"Hmm! The price is quite reasonable!" Renault reviewed the blueprints, feeling satisfied and nodding in approval, while noticing Mu Wanqing smiling slightly.
“How long will the renovations take?” he asked.
“The entire project will take about four months, assuming there are no material or equipment delays,” Mu Zheng explained.
“Four months?! By then, the apocalypse could already be in full swing!” Renault was startled, realizing that in four months, if the world collapsed as predicted, they might all be doomed.
“Is there any way to speed it up?”
Mu Zheng sighed. “I’m afraid that's as fast as we can manage. Even with full efficiency, it's still going to take that long.”
“Forget the price, just get it done. How much more will it cost to expedite it?” Renault pressed.
"Uh... around an additional one million," Mu Zheng replied, taken aback by Renault's insistence.
“Deal!” Renault said without hesitation.
"Got it, Mr. Renault. I assure you, we will meet the deadline!" Mu Zheng, impressed by Renault's decisiveness, immediately began making arrangements to accelerate the construction.
Meanwhile, Mu Wanqing, standing nearby, was left speechless by the exchange.
This man, Renault, seemed to throw money around as if he were picking up spare change from the ground!
“Wanqing, go home and get some rest. I’ll oversee the rest of the construction here,” Mu Zheng said to his sister, noticing how tired she looked after the long planning sessions.
Renault glanced at Mu Wanqing and realized she indeed appeared worn out, her face pale and her eyes showing signs of fatigue.
Despite wanting to earn some money, it was clear that she needed a break.
“Miss Mu, let me have my driver take you home so you can get some rest. With your brother here managing the project, there’s nothing to worry about,” Renault offered politely.
Mu Wanqing hesitated for a moment but saw the sincerity in Renault’s eyes. Eventually, she agreed.
“I appreciate that, Mr. Renault. I’ll rest for now, but I'll be back tomorrow to continue working on the project.”
As she prepared to leave, Mu Wanqing and her brother were caught off guard when they saw Renault carefully carrying a bird’s nest out of the house.
“What… where did you get a bird's nest?” Mu Wanqing asked, perplexed.
“Oh, this? I found it while I was exploring the property. Some of the baby birds were already dead from the cold, but I managed to save a few. I’ve been taking care of them,” Renault explained.
Mu Wanqing's expression softened as she gently stroked one of the chicks. “How pitiful. But... do you really think you can raise birds during the apocalypse?”
“They’re baby crows. A little bad luck never hurt anyone. Besides, they’ll keep me company. I think it’ll be fun,” Renault replied with a smile.
Mu Zheng, watching from the side, shook his head in disbelief. “You should just get rid of them, Renault. These crows won’t bring you anything but misfortune.”
But Mu Wanqing glared at her brother and scolded him, “Why would you throw them away? Renault is trying to do something good, and you want him to just toss them out?”
Renault laughed. “It’s alright. Let’s just say I’m saving them as a favor to the universe.”
After making sure the birds were comfortable, Renault drove Mu Wanqing back to her school, the City Academy of Arts, located just outside the city.
During the drive, Renault learned that Mu Wanqing had recently graduated and was interning at her brother’s construction company.
As they pulled up to the school, the sight of the luxury car and Renault’s confident demeanor caused quite a stir among the students.
“Isn’t that Mu Wanqing from the City Academy? How did she land such a rich guy?”
“What kind of car is that? Some sort of Audi?”
“Are you dumb? That’s a limited-edition Brabus, way more expensive than an Audi.”
“Wow... and here I thought she’d end up with some mediocre guy…”
...
Back in her dormitory, Mu Wanqing tossed and turned, unable to sleep. She kept thinking about Renault and the fact that he was seriously preparing for the apocalypse. Was he really stockpiling survival supplies?
She had originally thought he was just a little obsessed with doomsday survival scenarios, but now she wasn’t so sure. Was he actually planning for the end of the world?
Still, she couldn’t deny that there was something exciting about working on this project. She found herself looking forward to seeing how it would all turn out.
With a smile on her face, Mu Wanqing grabbed a notebook and began sketching out more ideas for the shelter.
...
Meanwhile, Renault was busy driving around the city, heading to a series of warehouses to prepare for his next big task: hoarding supplies.
He had rented several large warehouses and cold storage units to store food, vegetables, and other essentials.
After signing the contracts for the warehouses, Renault felt more confident about his ability to stockpile everything he needed for the apocalypse.
Next, he headed to the city's wholesale markets to start buying in bulk.
At the vegetable market, his arrival caused quite a commotion. People couldn’t believe the sheer amount of produce he was buying.
Carrots, potatoes, pumpkins, cabbages, tomatoes, cucumbers—everything was purchased in enormous quantities, totaling several tons.
By the end of his shopping spree, Renault had spent over 10 million yuan just on vegetables.
But he wasn’t done yet. After settling the payment, he made arrangements for everything to be delivered to his cold storage units.
Next, he turned his attention to spices and seasonings.
Salt, sugar, vinegar, cooking oil, sauces, and more were bought in bulk. He spent another 2 million yuan on these items alone.
Then came the rice and grains.
Renault ordered several hundred tons of rice, totaling around 20 million yuan. The suppliers promised to have it all delivered within the week.
After that, it was time for meat.
At a large butcher’s shop, Renault bought several tons of pork, beef, lamb, and chicken, along with organs like lamb and beef offal.
The butcher, shocked by the order, initially thought Renault was pulling some kind of prank, but after confirming the payment, they realized he was serious.
Once again, another hefty bill—over 30 million yuan in total.
Finally, Renault turned his attention to seafood.
At a high-end seafood market, he bought tons of fresh fish, lobsters, crabs, and other shellfish. The total cost for this batch of goods was another 10 million yuan.
After making arrangements for freezing and storage, Renault tallied his purchases. In just a few hours, he had spent over 100 million yuan on supplies.
Despite the enormous amount of money he had spent, Renault still felt like it wasn’t enough. There were so many more items he needed to buy to fully prepare.
But for now, he was exhausted. He decided it was time to take a break and move the rest of his shopping online.
Thanks to the internet, he could have anything delivered right to his warehouses.
And with that, Renault settled down, opened up his laptop, and began another round of online shopping—this time from the comfort of his home.
The apocalypse has arrived and the world is falling apart.
Humanity has valued these documents for decades. Now, it's too late. As the end approaches the world, chaos rages and survival turns into an extraordinary battle to the death.
But someone is ready.
He quietly stockpiled enough supplies to see him through the end. While others fought for food, water, and shelter, he watched from hiding in his fortress, which was stocked with everything he needed for the long journey. Will he really have enough weight when civilization finally collapses?
