Every muscle inside Aster's body was screaming for him to stop moving. With each inhale, it felt like a knife jabbed repeatedly into his heart. Why does it feel like we've been here for a fucking eternity? he thought, trying to ignore the pain that was gradually spreading to other parts of his body.
Null eyes darted over to Aster, knowing he was struggling to keep up despite him supporting Aster along the way as they moved through the hallway. "You know, if you ever feel like fainting, I could carry you bridal-style," he teased, knowing that was the last thing Aster wanted.
Aster's eyebrows lowered in irritation. "Yeah, right, and even if that was the case, I wouldn't trust you to do it," he pointed out, causing Null to chuckle in response.
"Oh, yeah?" Null said, while a wide grin spread across his face. "That's funny coming from the guy whose life I saved not that long ago. Still don't trust me? I guess it would've been better if I trusted you back there. At least we would've had a fast death," he mocked.
Aster gritted his teeth, trying to distract his mind from Null's annoying ass comment that he couldn't counter. "So, how much longer until we reach the landing dock?" he asked.
"Unfortunately, we still have some ways to go before we get there," Null explained as he stopped in his tracks once they reached another room. He let go of Aster for a moment and peered around the wall. He clicked his tongue in annoyance when the room was littered with prison guards.
"I should've known those two would've been a damn problem," he said, referring to Irene and Brett.
Aster walked closer and looked over Null's shoulder. His eyes widened when he saw the number of prison guards scattered across the room. "What now? It isn't like we can just head back the way we came since it probably filled up with prison guards by now. We also don't have any weapons either," he brought up, trying not to freak out at their current predicament.
"Looks like we have no other choice," Null stated as he stretched the muscles in his arms and legs. "We'll just have to break through," he said with a wild look in his eyes, leaving Aster in disbelief.
"Are you fucking insane! We barely made it out of the last fight alive and..." Aster complained while clenching his hands into fists. He quieted down and tried to reach out to stop Null, but he ignored him and walked into the room anyway.
"Does the Warden really believe that this will end up stopping us? He must be drinking too fucking much lately to think that," Null mocked, causing all the prison guards in the room to aim their weapons at him.
Aster's eyes widened. He can't be serious right now! he thought to himself as he watched on in horror.
Click! Click! Click!
Aster's breath got stuck in his throat when multiple heavy footsteps were approaching behind him. A shaky breath escaped him when he heard the shifting sound of someone placing their finger against a trigger belonging to a gun.
"We've been ordered to eliminate you and your little friend on sight!' the prison guard roared and pulled the trigger.
Bang!
Aster tumbled into the room by putting too much pressure on his wounded leg, but it allowed him to dodge the bullet with ease. "We got a problem, Null!" he shouted, causing Null to look back at him.
"Reinforcements, huh? What? You scared?" Null mocked with a crazed grin. He cracked his knuckles and took one step back. He crouched down and used the strength in his legs to propel himself forward in a rush.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Aster used his arms to shield his eyes from the flashes of every gun going off in the room. He rose to his feet with a look of shock.
Null was swiftly twisting and moving his body around to avoid each bullet that whizzed past him. He continued moving toward one of the prison guards while moving cautiously, looking like he was enjoying his time dancing around their attacks.
Aster rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand, unable to comprehend how Null managed to prevent a single bullet from grazing his skin. I can't just stand here; I have to do something as well, he thought. He bolted forward while most of the gunfire was directed at Null.
"Impossible!" the prison guard barked. He shot his gun multiple times only to ground his teeth when Null dodged each one. The man's eyes widened when Null closed the distance between them. A pained groan left the man's lips when Null's uppercut connected underneath his chin.
Aster took a deep breath before jumping up and gripping onto the railing above. He used the strength in his whole body to get himself onto the top platform, careful not to worsen his injuries.
Aster's eyes widened when a prison guard noticed him right away and turned his attack away from Null and toward him.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Aster charged forward, hearing the bullets sink into the wall behind him. He quickly dove toward the ground to hide behind a wall. How the hell am I going to beat this guy? If I close the distance, he'll fill me up with bullets, he contemplated while looking at the ground. A wide grin painted itself on his face when a crazy idea crept into his mind when he looked at the black shoes he was wearing.
Aster swiftly moved around the corner from the wall he was hiding behind. His eyes locked on the man, who immediately started shooting bullets at him again. He ran closer to the man, but as he got closer, he reeled his hand back. He launched both of his shoes at the man, catching him off guard.
Bang! Bang!
"Looks like you hit the wrong target," Aster stated before he swept the man's leg, causing him to shoot up at the ceiling by accident. With a harsh punch to the face, he was able to knock the man out.
Aster leaned over the railing and took aim. He placed his finger against the trigger before pulling it.
Bang!
Surprise appeared on Null's face when the man he was fist fighting cried out in pain when he got struck in the shoulder by a bullet, allowing Null to kick him in the stomach and steal his gun. "Thanks for the weapon," Null stated with a grin.
"Null, take this!" Aster shouted before throwing the gun he was holding at Null. He soon ducked behind the wall when bullets were sent his way.
A chuckle left Null's lips. He ran forward and jumped to grab the gun Aster had tossed him. "I'm starting to like you a whole lot," he claimed, holding both guns in his hands.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Null spun in a circle, shooting in every direction possible, catching all of the prison guards off guard.
"Retreat before you get hit!" a prison guard screamed out, causing the rest to move out of Null's line of fire immediately.
Aster jumped off the top platform, careful to use his arms to help him down instead of relying on his legs fully. "Now's our time to get out of here! This way!" he yelled, cupping his hands over his mouth.
After shooting a couple more rounds, Null stopped and headed in Aster's direction. Once they were in the hallway, Aster clicked a button to close the door. "Who knew you would actually be useful," Null teased while handing Aster the other gun he had.
Aster's eyebrow twitched. A big frown formed on his face. "I'm going to pretend that was a compliment," he grumbled while snatching the gun away from Null.
"Looks like the landing dock is just up ahead. But I'm sure there'll still be problems once we get there," Null stated with a sigh.
"Yeah, but it'll still be a lot better than being in here," Aster replied as the two of them continued down the hallway. He sucked in a deep breath of fresh air when they entered outside.
"Looks like the spacecrafts are just up ahead..." Null mentioned before he pushed Aster aside.
A surprised yelp escaped Aster when he collided with a nearby wall. "What the hell was that for?" he yelled before he paused. Null had his gun aimed at a man with long brown hair and kind green eyes.
"Who the hell are you, and don't think you can stop us!" Null stated and refused to stop aiming his gun at the man.
The man held his arms up in surrender, trembling from having a lethal weapon pointed at him. "Please, I'm not here to stop you. I'm only visiting my brother and got lost along the way," the man explained.
"You honestly expect me to believe that? I'm sorry, but I'm not going to take my chances," Null said as he slowly started to pull the trigger, only to pause when Aster yelled at him.
"Null, don't shoot him! That guy's the prince of the nearby planet in charge of this prison. Prince Carter!" Aster shouted. Killing the prince would be the worst possible decision they could possibly make.
