The air was filled with cigar smoke and the faint sweet smell of alcoholic drinks. The sound of slot machines and roulette wheels almost drowned out the classical music being performed by some musicians in the center of the colossal establishment.
The lady who created the group presented them with a silver platter where they had nine crystalline casino chips.
"As compensation for the misunderstanding up on the surface. Show these to any bartender and you won’t have to pay a dime." the lady spoke, a new yorker accent breaking through.
Each one of them picked up a chip before walking out of the elevator. William huddled up to the group and started giving out orders.
"Now, remember we are here to find out any information on the distributes of the angel eyes." William said.
He then handed each one of the students and Sara a wallet, each with a credit card and a pin number.
"When did you get this rich?" Sara asked.
"Oh, these aren’t mine." William stated a matter of factually.
"You kleptomaniac." Sara thought.
"Now gamble, chat, drink or hell even fight them for it. But just try to find out anything about what the hand is doing here and who the mole could be." William told them.
"How do we even know they are here?" Hector asked.
"We don’t. However, this place is a goldmine for information and smugglers. Simply since this place has tight security and its only rule is no killing. Anyone who breaks that rule will be forced to swim back up."
"So, if we don’t find who it is we are looking for maybe we can get their name or simply anything." he continued.
"But this also is somewhat of a once in a lifetime experience for you lot. So, try to have some fun too." William told them.
"Oh, and a bit of a tip." William added.
"Down here you don’t necessarily have to bet over money. You can use anything. Tasks, property, souls and even information." William told them.
Jimmy opened up the wallet he was gifted and counted the money.
"Well mister... Richardson, CEO of Baskerville economics. It seems your donation of 30k USD will be very appreciated." Jimmy said as he started to walk out into the sea of roulette tables.
Amelia followed him slowly after him. They glanced towards tables with players dressed in clothes and accessories that stood out from the rest. They circulated these different tables like animals stalking their prey. Almost as if they had done something like this before.
Abigail followed Nicholas who was heading the other way.
"Well, I'll be heading towards the bar. Hopefully get some information from some drunk." William said as he turned towards the bar located more to the right side of the elevator they took.
Sara sighed before looking towards the remaining students.
"Anything happens, signal me." she said before storming off after William.
Sara moved through the sea of people following Willaims path. One hand on the plastic toy sword she had hidden under her suit.
Whilst they walked past the heavy crowds, she saw William’s hand slip from pocket to pocket picking up trinkets and wallets from any he could get to.
It looked quite odd. His hand looked like it was moving on its own.
Once they eventually got to the bar William’s suit pockets was visibly expanding from the amount of stuff he had pick pocketed.
"Are you serious? This isn’t some time to get drunk." She hissed at him.
"Calm down." Willaim said.
"I know the stakes of this mission and that’s exactly why I'm here." William said, before getting closer to her.
"Rumor has it that one of the beholders scouts are hiding down here." William whispered.
Saras eyes widened.
"I thought you were trying to stay hidden from those people for now. Especially the beholders." Sara asked.
"I'm trying to keep it a secret from the students, and you are right. I am trying to stay under the beholders gaze, but this one is special." William whispered back.
"You see, according to the rumors, the agent appears to be a certain web designer." William told her.
Sara backed away a step.
"No way!" she exclaimed, a hint of excitement on her lips.
Her excitement caused the near customers to stare. She simply smiled awkwardly and shrugged, before taking the seat next to William.
"Oscar?" she asked.
"Oscar." William affirmed.
"I didn’t think I would hear his name again after the stunt back in 2012." Sara laughed.
"Me neither, but apparently he has been keeping himself hidden down here. If the rumors, I gathered, are true." William said.
"So how do we get to him?" Sara asked.
"Thats the thing. He comes to us. Just watch." Willaim said, wearing a smug grin.
William turned to the bartender, an older man maybe in his early fifties patches of gray starting to break through in his brown straight hair.
"Hey, can I get a flattering scent?" Willia asked.
The bartender quickly looked around before nodding.
"Oh, and can you add something?" William asked before the bartender left.
The man stopped for a second, looking at him expectingly.
"Tell them that Kruger is asking." William said.
"Alright sir." the bartender said before walking into a door behind the bar counter.
After a couple of minutes two figures stepped out of the door. One being a tall and elegant lady. Sputtering ginger hair flowing down her back. Her golden dress glimmered with each step she took.
Slightly behind the lady limped a man. Brown disheveled hair along with tired hazel eyes darted around. The man was dressed in a stained white shirt and jeans with only one pant leg. Standing out equally as much as the lady, but in the entirely wrong way.
The man held on to a crutch as he jumped out behind the counter revealing he was missing his right leg.
"Well, well, well. If it isn’t the two leg snatchers." the disheveled man said with a laugh as he jumped forward embracing William with a hug.
"Oscar!" William exclaimed hugging his old acquaintance.
As they let go Willaim quickly faced the lady, their blue eyes meeting as he gave a very fake bow.
"Marie Allard." William said, putting on a very heavy French accent.
"Kruger." Marie said with a smile.
Maries eyes quickly turned to Saras.
"Oh, and if it isn't lady Daganan." Marie said, her voice full of excitement.
"Been a while Marie." Sara said smiling.
"Indeed, it has." Marie smiled.
"Now, I think it would be better if we took our business to a more 'private' area." Marie said, leading them away from the bar.
Whilst William and Sara went to get back with some old friends Hector and Nadia had only been nervously following Ophelia who walked with curiosity in her eyes.
"I never thought I would be able to visit this place." Ophelia proclaimed.
"Me neither." Hector said, a bit less enthusiastic.
"Not much of a gambler, I take it." Nadia joked.
"Usually, I was the one people were betting on. Not vice versa." Hector said.
Nadia gave him a confused look.
Hector sighed and said.
"My father never thought I was good enough when I was fighting. SO, he thought more underground matches, those no rules kind of matches, were supposed to toughen me up."
"And eventually people started betting my matches." he explained.
"Damn." Nadia responded, causing Hector to snicker.
"That sums it up pretty good."
Whilst the two were talking they hadn’t realized Ophelia had walked into a VIP lounge. One clearly reserved for more "influential" families.
"Well, there goes our second guide to places like these." Nadia said.
"I mean why don’t we just set around a table and try finding stuff out ourselves." Hector suggested.
"We could, but we don’t know anything about what type of person we are looking for. Also, I don’t know about you, but I don’t know poker, nor have I ever tried any of these sorts of games in my life." Nadia responded.
"True. Last time I tried poker I almost lost half of what I owned. So probably no luck there." Hector replied.
Nadia turned her gaze over the ever expanding casino. Calling it a just a casino, however, felt almost like an insult. It was almost like a small town. Bars and restaurants littered the empty spaces. Some places had rooms for overnight stays and there was even a gift shop.
As she looked around, however, her eyes fell on one thing.
"Hector, you said people used to bet on your fighting, correct?" Nadia asked, still looking away from him.
"Yeah." Hector responded.
"Well, I think we might use that talent of yours." Nadia said, pointing towards something a bit away from them.
Looking in the direction, Hector could see a small octagon cage inside a very hollowed out building. People were surrounding it yelling whilst two people were fighting.
"Of course." Hector sighed.
