In the church, Select, Maxine, and Kate entered in search of that magical book.
“It must be here somewhere…”
They had taken advantage of the night to enter, thus avoiding any potential public.
“Well, well, look who we have here.”
Freya was standing behind them, with a malicious smile on her face.
“It’s the unbearable women again,” Select retorted.
“Shut up!” Freya protested.
“We’re going to find the book first, Freya.”
“Are you referring to this book?” She held the spellbook in her hand.
“Damn! How is this possible?” Select wondered.
“I have always had it, I awakened the Horseman to seek revenge, to rid this land of impure thoughts. Cleansing.”
“Have you escaped from Arkham Asylum or something?” Select ridiculed.
“It doesn’t matter, I brought you where I wanted you.”
The Horseman appeared through the window, with his sword drawn.
“I will remove you from my way… But first, I need your help, Max. I must break the bond of the Horseman with Sleepy Hollow, so he can be freed. Unfortunately, I do not know magic to do this.”
“So that you can ‘cure’ me again later? No thanks, I’m not helping you.”
“If you don’t, I will kill your friends!”
Maxine looked at Select and Kate.
“Fine, fine. I’ll do it.”
Maxine approached Freya, and when she was close, she made a hole in the ground.
“The tunnels, get out of here!” Maxine shouted. “I’ll take care of Freya.”
Select and Kate took off, leaving Freya and the Horseman in shock.
“Go after them, Horseman!”
“Yes…” he replied irritably.
Once inside the tunnels, they passed by several knick-knacks and objects belonging to Ichabod, until Select stopped in front of one.
“Come with daddy,” he said, picking up a sword.
“Do you really think that’s going to do anything?”
“Well… it might.”
The sounds of the Horseman indicated he was getting closer, so Select and Kate continued their escape.
“Before, you were perfect,” Freya commented.
“No, I used to live unhappily. But you never accepted that.”
“I wanted to help you, make you a normal child, like everyone else.”
“No, you wanted me to be as you always imagined, but you never truly cared about me!”
Freya picked up a saber that Charles was holding.
“I’m going to make you normal, Max.”
Maxine didn’t know which spell to use, but she knew her blood was boiling.
“I’ve always wanted to do this, Freya.”
Freya attacked, but Maxine quickly dodged and pushed Freya away.
“Why did you have to break my heart like this, Max?”
“You broke mine, until I stopped caring about your opinion, until you died in my eyes!”
She wanted to kill her, end her life. Anger consumed her. But did she want to dirty her hands for someone like this?
A moment of distraction caused the saber to scratch her, drawing a little blood.
“Accept your punishment, let God forgive your sins.”
“And you? Who will forgive you?” Maxine responded.
Select and Kate zigzagged non-stop, with the Horseman hot on their heels.
“Any plan?” Kate asked.
“Well, not really!”
The Horseman threw his pumpkin, to which Select and Kate ducked and dodged the blow.
Another pumpkin appeared in the Horseman’s hand, and he placed it on his head.
Maxine dodged and fought, but Freya was good at battling.
“Let me help you, Maxine!”
“I DON’T WANT YOUR HELP!”
Anger caused a spell to burst out of Maxine, pushing Freya, who hit the wall.
“You know what? I wanted to kill you, end you. But it’s not worth it. I shouldn’t become a monster because of other.”
Freya stared, frightened.
With the book in her hands, Freya shouted, “Horseman, come here, get Maxine!” Then, she ran for the hole.
“Coward!” Maxine shouted.
Charles ran after her, looking at Maxine.
“Good luck, I hope you overcome it,” he said.
Maxine felt sorry for the boy.
The Horseman stopped chasing them.
“Shit, Maxine!”
“I’m going to help her, Select,” Kate ran after the monster.
Select moved forward slowly, until Freya appeared in front of him.
“Freya…”
“Select… You… You did that to my little one! I have to heal him!”
“You disgust me, Freya. How can you think like that about your daughter? How can someone so cruel and terrible have such a good daughter like her?”
“Enough, don’t speak like that about him!”
“I’m not going to make any jokes now, or any irony, because Maxine is a wonderful person and she doesn’t deserve someone like you. So…
When the most famous stories and artifacts prove to be true, an ironic archaeologist with a lot of luck will have to face formidable enemies who want to use them for their plans.
From Excalibur to passing through Sleepy Hollow, the dangers will not end for Select and company.
