Chapter 11.5 - A Letter

“To Andrew,

If you are reading this, something has happened to me.

Firstly, I am sorry for lying to you all these years, I had hoped to keep you from this even if it meant betraying your trust. The situation near the docks is much more dangerous than even I had thought. If it hasn’t stopped by the time you find this, you will need to know the truth for your own protection.

To start with, if she hasn’t found you, find Irene Baxter. I trust her with my life and she will support you with utmost loyalty and strength. Explain to her how you know me, and she can fill in any blanks you may have.

This journal has my latest notes regarding the Burning Shards, or rather, how I was wrong in my original assumptions. It should help to explain some of this, and some of the questions I am sure you have surrounding the Mayweather Estate and myself. If you can find any of my other research, that would help to give you the full picture. Once you are caught up, the most important things you need to know are:

Whatever it is, it's outside of the natural world. There is no cult, no infection. I have yet to discover the details of how, but it seems to target people who are connected to those it has already taken. It has something to do with reflections, although the details of even that elude me. I haven’t been able to prove this, so at the time of my writing this the Estate will still be treating the situation as an infection.

According to the research, malicious forces or entities like this must have a tether, an object or person that allows it to spread here. Assuming I have failed, you must find it, destroy it or bring it to the Estate where they can contain it.

Lastly, the heart shaped gem I have left you is no simple trinket. It will always stay connected to its twin, which is in my possession. So long as you hold it, we are bound together. 

With this, I know that even if the worst has happened, you will find me.
