vardo had finally stopped when they saw the nearest town. Exhausted, hungry and lots of body aches, they all slowly stepped outside.
"I need to talk to you, boy." Said Dakota
Johnny didn't say anything but knew that Dakota was about to confront him about the book.
"I need you to tell me the truth and everything. If you lie to me even once, you will be left in this town. Where did you find the book, and what is your relation with the Pendragons?" Asked Dakota, with a serious face
Johnny didn't know what to say, but he didn't have a choice in that matter anymore. He could either be left at town and wait until the Rangers or slaugh to get him. Or he shall risk continuing the journey with his new acquaintances.
Johnny signed and decided to tell them the truth.
"Francis is my great-grandfather, but I'm not sure about Emrys." Said Johnny
Johnny told the truth about finding the book in the attic, how he used the book to impress a girl, and she made copies, and how his brother had the original book.
Dakota and Pine looked at him and listened to his story. Sometimes they didn't understand modern culture, like goth or high school.
Grasping the information that Johnny had told them, Pine and Dakota huddled up and started whispering at each other.
"What do you think of his story?" Asked Pine
"I believe he is telling the truth." Said Dakota
Pine agreed. They still whispered at each other a bit more until they both were ready to determine what to do with Johnny. Johnny waited patiently and nervously.
"We believe your story. We shall continue our journey to find the way out of this place." Said Dakota
"Really?" Said Johnny with a sigh of relief
"Yes, but I will be keeping the copy sheet on how to get out of this place. As we are showing you that we are building trust in you, you must show me that you trust us as well in order for this newly acquired friendship to work out." Said Dakota
Johnny kept a certain copy of that paper with him at all times. He didn't want to lose it since he knew once it's gone, he would be stuck here forever, but he also worried what if they took the copy and left him here. They did rob him at the beginning. He then remembered how Dakota stood up for him last night. He could've turned him over to the slaughs easily and gotten some reward out of it. Furthermore, he also put his identity in jeopardy. They now know that he is also a living person as he is.
Even when they all had a bad start, Dakota wasn't as terrible as he was depicted as in TV shows or movies. Pine is also not as bad as she appears. So he decided that he would be trusting them. He pulled the folded copy out of his pocket and handed it over to Dakota.
Dakota grabbed the copy, hid it in his secret pocket in his vest, and smiled.
"Now let's go buy some supplies and eat! ." Said Dakota
"But before that, we need disguises and need to hide anything that has value just in case someone finds the vardo and steals from it," Said Pine.
Dakota and Johnny agreed.
Pine shape-shifted into an old man, she cut out three holes from a potato sack and gave it to Johnny to wear. Dakota opened a wooden chest and put on a beard over his skull mask. Johnny grabbed the copy pages and CD player. They gave him a bag to store them in. He will be carrying it when they enter the town. Pine grabbed her precious banjo and a shotgun. Dakota grabbed his guns, put it on his host, and gave the extra gun to Johnny to carry. They left everything else, since those items can be easily replaced.
Pine also parked the vardo in a blind spot, and the boys covered it with tree branches.
When they were sure that it wouldn't be found, they all headed to town.
Dakota and Pine's first plan is decided to separate and pretend they don't know each other. Dakota will be getting supplies, and Johnny, and Pine will be pickpocketing the town folks for their jewels or anything else of value. They were running out of money and needed it for their future journeys.
They agreed that they would meet each other at a restaurant. She will be wearing a different disguise to remove any suspicion.
When the supplies were purchased, Dakota and Johnny carried them and entered the restaurant. Pine met them twenty minutes after.
They ate, and no one bothered them or said anything. The day has been going smoothly so far. Dakota discusses how he and Johnny will be fixing the vardo all day and night, and after that, they will be planning to leave for their new journey to find the way out.
When they finished eating and drinking, they headed out.
They slowly walked back, sluggish since they were all full.
Johnny took the potato sack out of his when no one else was in the trail they were heading. Pine shape-shifts herself again.
Just when they were nearby, they saw smoke at the same direction as they were heading. They hurried to the vardo, and it was on fire. Pine dropped all the supplies out of shock. Dakota started cursing the individual who set the vardo on fire, threw the items and started kicking it.
"It's not very gentlemanly to cuss in front of a lady and a boy," Said Emrys, revealing himself.
Johnny was terrified to see Emrys as equally he has seen the slaughs. Emrys locked eyes with Johnny.
"Johnny, I'm not here to cause you harm or to frighten you. I'm here to help you. You should not trust these individuals who purposely drag you into even more dangerous situations. Come with me, and we shall figure out any problem that you are having." Said Emrys
"How do you know my name and why you burn their car?" Asked Johnny not believing any word that Emrys said
"I have your identification, clothing and blue bag. Burning this transportation is necessary just in case these individuals make things a bit more difficult," Said Emrys, showing the bag.
"No, thanks, I'm going with them." Replied Johnny
"I'm afraid you don't have that option." Said Emrys with glowing red eyes
