Black Dahlia's and Mountain Rose

Sorrow

Sorrow

Oct 23, 2024

Years passed and Fiore sat at her desk, disappointment written on her face as she read a letter. "What's wrong Lady Fiore,". Fiore looked at her assistant and smiled, "Nothing, just the same thing over and over. And as a reminder, when a letter with this name appears, send the gift back". The assistant bowed, "Of course My Lady". Fiore stood from her desk and finally made it to the center of her town. She was surprised how much it had grown in size in the last three years, from a tiny village growing to the size of a small kingdom.
She got into a wide stance and created a mana circle as big as her kingdom, her runes digging themselves into the ground. She then placed her palms in front of her chest and lifted them above her head. The people immediately felt movement beneath their feet. Fiore concentrated on moving forward as she felt the ground below, crushing and molding all that she saw in her way. She continued as she saw her mother's tree and finally, she positioned her kingdom.
It levitated from above, her strength waning with each passing second. Fiore struggled to keep it in position before she could gently lower everyone. She could feel the sweat on her brow and the tendons in her arms tearing as she lowered the mass softly while mixing the soil below. The mana circle then disappeared and Fiore collapsed, her right arm fell off of her shoulder, and the townspeople scurried to the Celestial as they tried to stop the bleeding. Fiore laughed as she shouted, "I did it, I thought it was too soon, but it's done!". She then turned to her people smiling at them, "You all worry too much, look at this,", she said as she stood, tendons, veins, muscle, and skin stretched out, growing into a new appendage. It was pristine and sturdier than that pile of flesh on the ground, a miracle before their very eyes. The townspeople were amazed and cheered at their powerful Celestial.

Everyone then dispersed to finish the preparations for the Flower Festival. Fiore was still covered in sweat and blood as she walked back to her office and stared from the outside. She remembered it used to be a tent, but now, everywhere she looked, there were more brick homes and paved roads. The entire point was to look stable, and she felt she was achieving it. Just one more thing was in order, and she would finally be able to venture out with her beloved Faris.
Fiore entered her office and met her father sitting by her desk, and Nyssa immediately jumped back, "You have to stop coming back to me all bloody, Fiore. I'm getting old you know". she hugged and sat next to him. "What's wrong father you seem tired...are you still receiving those letters again". Nyssa sighed, "After rejecting and rejecting, they just don't let up. Do you know how many marriage proposals I had to reply to this morning, ninety-nine in total. Kings, Queens, Emporers, Dukes, Marquesates, wealthy merchants, on and on...why can't we just say you're engaged already". Fiore looked longingly at a flower on her desk, "I wish I could tell the world, but he hasn't officially proposed yet, he said he needed something grand for the occasion".
Nyssa looked at his daughter and saw she had grown into a lovely woman, but there was still an anxious pit in her stomach as he saw those letters. One stood out, a marriage proposal from the Empire of Time. Nyssa remembered Fiore telling him about the incident and how she became angry on his and Faris's behalf. He understood her plight, but he felt it was too easy to get away from such a powerful entity. Nyssa shook his worry away as he thought about his daughter, she was powerful as well and he could never imagine her being beaten. "Fiore, I think you've grown more muscular recently".
"You think so? I feel like it suits me".
"I'm actually more surprised how tall you've grown, six feet? You got that from your mother".
Fiore laughed at the comment, but her mind went towards Faris, it had been almost a year since she last saw him. She worried for him.

As night came, the trees lit up the streets in a warm glow, the people admiring the new addition to the towns. Fiore walked to the edge of town as she usually did, darkness surrounding her. She felt like if she waited there, Faris would appear. She closed her eyes and pleaded with the stars to bring him back, then, a sound came from beyond the darkness, a figure slowly walking towards her. For a second she cracked a smile but soon grimaced as she lit up the forest beyond and caught the trespasser. Her fierce look turned to confusion and then horror as she saw Caleb appear, holding a bloody Faris. Her breathing became erratic as she didn't see him move, she quickly created a mana circle but stopped when she saw Zarvan appear from the shadows. "What did you do to him!", she screamed in desperation.
"I found him on the side of the road and just wanted to return a corpse to you", Fiore saw as Caleb threw Faris's body to her. She caught him as gently as she could, blood splattering onto her clothes. Her head was in disarray but she was brought back as she saw a bit of life still in him, she thought of taking him to the tree but she was stuck to the ground. "Noticed it didn't you? I needed to do this or else you wouldn't listen to me. I came to offer you a deal Fiore: Marry me, vow to never hurt me as long as we are under the vastness of the and I will save him".
She could feel her heart beating in her ears, and then a voice called out. "Fiore, where are you?!", Nyssa yelled desperately as he heard his daughter scream and Zarvan held out his hand towards Nyssa. She looked at Zarvan afraid he might hurt her father "Please wait... ", fear made her hesitate as she saw a glimpse of her father and back at an injured Faris, she could see his life fading, and it was almost gone. "Answer me! I have a winning hand and I intend to use it", Zarvan yelled.
Fiore drowned out all the noise and gave in, her voice in a whisper, "I... promise", she said as tears fell down her cheeks. The promise was made and the circle she was bound to, glowed white, words now imprinted on her body. Zarvan gave a somber smile and walked to the dying man, "Honestly, I would have hoped there was another way than to be stuck with him".  Zarvan cut his wrist and let his blood trickle into Faris's mouth, as Fiore saw this, she became angry at the revelation, "Is this how the automatic Golem is made!?". Zarvan laughed, "You are only seeing part of it, what you didn't see is him agreeing to all this".
Fiore felt like her veins were going to burst, but her anger became worried as Faris began to contort in pain. His eyes rolled to the back of his head, convulsing, he scratched at his chest until he tore his shirt, and the Celestial of Times symbol was burned into his skin: A circle with a white right side and black left side. Faris's face was contorted in pain, but no noise came out of his mouth. Fiore held him tightly in his arms and she could feel the moment his heart stopped beating. He felt colder to the touch the longer she held on, as she parted to look at him, the changes were immediate: His one brown wavey hair was now black, his rough skin became untouched by scars, his body felt sturdier, and as he opened his eyes his once vibrant amber irises turned pale almost as if there was a film over them.

Faris felt like he was out of breath, his body was in the most horrid of pain, but it was like his body was energized. His vision was blurred at first, but it became clearer every second he blinked, and, the first thing he saw was his lovely Fiore holding him, her face drenched in tears. He went to caress her cheek but he was abruptly grabbed and thrown away. He quickly recovered and stood to see who it was, his eyes going wide. Zarvan grabbed Fiore's shoulder and picked her up from the ground, he smiled as he greeted him, "I honestly didn't think you would survive the transformation, but even if this is bittersweet, I will take the hand I am dealt. I congratulate you on your rebirth and now christen you as Saint Faris. Please meet my fiance and your new mistress The Celestial of nature, Fiore, soon to be Monarch of the Kingdom of Roses.
Faris looked on in defeat, but he felt the worst was yet to come. Fiore began to reach out to him, and he could feel Zarvans voice to lure him into a state of docility, "Faris, as your first order", Faris then felt his heart break completely at he was about to do, "Kill Nyssa".

Fiore felt her body freeze as the sheer speed of everything happened, Faris was gone in one second, and in the next, he was in front of her with her father's body in hand. She felt like she couldn't feel anything as she looked at her father, he almost looked like he was sleeping, part of her was glad he looked so peaceful. She collapsed to the ground and saw Zarvan mouth something to Caleb, Caleb nodded, and he sped away, within seconds screams could be heard from the town. Zarvan stood by Fiore as he reveled in it all as he whispered, "I'm the only thing you have left no, my dearest Fiore".
Why couldn't she move, she had to move, but...she had lost everything, she felt like she lost the strength to fight. The towns were set ablaze and through it all she the people running in panic. The view became more open as more buildings fell and she could someone see her mother's tree. It looked brighter than before, she could see how the roots flowed out to reach the people on the ground, healing what they could but they continued to get injured. Fiore saw her mother standing there, judging her, disappointed at what she had become, holding so much power yet giving up so easily. However, she then felt the coldest touch on her hand.
Faris was crying next to her, and she felt like she could move again. She knew she depleted all her energy earlier that day and all around her were things she had grown, so she asked Faris for a favor. "Faris, my beloved Faris, I need you to let me each part of you". Zarvan heard the exchange, but before he could react, Faris nodded and Fiore bit into his arm, her teeth violently ripping down to the bone. She felt herself energized as she stood and ran into the town. Zarvan could only stand at a distance as the carnage went on and Faris questioned him, "Is this where you draw the line?", he scoffed. Zarvan kept a stoic face as he, "I promised you I wouldn't harm this place, and if that promise is broken in any way while I am here, you will no longer need to obey me". Faris looked on as he saw Fiore go against Caleb, stopping him in his tracks.

Caleb felt his legs become rooted to the floor, then his body swung into the air like a rag doll until he cut himself free. He saw Fiore coming towards him, but he couldn't help but see his daughter. He tried to decimate and cut down everything in his path before he was finally caught. Fiore came face to face with a man she remembered from childhood who she thought was just trying to protect a child, "Why do all this Caleb, why follow with no hesitation?", she asked out of genuine shock. Caleb could only smile and answered honestly, "I guess I just can't help but spoil my child. I even threw your pet off a cliff for this chance". As Fiore heard the last word exit his mouth Fiore crushed the Saint into a pulp, her mind going into a rage. "What was this all for?! What a stupid reason, I wish you would all just leave us alone! Why. Why, Why was I even born like this?!", she dropped to her knees and banked on the ground, creating an earthquake throughout the town. She cured the very earth and Zarvan as he stood watch. he smiled as the ground swallowed everyone left, leaving a clean slate.
