Shadows of the Forgotten

Fight

Fight

Oct 13, 2024

As they entered the saloon, they quickly seated themselves at a corner table. Pine grabbed a newspaper and shoved it to cover Johnny's face.

The slaugh entered the swinging doors into the saloon right after them and were scanning their surroundings carefully. Not seeing Johnny, they sat on the opposite side, where the main bar was. Not acknowledging the group’s presence.

The locals looked at Pine weirdly, but immediately turned their attention toward the slaugh. They didn't like the creature's scary appearance, but they didn't say anything just yet.

Dakota pulled out a piece of paper , a small box of tobacco from his pocket and rolled it up. He lit it up and started smoking quietly. He carefully watched the creatures in the corner of his eye and was thinking of a plan on how to get out of this place without being noticed by them.

Johnny was too scared to remove the newspaper and didn't want to see them at all. He stood still, sweating, and didn't say a word.

The slaugh were discussing on what to do since they knew Johnny was nearby, and they needed to get him as soon as possible. They also quietly argued among with each other and blaming one and another.

One of the slaugh had a familiar, ragged voice, it was the Beast; he was still “alive”. Pine was confused since she remembered ripping him into pieces. Johnny was also confused.

“I should’ve ripped the boy's head off when I had a chance.” Said the Beast.

“Shut up, it’s your fault that you lost him,” said the other slaugh.

The Beast grumbled and grinned his sharp teeth. He didn’t argue further, since the locals were already giving them uninviting looks.

The bar tender approached the strange beings and asked them what do they want to drink. The slaugh ordered a whiskey and the bartender asked for payment. They threw a bloody bag of coins at him, and he left the bottle for them to guzzle down upon.

Then someone started playing the piano, and the curtains went up. It was a show, a bunch of showgirls was on stage and starting to sing. The locals and the slaugh focused their eyes on the women. The women pulled their skirts off, and the men started whistling and cheering.  The slaugh looked at the women as prey. The beast was licking his beak and smiling creepily at them.

Johnny took a peeked out of curiosity at the women and immediately turned red in the face.

Dakota gave a little smirk, seeing Johnny's embarrassed expression.

Then Pine and Dakota seized the opportunity and grabbed Johnny and tried to sneak out of the saloon. Just as they headed to the door, three Minotaur entered and blocked the group from leaving.

They were 8 feet (2.44 m) tall and bulky.

They turned their attention to Pine.

“I say, a pretty lady like you knows you can’t be here in the saloon, unless you are here looking for a real cowboy like me.” Said the Minotaur, flirting with a goofy grin. Ignoring Dakota's presence.

Pine cringed at that cheap attempt at flirting and couldn’t believe that she had forgotten to shape-shift into a man to enter the saloon. She was too busy focusing on the escape plan.  She facepalmed.

Dakota was furious that the Minotaur had the audacity to flirt with his woman. His flaming blue hair has gotten higher. But Pine needed to act quickly before everyone turned their attention to them.

“MOOve it” said Pine, attempting to walk through, but the other Minotaur blocked the doorway.

“A little lady with an attitude, I love that.” Said the Minotaur, grabbing Pine's arm and twirling her around to dance.

Pine obliged and danced with him. She was ready to shape-shift into something bigger to kick his butt. She then grabbed the Minotaur’s nose ring. The Minotaur wailed in agony but kind of liked it. He reached out for a kiss. Just when Pine was about to shape-shift, Dakota immediately jumped on the back of the Minotaur and started clawing him, attempting to choke him out of jealousy.

The Minotaur easily grabbed Dakota out of his back and flung him right into the slaughs.

Pine immediately shape-shifted into a bull and started charging at the Minotaur, flicking him into one of the locals' tables. All hell started breaking loose, everyone starting fighting each other, throwing chairs, and hitting each other with bottles. The bar tender quickly ran to the back room.

Johnny was terrified and started crawling under one of the tables that wasn’t broken yet. One of the slaughs were slammed into Johnny’s table, and he immediately saw Johnny face-to-face. It was about to yell to the other slaugh that Johnny was here, but one of the Minotaur grabbed him by the neck, threw him into the piano and closed the lid.

Johnny took that opportunity and crawled into the main bar counter, and covered his head. He heard the commotion, screaming and shooting, but he was afraid to look.

The dancing women grabbed their shotgun and shot the ceiling

“Everyone, get the heck out, or I will start shooting all of you before the sheriff gets here!” Shouted the women.

Everyone stopped, and at the same time the sheriff came in the saloon, everyone started to scatter and didn’t want to go to jail.  Except for Johnny, he still didn’t even move. The bar tender pointed at Johnny, and the sheriff grabbed him by the collar and took him to jail.

“I didn’t do anything, mister!” Johnny said while grabbing the jail's countertop, not wanting to be locked up.

“You have no business being here, boy, especially in a saloon. I’m going to find out whom you really are and why you are here.” Said the sheriff, yanking Johnny and dragging him into the jail cell.

The sheriff locked the cell up and walked away to find others.

The jail officer immediately went to sleep after the sheriff left.

Johnny sat down in his cell bed. He was concerned that Pine and Dakota had run away, and he wasn't sure if they were even going to come back to get him. Would they risk bailing him out, or would someone else get him first?

It was dusk, and the blonde stranger was riding a horse and approaching the town. He needed a small break from traveling, so he decided to enter the town.

He saw a bunch of locals bruised and scruffy-looking. One of the Minotaur's had a broken horn. The stranger got off from his horse and entered the saloon. The bartender and women were cleaning up the mess.

“We are closed, sir.” The bartender said agitated and wasn't in the mood to see any more guests.

The stranger saw dark feathers that matched the creatures he had previously killed and picked it up, observing it.

“Have you seen creatures that have a bird-reptile-like appearance?” Asked the stranger.

“Yeah, I saw them, but they scattered like everyone else after the sheriff came in here to stop the fighting and to prevent more damage.” replied  the bartender.

The stranger still observed for more clues but then smelled fresh blood under the main bar's counter, he  carefully approached toward it and touched the dropping  blood with the tip of his finger.

“A living human.” Thought the stranger. He wiped the blood on a napkin and put it in his pocket.

“Do you know who was under this counter?” He asked.

“Some boy, he was taken to jail. “ Replied the woman

The vampire quickly exited the saloon and quickly headed toward jail.
