- Marilou, it's time to eat! Her mother called her with a firm but soft voice
The young girl scretched herself in her covers, without passing a single comment. Marilou fell asleep, in the middle of the day; we couldn't accuse her because of the long car trip. She didn't really know what to think about the relocating...Letting her feet hit the ground heavily, the teenager followed the corridor, hoping to find the kitchen somewhere.
She was bewildered by her house's furniture; it was like a haunted house, as we saw it in horror movies. The smell of grilled chicken guided her steps to a rustic room, away from the other ones.
Like all the rest of the manor, it was incredibly beautiful, ignoring the horror movie atmosphere that reigned. Marilou heard her mother's voice echoing around the kitchen, and so she entered.
- What are eating this afternoon, mom? Marilou inquired, sitting next to her brother in the dining room
- Spaghetti! In the honour of our new house! Shannon responded proudly, stirring the sauce in the cauldron
Marilou nodded her head, directing her gaze to her older brother. His face buried in his new Apple telephone, Isaac didn't pay attention at nothing else for the moment. A delicious scent of bolognese sauce took him suddenly, as his mother would drop the bowls to their respective places. Isaac looked up from his cellphone, slowly but surely, as the family started eating. The silence reigned in the room. Philippe cleared his throat loudly, before starting to taste the meal. His wife scrutinized the decoration with a critical glance, without saying anything. The twins' eyes met, indifferent.
- Delicious. Marilou commented after finishing her mouthful
- Yes, ch' thank you ch' mom..Isaac hurried to say, still chewing his meal
Shannon bursted out laughing at the incoherent words that her son mentioned, as Marilou watched her brother. She thought that he had quite a lack of great manners. Trying to keep her expression unreadable, the girl shifted her gaze away from him and focused on her mother.
- So, do you like the new house, kids? Philippe questioned after a while, as his wife cleared the bottom of her bowl with her fork
- It's shitty! There's no wi-fi! Isaac squeaked
Shannon cleared her throat once again, directing her gaze to the chandelier. Shining like a million stars, its rustic style made the true beauty of the room show some more. It was spooky, yet so beautiful at the same time.
Marilou wanted to tell her parents how this house made her remember those manors in movies, but she remained silent as she saw her brother's smile right next to her. His brother, smiling? He may have won a game of Call of Duty, the girl thought as she noticed the phone that he held in his hands.
The evening happened without any issues. Obviously, the family felt insecure, at the view of such a huge manor, compared to their small suburb house. Nobody dared to comment, yet they had to notice it was a change in their usual lifestyle. Everyone brought the idea with a dagger pierced through their hearts, yet they stopped themselves from complaining.
For the night, Marilou had stopped her choice on jogging pants and an oversized shirt. The girl always liked making her own pajamas; she felt genuine.
The teenager woke up at five fifty five in the morning, her throat feeling dry. Reluctantly, the girl hardly stood up, grabbing her phone at the same moment. In the corridors, it was dark and it made her afraid. With all the lights of the mansion closed we could always see ourselves in a haunted house.
The young girl tried to find her way to the kitchen, to make herself a glass of water. "And then, I'll leave, I sleep, and I don't act like a wimp.." Marilou noted to herself mentally, using her telephone's light so she could see something. She walked during a half-hour, forgetting where she wanted to go.
- Where did I want to go? Marilou whispered to herself, surrounded by darkness, her heart starting to beat faster
Fear started to seize her, like a tsunami swallowing cities. The girl gulped, trying to keep her cool. The sayings she spent hours on memorizing didn't help her. She felt small, helpless.
Holding her phone close to her chest, she did a u-turn to the direction that seemed to be her bedroom. Her footsteps looked like huge efforts; she found herself so weak to be afraid... Yet she couldn't help herself, the mansion was sending a shiver down her spine.
Marilou seeked a shadow, from afar, too big to be human. Her eyes widened as she saw the details. A creature with numerous tentacles, the expression stuck in a mischievous one.
The girl felt like her heart jumped out of her chest, her hands shaking as her face went white. She screamed, almost making a chair falling at the same time. When she pulled herself out of her trance, Marilou took deep breaths and remained silent, embarassed.
- I reacted to much, visibly, it was a tarantula.. The girl whispered, shutting her eyes.
The teenager was glad that the darkness filled the place, because if they would see her in there, they wouldn't see the blush that creeped onto her cheeks. She felt really stupid, yet relieved.
"There wasn't a monster, I'm just a whimp!" She bawled mentally, walking towards her room. The single thought of finding herself in those corridors made her shudder.
Shutting the door behind her, Marilou jumped on her bed and barely slept that night.
