The private jet smoothly touched down, landing gracefully.
Renault stood up from his seat in the first-class cabin, scanning the surroundings as he grabbed his carry-on luggage.
"Renault, we've landed safely. I'll be accompanying you today. You haven't contacted your family in a long time, right? Let's get this over with!"
Su Xiao helped Renault straighten his clothes, her flirtatious tone soft and sultry as she whispered by his ear.
Renault's eyes lingered for a moment on the flight attendant's badge, where the name “Su Xiao” was inscribed. He smiled slightly as he adjusted his collar.
"Relax, sweetheart, I’ll handle things quickly and get in touch with you later!"
Renault didn’t want to burden Su Xiao with news of the impending apocalypse. After all, she had no idea that the end of the world was just ten days away.
He decided to go through with the formalities of inheritance without worrying her about the disaster that was soon to come.
"...Goodbye for now."
...
In a luxurious villa in Xi’an, Renault stepped through the doors, entering a large living room where six or seven people were already seated.
Among them was Xiao Ren, his younger brother, who barely acknowledged his arrival. Xiao Ren’s cold indifference was clear — he didn’t even greet Renault, as though they were sworn enemies.
"Renault, you're here. Have a seat, the lawyer will start the reading of the will shortly!"
One of the family friends, Wang Jian, waved Renault over. He spoke kindly but with a hint of restraint, trying to maintain the air of civility despite the tension in the room.
Renault didn’t bother with small talk and instead turned directly to the lawyer. "Mr. Chen, can we proceed with reading the will now?"
The lawyer, Mr. Chen, nodded, then glanced at the rest of the room. Turning to Xiao Ren, he explained, "As per the last will and testament of Chairman Xiao Feng, the assets will be divided as follows:
Renault will inherit the shares in the company, while Xiao Ren will inherit the family estate and the savings of 2 billion yuan."
Renault raised his eyebrows, but he remained calm, suppressing his emotions. The inheritance decision didn’t surprise him. He had expected as much, given his father's intent for him to run the company.
Xiao Ren, on the other hand, was visibly shocked. His eyes widened, and even Wang Jian, who had been sitting quietly, frowned deeply.
"Mr. Chen, there must be some mistake here!" Xiao Ren’s mother, Lin Li, immediately protested, her voice sharp and demanding.
Mr. Chen remained calm and professional, laying out the documents and the recorded video testimony of the will on the table.
"This is the official will, authenticated and signed in front of witnesses," he said, pointing at the paperwork. "Everything is in order. Please review it if you wish."
Lin Li hurriedly grabbed the documents, reading through them with increasing frustration. She then played the video testimony, but when it ended, she sat back, deflated.
"There must be a mistake! The company shares are worth 20 billion! Why should Renault get all of them?" Xiao Ren, who had been sitting quietly, finally spoke up, anger rising in his voice. He glared at Renault, his eyes filled with envy and resentment.
The rest of the room fell silent as Xiao Ren struggled to comprehend the decision. His inheritance of the mansion and 2 billion yuan seemed insignificant compared to the massive company shares his brother was receiving.
Renault met his brother’s glare, smirking coldly. "The will has been read. Everything is legitimate. No further discussion is needed."
Mr. Chen, the lawyer, interjected, "The will is clear. I will now proceed with the legal transfer of the assets."
However, Wang Jian quickly stepped forward, trying to mediate. "Wait, wait, Mr. Chen, isn’t there room for negotiation? After all, this is a family matter. The company is enormous, and Renault should take time to familiarize himself with the business before taking full control. Perhaps he could work together with his younger brother for a smooth transition?"
Renault turned and glanced at Wang Jian with cold indifference. He knew that Wang Jian was trying to manipulate the situation for his own gain.
Wang Jian, along with Xiao Ren and Lin Li, had always planned to contest the will, hoping to weaken Renault's position. Now, they were scrambling to find a way to seize control.
But Renault wasn’t going to let that happen. He leaned forward slightly, locking eyes with his brother. "Tell me, Xiao Ren, are you really dissatisfied with this arrangement? What is it you’re truly after?"
Xiao Ren’s face flushed with anger, but his mother, Lin Li, quickly interrupted, "Renault, why don’t we make a deal? We can come to an agreement that benefits everyone!"
Renault let out a dry laugh. "Alright, here’s my condition. I’ll let you keep the mansion and the savings, but I want an additional 500 million in compensation, along with one of the villas in Purple Bay."
The entire room fell into stunned silence. Xiao Ren clenched his fists as he stood up in outrage. "That’s absurd! Those villas are worth more than the shares!"
Lin Li shot him a look, silencing him instantly.
"Fine, Renault, you’ll get the money and the villa. We’ll sign the agreement immediately." Lin Li reluctantly agreed, although her tone hinted at underlying bitterness.
Renault smiled. He knew they would agree. After all, with the apocalypse fast approaching, none of this would matter soon enough.
In the days to come, money and mansions would become worthless, and survival would depend solely on strength and resources.
The agreement was signed, and the assets were transferred. Renault now had 2 billion in cash and a new villa, along with the company shares.
As the balance flashed on his phone screen, Renault couldn't help but smile.
The apocalypse has arrived and the world is falling apart.
Humanity has valued these documents for decades. Now, it's too late. As the end approaches the world, chaos rages and survival turns into an extraordinary battle to the death.
But someone is ready.
He quietly stockpiled enough supplies to see him through the end. While others fought for food, water, and shelter, he watched from hiding in his fortress, which was stocked with everything he needed for the long journey. Will he really have enough weight when civilization finally collapses?
