hey, Yukimura.”
“What’s with the orange hair all of the sudden?”
“Some guy told me that it would look good on me. He was cute so thats the only reason why I did it.”
“All that just for you to not date him?”
“You love to run your mouth.”
“Well you never date guys you like, right?”
“Because I’m not ready for that sort of thing. I’m not like you!”
“I’ve never dated a single girl in my life!” Kyoko smirks at my comment.
“From my perspective, it looks as if you’re a man who-“ A loud energetic voice cuts her off. It’s Nex…
“Hey ya guys!!! Who’s this chick?” Kyoko’s smile fades away as he speaks.
“Her name is Kyoko.”
“Hey…” Why is she being so dull all of the sudden?
“What’s wrong Kyoko?”
“Nothing. I’m heading to the bathroom real fast.”
“Huh?” Kyoko gets up and makes her way out the lunchroom.
“What’s her problem?”
“Good question. This is out of the ordinary for her. She never even tries to miss a second of lunch with me.”
“Maybe it’s because of how awesome I am!”
“You sure are self-centered.”
“Is that a bad thing?”
“With you? Yes, but it sure does pull the attention for you. Not like it’s going to matter in 10 months.”
“What do you mean? If I’m popular now, then I’ll always be popular! I’m Nex Orphus! Everyone loves me!”
“Your ‘popularity’ will mean nothing. You’re going to lose it all. People will forget you. No one is going to stick around with you. I wouldn’t even remember you on my deathbed.” Nex grimaces his teeth and has an expression of rage.
“PEOPLE WILL REMEMBER ME!” Nex shouts across the lunchroom. Did I strike a nerve?
“I want to help everyone. I want to be the sun of everyones day! I want to be the light in everyones darkness!”
“That’s corny.”
“You wouldn’t understand.” Nex takes a breath and calms down. He puts back his smile on his face and continues, “I have to give people things that not everyone can get. That’s what mother told me.” Well this is awkward.
“Let’s change the subject. How do you know me?”
“The school told me to ask you any questions about the school if needed. They say that you’re the ‘ideal student’.”
“WHAT!?”
“You’re student council from the sound of it! That’s so badass!”
“Hell no! Being a student council is bad AND ass!” Nex laughs and starts to scarf down food. He’s so weird. His name is foreign, can speak fluent japanese, and probably has some weird ego.
“Who’s that?” I turn my head to the voice and it’s Mya.
“You’re gonna act like you didn’t see me for a day?”
“Oh trust me. I’m pissed.”
“Um…? How do you not know me?”
“I was late to school because of an annoying person.”
“Oh, so you’re the Mya chick who was missing.” Mya raises her voice at Nex.
“Chick? Watch your mouth when talking about me! You call me Yukimura!”
“What’s with the hostility? Is calling girls in here ‘chicks’ all that bad?”
“Yes, Nex. It is.” I say to Nex with a exhausted expression. Mya grabs me by my arm and starts to drag me out the lunchroom and into the hallway.
“What are you doing?”
“You said you have to tell me something right?”
“Yeah, but its not important. Don’t worr-“
“You think having your brother gone for an entire day isn’t worrying?”
“It’s not like I’m dead or anything right?”
“Who knows? You could have died for all I know! Now you’re gonna stand here and tell me everything that happened.”
“Geez, fine.” I tell her about all the events that happened yesterday. Mya bursts out laughing.
“You dumbass! Hahahaha! Wow, so now we’re wanted criminals! That’s amazing! Just perfect!”
“Why are you-“
“BECAUSE WE’RE GONNA DIE, DAITAN!”
“Listen, Mya. We’ll be fi-“ Mya tosses me on the ground. I land on the floor on my back and feel pain rush through me.
“No, Daitan! We’re not going to be fine! If you had kept your damn mouth shut we could have been safe! You put my name into this you pea brained dumbass!”
“Is that all you care about?”
“You have 2 other innocent people that are helping us now, meaning that they are also risking their lives!" Mya walks back into the lunchroom while I lie in the empty hallway on the floor. Well this sucks. I wonder where Kyoko is right now.
Author’s Note: I have been very busy lately this week, so I am sorry for this shorter chapter.
