“Where are you bastards? I’m going to kill you for abandoning me!” Howled the blinded creature.
“This hag is going to pay!” Screamed the other one.
“ How could they just leave us here?” It shouted.
They knew their being blind was their doom to roam into the forest for eternity. They grabbed any branches, rocks, and the ground not to trip. They shouted, cursed, and begged for the other slaugh to come back.
Then they heard leaves and twigs crunching. Someone was walking toward them.
“Who is there? Announce yourself.” Demanded one of the creatures.
The blonde individual stayed silent but gave a silent huff.
"Well, announce yourself, coward!" Yelled the creature.
“I say, you made quite a loud stir, it scared other beings. That’s not very polite of you.” the individual replied with a British accent.
“Well why can’t you come closer, and we can discuss this further.” replied the creature, about to strike in the direction the voice came from
“I’m afraid I won’t. You three are the most repulsive beings I have ever seen, and I’m here to put you out of your misery for good.” Said the individual.
The blind slaughs charged in the direction they heard the voice, but the individual flew above them, pulled out a glowing sword cane, and quickly cut their heads clean.
The heads and bodies fell to the ground, and he grabbed them. The blonde gentleman grabbed the heads and put them in a sac.
“I will make use of your existence by making you my specimen, but first, let's find out who brought you here in the first place,” he said
The stranger stared with his glowing red eyes at the bag.
Meanwhile, Dakota put out the fire he had made last night. It was already early in the morning, it was time to pack up. Last night, everyone was in an awkward silence. When Johnny ate his stew, he immediately excused himself, told the couple that he was going to bed, and laid on the ground. He couldn't sleep, but he pretended to so no one would talk to him or steal his items again.
When it was morning, Johnny got up at the same time that Dakota and Pine had woken up. He watched the couple pack up and wondered how they were going to move the vargo without a horse.
Dakota had broken the awkward silence.
"Boy, it's time to leave now. Get inside, and we will discuss more about our plan later." Said Dakota.
Johnny didn't say anything, but he went inside as instructed.
In the front of the vardo he saw buttons that were somewhat similar to a steering wheel. He was confused how they had gotten this since they didn't have automobiles at that time yet, but again, he remembers they attempted to steal his things, so that's most likely how they got it.
He watched Dakota pressing buttons and hold the steering wheel and the vardo moved. Pine and Johnny sat down.
"So, how did you get into this place?” Asked Dakota.
Johnny didn't know if to tell him the full truth or half-truth. He mumbled and didn't know how to start.
"Fine, let me tell you how we have gotten first. We had been ambushed and had a shootout. Pine and I fell into the water, and we somehow got here." Said Dakota.
"I have found this book and the creatures were after me. They wanted me to open a portal, and I was dragged in." Said Johnny.
"How did you get these pages?" Asked Pine.
" I found a book in a library store, and I made copies out of it ." Lied Johnny.
"Why would a boy like you be interested in those things? I have read a page, and the original writer warned you not to use this book." Asked Dakota.
"Look, I didn't think those things were real. I thought it was some weird cult book, and I was bored." Said Johnny annoyed.
"Okay, just asking." Replied Dakota.
It was an awkward silence for a bit, and Johnny was thinking that he had heard the names Dakota and Pine before, but it took him a bit to remember. He then remembered that in the Wild West show, there was an outlaw villain named Dakota. He had to lurk with a pit of alligators and attempt to feed them with a damsel in distress, and the hero saved her and pushed the evil Dakota into the alligator pit instead. Also, the real Dakota didn’t resemble the TV character at all. Dakota was short, middle-aged, and balding in the series. But the real one is very tall, thin, and in his mid-twenties.
"So, are you the Wild West outlaw, Dakota? Did you know Wiley Buck?" asked Johnny.
Dakota was confused and was kind of creeped out that Johnny knew something about his personal life.
"How do you know that?” Asked Dakota.
"We have a weekly TV show called Wild West Adventures with Wiley Buck and I remember there was an outlaw named Dakota, but he didn't really look like you, but he did have a mustache. Pine was there too, but she looked all animal-like, then humanoid,” said Johnny, not mentioning the part where Dakota is depicted as a dumb villain in the show.
Dakota and Pine didn't know and were confused about what Johnny was blabbering about.
"What is a TV? Asked Pine.
Johnny explained that it’s a box that shows moving pictures, and it’s like a theatrics performance.
“Well, I’m glad that I am still famous, and the good old Buck didn’t forget about me. When we get out of here, remind me to visit my old pal's grave. Said Dakota sarcastically.
Johnny got the confirmation that that’s them, but he wonders what Pine is exactly. She is an alligator and a human hybrid. He wondered if she was some kind of water spirit, or she was human before but cursed to look like that.
Two hours have passed, there was small talk, but later there was more silence. Dakota parked the vardo in a hidden place and put on his mask.
“Johnny, we are heading into town to get important supplies, since you don’t have a mask, you must stay here. We will be back in a few hours,” instructed Dakota.
“No way, what if those creatures see me and grab me when you are gone?” Said Johnny.
Pine agreed with Johnny, and she prefers the vardo not being destroyed by the slaugh.
“Fine, but you must change your clothes and hairstyle. You will be behind me at all times. Also, you will pretend to be deaf.” said Dakota while sorting clothes from a chest.
“Deaf?” Asked Johnny.
“And mute.” Dakota responded by throwing clothes at Johnny.
Johnny was annoyed but put on the clothes. Pine grabbed some gel and smooth his hair flat. She also added some dark circles under his eyes to make him look more "dead". She then shape-shifts into a wild west woman.
The three headed to town, Johnny was fascinated that it looks like the movies, he looked around gleefully. They entered the general store, and Dakota bought some essentials like more cans, coffee, and shells for his guns. Johnny looked around the store, not paying attention to Dakota. When Dakota was done, they went to other places to purchase things.
“Can we look at the saloon?” Asked Johnny.
“What no! What happened to the part where I told you that you were mute? Also, the saloon is too much trouble for a boy like you.” said Dakota.
“Can we just look? Please? We don’t have those-
“This isn’t like your TV, there are annoying beings lurking there.” Said Pine.
“Fine,” said Johnny disappointed
Just as they were about to leave town, Johnny saw a few slaugh entering the town.
Pine grabbed Johnny's shirt from the back, and they all quickly entered the saloon.
