Black Dahlia's and Mountain Rose

Blooming

Blooming

Oct 08, 2024

Zarvan walked around the halls of the castle trying to avoid the commotion in the banquet hall in particular. He was never really social to begin with and the bright lights were always bothering him. In the past three years, he only participated due to the prophecy given to him by his late mother, the Celestial of Time, and now recently his older brother Victor. A promise of understanding between two equals if he was able to let go of his veil. Zarvan was always intrigued by this prophecy, but he was only fixated on the details it provided for the person he was destined to meet: rainbow eyes and the recreation of plants. He was certain when he met a certain girl in a village who approached him without fear, but she didn't have those eyes, yet the final time he saw her, her eyes glowed a spiral of colors. He never saw her again to confirm and even though the Nature Celestails daughter was found this year, there was no guarantee she would come. The garden entrance was built especially for her, no one else was to step foot, yet Zarvan felt like this was all such a waste. He just wanted to be alone, feeling foolish at the thought of being seen.
Zarvan quickly snapped out of his thoughts as he felt something zooming through the halls, rapidly moving closer to him. He hid to see who it was, but the quick succession of movements only left a pink blur that ran to the gardens. Zarvan soon followed and was led outside trying to find who would be so rude to just roam around without permission. He entered the gardens trying to find the perpetrator, then he heard excessive crying, an annoyed expression wafted on his face as he followed the sound.
The sound became louder through the arches and the maze-like bushes until he saw a figure in the darkness. He called out angrily, "This isn't a place you can just enter, get..." his voice began to trail off as the clouds exposed the moon, its shining light illuminating the figure. A blooming pink rose surrounded by bell-like flowers, an aura of pure life emanating from her body. Then when she turned, he saw the loveliest rainbow eyes shedding tears that were akin to precious pearls. Her face showed she recognized him, and at that moment so did he. He smiled, "Fiore, I'm glad to see you again".

Zarvan led Fiore to a nearby bench, lending her a handkerchief to dry her tears. "Pardon me, Prince Zarvan, I didn't mean to intrude in your gardens. I just needed to get away from the crowds for a moment". The prince was embarrassed by his previous thought as he heard her words, "No need, this place was made especially for you, if you didn't use it it would go to waste. Also, I get what you mean by the crowds. Even though they are Celestial children, I feel like they are always an arm's length away, I feel like they are being cautious. I thought since we hosted these get-togethers, I felt like I would at least make one friend, but I guess that would be childish to think ", the prince sighed but then realized how much he was talking. His embarrassment showed on reddened cheeks as he turned to Fiore, " Excuse me, I didn't mean to rambled, I just thought it would be better to get rid of silly dreams, don't you agree".
Fiore was surprised by his words, she felt they were in a similar situation and smiled, "Actually, Prince Zarvan, I came here with something similar in mind. Well, that and other things, but, I don't think people can see me as being able to make mistakes, much less an equal, so...I wanted to see if there was someone able to look at me".  Zarvan stared at that lovely disposition and smiled brightly, could this be the person he was looking for? Zarvan picked a bud from a nearby bush and offered it to Fiore, " A long time ago when I met you in a little village when I was looking for something, you were the very first to approach me and ask me to be your friend. Do you still feel the same way", the flower in his hands bloomed. Fiore was astonished that his power was similar to hers and smiled childishly. He looked unfazed by her appearance and when he looked at her it was unlike any other gaze set on her. She grabbed his hand and giggled with excitement," Always, from now on you will be my friend, Zarvan", Zarvan was surprised, but welcomed the gesture.

Zarvan walked with her hand in hand back to where her father was. Nyssa looked worried but hugged his child in relief. Nyssa looked at the boy who came with his daughter and recognized him, "My apologies your Highness for not greeting you sooner". Zarvan elegantly shook his head, "No need for the formalities Mr.Nyssa but I regret to say this is where I leave both of you". Fiore smiled and brought their fist up, "That's okay, in the meantime, write to me when we are apart and I will write to you, what da ya say?". Zarvan matched her energy with a wide smile, "Sounds like a promise". They waved goodbye and parted in the hallway, Fiore left with her father to the banquet hall and the prince ventured back to the hallways almost disappearing into shadows.
Fiore went on and, however, her father gifted her some unexpected news, "Darling, regarding the Golem, I managed to grant you an audience with a Celestial child, but she is in mourning so she might not grant you what you want". Fiore nodded as she was brought to a separate room far from the banquet hall. The doors opened to reveal a shining light and she immediately curtsied, "Good evening, pardon my impudence at this time. I am the daughter of the Celestial of Nature, Fiore. We have come to ask you regarding a certain power source".
Fiore waited to be greeted but she could no longer hold her pose, she lifted her head to see the Celestial child hoping she wasn't angry. She was a grown woman, she sat in a delicate pose, statuesque, her long wavey black curls covered in a veil of golden and jewels, her dress was as if the sun itself draped over her in a glittering slip dress of shimmering gold. She placed her hands over her mouth as her eyes scrunched, tears trickling down her cheeks. She quickly caught herself and cleared her throat. She then began to speak in a low tone, "Pardon me, child, I was caught in my emotions. You just look exactly like my youngest child. I lost her before she could awaken fully about a month ago, but seeing you has brought me very fond memories once again". She cleared her voice and composed herself. "Now with formalities. My name is Empress Lucian and I am a Child of the Celestial of Light, I hear you have reached out to me for a light source".
"Yes Your Majesty, I am trying to make an automatic Golem and I saw in an old historic parchment that you may be able to make one".
"A Golem with a perpetual flame? Hmmm, child, I know of something you may be referring to, but it does not sound like something we usually do. Can you describe what the golem does".
"Yes, it's supposed to move independently, it does not need any maintenance, and they are made to excel in combat when they experience it. Also, it's said they transform to the user form."
"Do you have a picture of the golem or the parchment?":
Fiore handed her the copy she made. The Light Celestial looked through the writings and then the picture. "Young Fiore, this picture looks more like a human than it does the golem we are accustomed to. An automatic golem can be made out of almost any material, however, it does not need a perpetual flame to function automatically, I think that would be overkill, and for a fact, they cannot adapt to combat. Also, the perpetual flame phrase here is a miss translation, I think it is more akin to ongoing life force or inner soul. Moreover, Golem, in this context your reading is to be taken offense in a sense, as the writer didn't like what this was. So if we piece it together it may say, 'to create a submissive creature, made to obey all command, take your willing tool and bestow on it your inner life or dear Celestial of the Sun".
Fiore thought about the new translation, "Then that means anyone can make whatever this is, right?".
"Yes, but the question then continues, what is this thing".

Fiore bid her goodbyes to the Empress of the Sun and decided it was time to leave with the new information. She admitted to being disappointed with the outcome, but she had leaned more about the Celestial's mother language and its nuances. She wanted to learn more but regarding what the Empress was going through she believed it was not the right time. As she also bid adieu to the Emporer, she saw a familiar face approaching her, "Mr. Caleb?", she couldn't believe her eyes. He hadn't aged a day since she last saw him. Caleb somehow recognized Fiore and briefly smiled before heading out again. Fiore found it odd but kept it in the back of her head.

As the months flew by a year had come and gone. Fiore again was riddled with more responsibilities regarding the expansion of her territory. More people were coming in but she still needed to find a way to keep them all safe as well as her mother's tree. She kept practicing terraforming with her ability set, but it was still straining her body moving thousands of pounds of earth without disrupting the ecosystem too much. However, she felt herself improving and she felt pride due to that. Also, she saw how happy everyone was, the children smiling with their mothers, families reunited, it was more than she hoped for. She kept at it until she realized what day it was. She ran to her tent and bathed as fast she could, she picked her most dignified dress and pulled her hair out of her face. Her friend was coming over and she wanted to make a good first impression. She then ran to the gates and saw the warriors' happy expressions, they had all grown in number, and both men and women patrolled her little city. She went to greet them but wore a veil over her face, it didn't completely nullify her power, but it helped.
"My lady what brings you here?", one of the warriors on duty asked.
"A Celestial is coming to visit so I just wanted to be the first to greet them".
"I see my lady. Do you want to see overhead".
     "I'd love to".
The warrior led her up the stairs, she never realized she had never seen over the wall. The layout was similar to the village she saved, surrounded by a wall of wood over 10 ft tall, reinforced with tar at the base and thorny rose bushes cascading down, surrounded the village is an octagonal shape with two more openings; one at the rear and on one of the sides. She looked overhead and saw the plane. It felt like it went on forever, its vibrant colors reaching towards the vastness of it all. As she took everything in she felt she had an idea in order reinforce the security. She quickly became distracted as she looked beyond the horizon, and she saw him. A carriage made out of pearl, being led by nothing in front, the speed.
Fiore's eyes beamed and she jumped over the wall to everyone's horror. The warrior in charge tried to grab her but she had already flung herself. As this happened, the prince saw and immediately jumped out of the carriage to catch her, in a split second it was as if he teleported under her. Fiore laughed as she floated down and landed in front of him with his face in disarray, "Please don't make this a habit", he said worriedly. Fiore again snickered and went in for a hug after not seeing him for long, " Sorry, I just couldn't contain myself". Zarvan was taken aback by her embrace but didn't mind it. It was the first time someone had expressed themselves like this to him.
Fiore began to show him around the village, his eyes shooting around due to the accuracy with her letters described her home, but it felt shabby for a place a Celestial would reside, also he didn't appreciate everyone's eyes staring at his dear friend, and damning him. As he was deep in thought Fiore noticed his odd expression and she noticed the residents avoiding looking their way. Fiore took Zarvans hand and led him to a less populated region, "Fiore, it something wrong?", he asked concerned. Fiore made a melancholic expression, "I thought you would feel more comfortable with fewer eyes on you". Zarvan gave a sincere smile at his friend's concern, "I feel like it's the norm, I try not to let it bother me these days", he said while squeezing her hand. Fiore returned the smile but the guilty feeling began to form in her stomach, "Still, I wish people could see you like I do". Zarvans eyes widened as he heard those words, he could feel a twinge in his heart.

They walked side by side as Fiore led him to a secret place. They exited the village and Fiore placed her hand on the ground, a wooden platform began to form and Fiore had Zarvan step on top. Zarvan was confused, but the moment the platform sped away he firmly gripped the edges as he fell forward. Fiore kneeled and placed her hand on his back, "Don't worry, I won't let you fall. I've been waiting to show this". Zarvan could only laugh as he held on for dear life, "Well, I hope it's worth it".

The platform was quick to arrive at the destination and soon enough, Zarvan felt it slow down. His eyes adjusted to what was in front of him. The Rainbow Tree, her mother's resting place. Fiore helped Zarvan off the platform and led him to the trunk. He could feel the same energy that emanated from Fiore as the leaves shimmered in the light, he felt that anything here would heal or grow in a moment's notice. he remembered hearing a rumor or two further back, some humans speculated the tree could even give back your youth or even bring someone back from the dead. Fiore smirked, "Don't believe the petty lies of those who tried to steal this tree. Of course, it created miracles, I've seen people come back from the brink, heal wounds, and even give life to barren lands, but it cannot bring back what is lost. But in the end, this is my mother", Fiore then turned to Zarvan, "Did your mother leave something similar". Zarvan exhaled at the heavy matter, seeing as her demeanor was less bright, "She turned to sand, and in exchange, I felt like I took away her remaining years".
Fiore was surprised by his words and she held his hand, "I know the feeling". Zarvan clutched her hand as he looked at the tree, "You would, wouldn't you". They both stood in silence, not wanting to interrupt the moment.
