As if on cue, a familiar ping resonated in his mind, followed by a translucent game interface popping into existence right in front of what he assumed were his "eyes"—if worms had those. 

Oh great, now I'm in a video game too? he thought, rolling what would have been his eyes if he had them.

"Well, isn't this just peachy?" Alex thought, attempting to wrap his mind around the absurdity of his situation. 

At least I have a title. Wiggling Wanderer. Sounds like a bad indie band name, or maybe the title of a memoir no one wants to read. From another world to this one, now fully certified in dirt consumption? Talk about a career shift! Who knew this was on my bucket list? 

With little else to occupy his time—and no thumbs to twiddle—he decided to put his unique ability to the test. 

I never thought I'd actually consider eating dirt. This is a new low, even for me. He chuckled at the thought before beginning to munch on the soil surrounding him. It wasn't exactly gourmet cuisine, but it wasn't terrible either.
