The sun peeks through the cracks in the hut’s walls as Rim, Zeldre, and Kurt wake up and stretch. Rim, rubbing his eyes, immediately starts thinking about breakfast.
Rim: *“Man, I could really go for some food right now.”*
Kurt: *“We should head to town and find Gatto and Nina. We need to ask them about a few things.”*
Rim: *“Yeah, but I’m starving. Can’t we grab something to eat first?”*
Kurt: *“We can eat with Gatto and Nina too. It’s not like we’re in a rush.”*
Rim: *“But I don’t want to share my food.”*
Zeldre, who’s been quietly listening, raises an eyebrow. *“What’s the big deal? We can just have a meal together.”*
Rim’s eyes light up with a mischievous grin. *“No, we can’t show up looking bad twice. If we look clean and well-fed, they’ll take us more seriously.”*
Zeldre considers this, nodding slowly. *“You’ve got a point. First impressions matter.”*
Kurt chuckles, shaking his head. *“Alright, fine. We’ll grab some food first and then head to town. But don’t get too carried away.”*
Rim grins and quickly heads out to find a good place to eat. Zeldre and Kurt follow, with Zeldre muttering under his breath, *“Only Rim would think of that.”
Here's an extended version with more dialogue and personality for each of the characters
The trio walks into the shop, dirt and dried blood still clinging to their clothes. The shop owner, a gruff, middle-aged man with a weathered face, eyes them suspiciously. He sighs, clearly mistaking them for beggars. He reaches behind the counter and pulls out a stack of ragged clothes.
Shop Owner: walking over with a forced smile “Hey, fellas. I get it, you’re down on your luck. Probably came in hoping for some handouts, huh? Here, take these old rags and move along before you scare off the real customers.”
Zeldre exchanges a glance with Rim and Kurt before smirking. He crosses his arms casually.
Zeldre: “Actually, we’ve got money. Plenty of it.”
The shop owner looks them up and down, disbelief etched on his face.
Shop Owner: mocking “Sure you do. Right, I bet you’ve got, what… 10 pieces of gold between the three of you? Maybe enough for a couple of scraps.”
Kurt rolls his eyes, already feeling annoyed by the shopkeeper’s attitude. Rim, grinning wide, reaches into his pocket and slams 20 gleaming pieces of gold onto the counter. As if that wasn’t enough, he casually pulls out a jeweled dagger they’d looted from bandits earlier, spinning it in his hand before tossing it onto the pile.
Rim: smirking “How’s that for a few scraps, unc?”
The shop owner’s eyes widen in shock. He stares at the gold and the jeweled dagger as if he’s just seen a ghost. He stumbles back, nearly tripping over his own feet, before regaining his composure and quickly switching his tone.
Shop Owner: panicking “O-Oh, of course! My apologies, I—I didn’t realize! Please, my valued customers, feel free to look around! Anything you want! Finest silks, rarest items—take your time, no rush at all!”
Kurt snickers at the man’s sudden change of heart, nudging Zeldre.
Kurt: whispering “Man, look at him. He almost fainted just from seeing a few coins.”
Zeldre: smiling “Takes money to turn a beggar into royalty in his eyes, huh?”
Rim claps his hands, looking around the shop with excitement.
Rim: “Alright, let’s see what we can grab! Got any enchanted gear, unc? I’ve been meaning to upgrade my stuff and get a sword that’s really cool.”
Shop Owner: nervously chuckling “Oh, yes! Enchanted weapons, rare armor, anything you desire, young master! Right this way, please!”
Zeldre, Kurt, and Rim exchange smiles as they begin wandering through the shop, examining the various goods.
Zeldre: “Think we should get something for Nina and Gatto too?”
Kurt: grinning “Maybe. If they don’t mind it smelling like old leather.”
Rim flips a shiny dagger in his hand, testing its weight, before looking over his shoulder.
Rim: “Hey, unc! You got anything that doesn’t look like it’s been sitting here since before my grandparents were born?”
The shop owner hurries over, desperately trying to please his newfound wealthy customers.
Shop Owner: “Yes, yes! Right away! Let me bring out our best inventory from the back!”
He scrambles into a storage room, leaving the trio laughing among themselves.
Kurt: grinning “I think we broke him.”
Zeldre: smirking “Nah. We just reminded him that gold speaks louder than anything.”
As they continue browsing, Zeldre checks the time on his watch.
Zeldre: “Oh right, we were supposed to meet Gitu and Nina for breakfast. We need to hurry.”
Rim, still eyeing the merchandise, grumbles.
Rim: “Seriously? We just got here. I wanted to check out more stuff.”
Zeldre: “No time for that. We need to get moving.”
Kurt nods in agreement.
Kurt: “Yeah, food’s calling. Let’s go.”
Rim reluctantly heads towards the door, turning back to the shopkeeper.
Rim: “Thanks for everything, unc. And, uh, don’t judge people by their cover. Sometimes, we’re not what we seem.”
