The jail officer was in deep sleep and snoring. Johnny was looking around to see if anything can be useful for his escape. There was nothing, so Johnny laid down in his bed, staring at the ceiling.
Several minutes later, the sheriff came back and smacked the officer in the back of the head.
“Wake up!” Said the sheriff, annoyed.
The officer woke up confused but got up quickly.
“Since you are being useless, why don’t you bring us some breakfast? It’s going to be morning soon.” Said the sheriff.
The officer was confused by the sheriff’s grumpy attitude, but he obliged the request and went home to make some food.
Johnny got up from his bed and walked closely to the cell bars to talk to the sheriff.
But just when he was about to beg him to let him go, the sheriff shape-shifted. It was Pine, and she grabbed the keys and unlocked the cell doors. Johnny was glad to see her and was about to speak, but Pine made a hush sign. She heard footsteps coming back upstairs.
It was the stranger who approached the office. Pine shape-shifted back into the sheriff, and Johnny was hiding under the desk quietly.
The stranger approached the desk.
“Excuse me, sir, have you gotten a boy here locked up?” Asked the stranger, smelling the air.
“Maybe I do, maybe I don’t, what business do you have with him?” Asked the sheriff. (Pine)
“ My name is Emrys, I am Tuatha De Danaan. A ranger that helps the living not to be here in the between worlds. The boy is among them and is still alive. As the rules have stated, he is not allowed to be here for his own safety. I must investigate and later collect him to see how he has gotten here.” Said the stranger, showing a blue tattoo on his arm with a strange sign to prove whatever he claims to be.
Pine was very familiar with those guardians, but she had never seen them up close or their tattoos. But it didn't matter; she needed to get rid of him. She pretended to look concerned and shocked.
“I see… You may question him, but I need to ask many more questions after you do talk to the boy.” Said the sheriff (Pine).
Emrys agreed
The sheriff (Pine) pointed at the cell on the right, pretending to get some papers. Emrys walked toward the cell, and she followed him behind.
He then saw the cell was empty and quickly went to investigate inside. He saw some blood on the bed.
Pine immediately took that opportunity and locked the cell quickly.
With the realization that it was a trap, Emrys gotten up, grabbed the bars, and pushed them back and forth frustratingly to attempt to unlock himself.
Johnny gotten out underneath the desk and locked eyes with Emrys for a bit. Johnny quickly turned away. Pine and Johnny ran quickly downstairs and outside. The real sheriff and officer saw them trying to escape and started to chase after them. But then the vardo started driving toward them. They hurried and jumped inside. The sheriff and officer started shooting the vargo, but it drove away, and they were not able to catch it in time.
“Darn it.” Yelled the sheriff, throwing his hat on the floor and stepping on it.
They quickly went inside the office and saw Emrys in the cell.
Pine and Dakota cheered and laughed about their escape. Dakota was still driving at high speed, just in case anyone else was still chasing them.
Johnny was s in shock over what just happened and didn’t know how to properly react just yet. He then looked at his shoulder and saw blood in his shirt—lots of blood. He looked at the vargo, and it had some fresh bullet holes. Likewise, he just calculated based on what just happened. Furthermore, he couldn’t feel anything yet. He was still in shock pain.
“Um… I think… I have been shot.” Johnny stated this and is now realizing the situation.
The two stopped celebrating and Pine quickly went to observe the wound. Dakota was still driving since he couldn’t stop the vardo yet.
Pine quickly looked for medicine in the cabinets and boxes, but it was empty. They have run out. She grabbed whiskey.
"This will have to do for now.” Said Pine, quickly removing his shirt.
“Wait, am I going to die? Was anesthesia invented yet? I can’t watch this.” Said Johnny now panicking.
“Yes, anesthesia was invented.” Said Pine.
“Oh, thank goo-“ said Johnny.
“But we don’t have it here at the moment,” interrupted Pine, opening a whiskey cork with her teeth and immediately pouring it into his wound.
Johnny screamed in agony and Pine knocked him out instantly.
Time had passed. Johnny had woken up. His head was hurting, but he had gotten up and saw that his shoulder was wrapped in clean rags. He saw that the vardo had already stopped. He was in so much pain that he grumbled.
Dakota was making dinner and heard Johnny and went inside.
“Oh, you are awake! How are you feeling?” asked Dakota.
“In a lot of pain.” Grumbled Johnny.
"Pine should be back soon. She ran out of ingredients, so she had to scavenge for some more. In the meantime, relax, and I will bring some food," said Dakota, walking back outside.
A half an hour had passed, and Pine had come back.
The guys were already eating dinner.
“Here drink this.” Said Pine giving him a small bowl with green goop.
“What is this?” Asked Johnny, not really wanted to drink it.
“It’s medicine. It should help with the pain.” Said Pine.
Johnny was hesitant but drank it. It had a foul taste, but he drank it all. The medicine healed all his wounds instantly.
“Woah, what is this made out of?” asked Johnny, impressed.
"Many things, but it's very hard to come by. Maybe I can show you someday." Said Pine.
Johnny smiled at Pine. They all discuss their side of the story of the saloon event. But then the topic of Emrys was mentioned. Johnny could've sworn that Emrys looked very familiar, but he didn't know where he had seen him. Then he remembered the image from the book, and he ran quickly into the vardo to look for the pages. Dakota and Pine were curious about what Johnny was looking for. Johnny sorted all the pages, hoping that Nichole had printed every single page, including the one that Chris had ruined. By his luck, she had. He quickly grabbed the page and showed it to Pine. Pine instantly recognized him, but was curious about who ruined his picture.
"This is the guy." Said Johnny.
Dakota grabbed the copied picture and read the letter that came with it.
"The guy mentioned that his name was Emmy, right? But the multiple letters that I have read state that the previous owner of that book was a guy named Francis. Said Dakota.
"I wonder why he had his picture then." said Johnny, worried.
“Maybe that's the guy who attempted to sacrifice him and his sister. So Francis had a warning picture of him; if so others find the book, they might be cautious when they encounter the chump. Dakota speculated.
Johnny was scared and remembered Emrys was staring at him. The slaughs were still after him, but now he has to also worry about a new potential threat.
