James’ POV
“Are you sure you know what you’re doing,” I asked Peter for what felt like the thousandth time as he ran his fingers through my hair.
“For the last time, yes. It’s going to look fine.” That didn’t make me feel better. I didn’t want fine; I wanted salon quality without the money.
Peter was currently behind me as I sat on one of his barstools in the living room. The smell of chemicals had been overwhelming in the bathroom so we moved out here to finish with the dying process while the bathroom aired out.
This whole thing started out as an accident. After a long ass week, going out seemed like a chore so the three of us decided to hang out at Peter’s this weekend, only leaving for supply runs and work. Peter and I were on a supply run, mostly coming in for pizza rolls and beer when we walked past the hair dye aisle.
‘Bet you won’t do it,’ Peter had said with a teasing smile as he looked at all the colors randomly.
‘And why is that?’
‘Dev likes the natural blonde look too much and has you by the balls. You won’t do shit without asking him first.’ I had scoffed before picking up a random color, not even looking at it before tossing it in the basket.
I didn’t think Peter would make me go along with it until we were in the bathroom with a trash bag draped over my shoulders.
“Just hurry up,” I sighed, my neck straining with the weird angles he was forcing my head into.
“Do you want it fast or good?” I huffed and he chuckled. “It’s done processing anyway. Go take a shower and use a black towel. I don’t want this shit staining any of my good ones.” I vowed in that moment to find a white one he surely had.
A few minutes later my hair was washed and I was looking at myself in the mirror.
My hair was cotton candy purple and Dev was going to kill me.
“Looks good doesn’t it,” Peter said as he stood behind me, looking at it in the mirror as he moved to style my hair oddly.
“Dev is going to kill me,” I told him with a sigh as I hung my head. “Probably you too when he finds out you did it. I’d run if I were you. His parents have a lot of land in the mountains.”
“What happened to not being scared of him?”
“I never said I was scared. I said Dev didn’t control me. And he doesn’t but that doesn’t mean he won’t still retaliate.” Peter shook his head with a smile as he lightly shoved my head away and walked back out towards the living room.
“I think you’re being dramatic. The worst he’s going to do is withhold sex until you dye it back in a few weeks.”
“A few weeks,” I blanched and he laughed harder. “Why a few weeks? It only took an hour to put it on. We can change it back in the same amount of time I’m sure.”
“Doing too much to your hair at once can make it fall out. Speaking personally, I think you look better with purple hair than no hair at all but it’s up to you.”
“I’m not going weeks without sex. You might be able to handle that but I most certainly will not,” I told him as I sat down on the couch beside him.
“You have a right hand. You’ll be fine. Besides, maybe Dev will like it.”
“Dev didn’t like the fact that I changed shampoo without telling him. This is a tad bigger than shampoo.”
“You need to chill. Everything is going to work out just fine,” he said just as the front door opened. My heart sank knowing it was Dev.
He took a quick scan of the room before his eyes fell on me and he frowned. He looked at my hair, then my face, back to my hair, then at my face again.
“What the fuck,” was all he asked with a sigh as slowly walked towards me. His face had lost all expression as he moved and I hated that even after years of dating there were times I didn’t know what he was thinking.
“Do you like it,” I asked as he sat down on my lap and took me by the head, examining my head. He tilted it side to side for a second before humming and running his fingers through it.
“Why,” was all he asked but he never let go.
“Seemed like it would be fun,” I shrugged.
“And purple was the only color they had?”
“It was the best color they had,” I teased, knowing purple was one of his least favorites. I really should have looked at the fucking bottle before getting it.
Dev hummed again before tilting my face up to his. He didn’t look very impressed but didn’t look all that mad either.
“Do you like it?”
“It’s not the worst thing I’ve done,” I shrugged. “Don’t love the color but something else might be fun at some point.”
“Then that’s all the matters,” Dev shrugged before playing with it again. “If you like it then I like it.” I smiled as I leaned into his hand before turning my face to stick my tongue out at Peter.
At some point Peter kicked us out, stating he had a hot guy coming over and didn’t need us ruining the mood. We had both cringed at that before all but running for the door.
On the way back to the apartment, Dev and I tried to figure out what we were going to do for the rest of the weekend now that we’d been kicked out of our normal hangout spot.
“We could just watch movies at home,” I shrugged. “Just have a chill weekend before work tomorrow.” Dev hummed as he took my hand in his as a wicked smile covered his face.
“We could go test out the new hair,” he teased.
“What do you mean test it out? It’s already here to stay for at least a few weeks according to Peter.”
Dev’s smirk only widened as he began leading me to Drake’s club. He hadn’t said a word to me during the walk but the smile on his face didn’t fade despite the amount of questions I was asking.
As we stood in the line to be let in Dev looked over to me before leaning into my ear and whispering.
“How would you feel about finding that third person,” Dev teased as his fingers brushed against my stomach.
We had talked about it more and more since it was first brought up and every time we tried having a serious conversation about it, it almost always ended with sex. Both of us putting scenes into each other’s heads while teasing and fucking so hard the bed threatened to break. It was quickly becoming a fantasy neither of us wanted to give up on.
“Now,” I asked as I looked around at everyone else in line. None of them looked like they swung our way and this came out of nowhere.
“Why not? I’m sure we can find a decent option somewhere. Unless you aren’t ready. We can go home and I can show you that no dick can replace mine or we can watch that movie you were talking about. It’s up to you.”
My heart was beating out of my chest. The idea of a third was hot in theory but now that we were actually talking about doing it, I was nervous. What if the guy was a douchebag? What if he wasn't any good and we wasted our time for nothing? What if outed us after everything was over?
“James,” Dev said as he caught my hands, clearly seeing the spiral I was putting myself in. “We can go home,” he said with a smile as he attempted to pull me out of line. “I shouldn’t have dropped this on you out of nowhere. We should have talked it out and set clear intentions before coming out. Let’s go home.”
I didn’t move despite my heart still not calming down.
“If I color red, or hell even yellow and that guy doesn’t listen, you kick him the hell out,” I said as my hand tightened on his. Dev looked shocked but quickly nodded as he re-joined me in line.
“Of course,” he said as he squeezed my hand tighter. “What else?”
“Only I get to call you Sir. They have to call you Dev and I’m James.” Dev smirked as he leaned into my side.
“Possessive bastard,” he teased but continued to listen to the rules I set in place.
Constant check-ins, plenty of praise on both ends, and we both had to agree on the guy. There were other small rules that we discussed beforehand but these were the main ones we wanted to be on the same page about.
It wasn’t too long before we were allowed inside and began looking for someone who looked like they would be down. We had a few drinks on Drake’s tab and danced a bit to try and scope out who watched and might like to join in.
We were trying to not completely out ourselves but with a random girl between us and a few careful touches, we had eyes on us in minutes. The girl was quickly taken off by some guy who offered to buy her a drink and with a bit more dancing, Dev and I locked eyes with a guy a few minutes later.
He had been watching us since the start and we had thought it was because of the girl but now that she was gone, he stared at us openly, drool all but pooling out of his mouth.
I smirked as I pulled Dev closer, grinding my dick against his leg in time with the music. Dev moaned lowly in my ear before placing a gentle kiss on my neck.
“What do you think,” I whispered as I locked eyes with the guy. He was short but had well-toned arms hidden behind the sleeves of the shirt and I’m sure had the toned abs to match.
“I think he’s watching you like a dog looks at a bone.”
“And that’s a bad thing? I am the treat after all.” Dev scoffed but didn’t stop his hands from climbing up my back, revealing more and more of my skin as he pulled on my shirt.
“I think he’s cute,” Dev said after a few more seconds of looking at him. His hair was brown and he was pale with innocent blue eyes. I looked down at his neck and moaned at the thought of leaving hickeys all over him.
“Just cute?”
“I think he’d look better with your hand around his dick.”
“So is that a yes? It’s only been a few minutes. I’m sure if we wait a bit longer we could find someone else if you aren’t into him.”
“I think his only flaw is that he’s not you,” he said but never ceased his movements.
“Baby if you don’t want to do this we don’t have to,” I said as I forced him to look at me, taking his chin in my hand. “You can have second thoughts. We can go home and try later or never try again. I don’t want us to rush into this, especially if one of us isn’t fully on board.”
“I want this James,” he said, his eyes showing he meant it. “I guess I’m just a little nervous too but as long as you’re there it’ll be okay.” I smiled as I cupped his face.
“So, we know we want to do it. Are we sure we want to do it with him?” Dev’s only response was a smirk as he grabbed my hand and began pulling me off the dance floor towards the man standing in the corner.
