With each mouthful of earth he consumed, he felt the familiar rush of experience points filling him with energy. "Wow, this is like a dirt buffet!" he thought, a strange connection forming between him and the tunnel. "It's almost like I'm becoming one with the soil... or maybe just really, really dirty." 

As he munched away, Alex noticed the compacted dirt beginning to loosen, creating a small gap. "See? I'm making progress!" he exclaimed, his enthusiasm bubbling over. "Who knew dirt devouring could be so exhilarating?" 

Mortimer watched in awe as Alex worked, the little worm digging through the earth with surprising speed. "Remarkable! I never would have thought—" 

But before Mortimer could finish, a sudden loud crash echoed from deeper within the tunnel. The rumbling intensified, and Alex's heart raced as he felt the vibrations surge through the earth. "Great! Just when I was feeling like a hero, the universe decides to throw a cave-in party!" 

"Uh, Mortimer, I think we might need to hurry!" Alex called out; his voice laced with urgency. "Unless we're planning on hosting a dirt-themed farewell party!" 

"Right! Keep going!" Mortimer urged, frantically flipping switches and trying to stabilize the vehicle. "I'm not getting squished today!"
