Marilou followed Lilith cautiously, as quiet as the manor in the middle of the night. Her breathing was shaky, and every time she inhaled, her throat was aching her. Her coal coloured hair swung back and forth across her chest.
She didn't know where she was heading, but she didn't care either. Anxiety was piercing through her like a poisonous dagger, anticipation making her breath catch in her throat. Marilou didn't know why she felt this way, but it was like that.
Letting her feet move once at a time, her eyes followed Lilith's moves in front of her. It was her only reference, her only issue. She would've liked to take a break, but she simply couldn't stop.
It was bringing her forwards, catching her like a magnet. The problem was that she didn't have a single clue why. The room where she was heading was giving her the impression of fog, and she felt dizzy, all of a sudden, although she wasn't there just yet.
Blinking once could've gotten her out of her trance, but she didn't feel like doing so. The teenager strolled through the hallways curiously, attracted to the idea of seeing God knows what.
Marilou didn't dare to pronounce a single word. Neither a comment. Her mouth was closed, and even if she would try to speak, her vocal cords seemed inexistent. Around her, the walls were dusty and dark, giving a creepy atmosphere.
The youngest was used to it. Now, she wasn't even scared if she was scary objects, as she lived in the mansion for a few weeks now. A slight breeze was wandering around, a sheepish smile lifting the corner of her lips.
Marilou was as delicate as a porcelain doll, now. Lilith was far ahead, levitating in the void. She didn't recognize what was around her. After visiting the entire manor, Marilou didn't remember passing by this place. Yet she felt strangely familiar with it.
Batting her lashes a few times, Marilou understood how serious this was. It caught her off guard, her knuckles turning white. These hallways were awful, even worse than what she was used to see, casually. Portraits of deceased ones, with hideous descriptions.
The young girl swallowed. Their eyes seemed to follow her every move, yet she simply couldn't look away. This place was sending a shiver along her spine, but she stood still.
Her true soul would've ran away. She didn't feel like it, though. She didn't want to. Marilou didn't think she was supposed to do this, although it was contrary to what she thought.
The hallway seemed endless, and Lilith never stopped. Stumbling through her steps, the young girl tried to catch up to Lilith. The simple fact of realizing the gravity of the situation now was troubling her. Why didn't she realize it earlier? Why didn't she have the control of her body fully, at this point?
She was angry at herself and terrified.
Marilou tried to speak, begging Lilith not to leave her there. Yet she couldn't do it. The reality was hitting her, as she moved her hand towards the unknown, helpless.
The teenager felt her heart beating against her chest, pounding hard, so bad that she could feel it in her brain. Sweat ran down her forehead as she tried to form words. Sentences? But what could she say?
She didn't know whether Lilith felt the same way or that it was all about her and an odd feeling. She didn't know what to think. Or what to do. As her dry throat stopped her from forming words, the girl tried to calm down.
It's all in my head, none of this is true, she tried to convince herself. Convincing herself was a fatal fail. Impossible. She knew it sincerely: all of this was real.
She felt her sweaty hands along her body during her run. Her feet knocking the ground at every step, confidently. Her hair balancing in her face. Most of all, she felt her heart knocking against her chest aggressively.
No doubts, this was a hundred percent real. Those feelings were genuine. But the feeling to be here, alive, wasn't affecting her. Marilou felt alone in the big old world, unknown to her for now.
Yet although Lilith floated in front of her with complete self-control, she couldn't contain her thoughts. Why did she feel this way? A hamster kept on running in her mind, like gears in a machine.
Decided to learn the whole truth, Marilou stopped Lilith by standing in front of her, her fists on her waist. Her shaky breathing made her looking insane, but she didn't even care about it.
- Lilith, where are we going? She questioned with a weak voice, with the feeling she had broken her vocal cords
The spirit raised her invisible brows and scrutinized her, looking critical. We could see in her gaze that she found Marilou pretty stupid. But how could she know? It wasn't her fault she didn't understand!
- In a room. Replied Lilith rudely
- Yes, I know, but what do you want to show me? She insisted, pleading her, ignoring the coldness.
Her interlocutor banged her fist against her forehead, rolling her eyes. Visibly, Lilith's pride was coming over her. Trying to remain calm, she declared:
- You'll see. Stay still if you don't want me to bring your brother instead.
Marilou hesitated to share her thoughts earlier in the corridor. She would sound crazy though, mentioning how she felt like she was being possessed by some odd force. After a while, the youngest replied:
- Oh well. I can wait a few more minutes.
Nodding, Lilith kept on walking, as the girl tossed herself away from her. She didn't want to disturb the ghost, yet she didn't know why she cared so much. Her curiosity was bugging her like an angry bee, when her anticipation was making her feel overwhelmed.
Once again, Marilou stood quiet, following Lilith. Her leather boots were knocking against the ground, as the hallways gave a murky ambiance around them. An horror movie music would've worked in the context, she thought.
Her hair flowing with the slight breeze, Marilou stared at the only reference she had, in front of her. She didn't want to lose herself in that manor. At least not today. She didn't want to die. Not today. It would be way too early for that.
Her teeth began clattering with fear, helpless. It started to become colder, suddenly. The autumn breeze became icy, the windows so demolished that they were all open, leaving place.
Marilou wrapped her arms around her torso, jumping with impatience. Her safety was decreasing every second. Her seconds seemed counted, as if she would have a deadline. Jokes aside.
- After you. Lilith said as she opened the door, leading the way
- Thank you very well, I can go there by myself. She spoke as she entered, watching around
Lilith closed the door after herself, as Marilou scrutinized every detail. There were a few torn apart leather couches, in the middle of the room, accompanied by a wooden table. An old chandelier was hanging against the ceiling, on the verge of falling, with not much electricity, the lights buzzing.
She could distinguish spider webs all around the place, as spiders squealed and moved through the place. Marilou gulped. This wasn't really reassuring. And yet the place attracted her curiosity.
- And...Here's the place I wanted to show you! Lilith exclaimed as she gestured around
- It's beautiful..The young girl muttered after a few seconds, her eyes wide
Lilith nodded her head vigorously, offering a malicious smile to Marilou. The ghost looked like she was hiding something. Her gaze was deep and sparkling, showing interest and mischief.
- Follow me, I have to show you something else.
Tilting her head, Marilou tiptoed, her eyes wide with curiosity as she couldn't help herself from watching around. When Lilith stopped, Marilou's jaw was dropped. A small room, yet so huge, was connected to the other room where they were a few seconds earlier. At the middle, a chair wrapped with plastic was inviting her over, seeming all comfy.
What was different was that there was a happy ambiance. With cotton candy pink banners, a sulfur smell being simply inexistent, replaced by a lilac perfume.
- Come on in! Lilith encouraged, shoving her inside
Bewildered by the place's beauty, the concerned one focused on watching around, ignoring Lilith's words. Hearing the key turn in the lock, Marilou startled.
- Let me go! The teenaged complained as she banged her fist against the wall
- Sorry. Lilith whispered as she dropped a hand on the window, right next to Marilou's, as she looked through her eyes
Desperate, the young girl knocked against the window, until she abandoned. Slowly, her eyelids lowered, her body shaking, attracted to the ground magnetically. Marilou couldn't stand up, so she lied on the floor, before fainting.
She couldn't do anything to help herself.
