SETOGIWA: A World On The Brink (Part 1)

Chapter 11: The King of The Futatabi

Chapter 11: The King of The Futatabi

Nov 25, 2024

The King of The Futatabi

Hayoku slowly observed the scene before slipping one of his hands into his pocket. He took a long sip from his mug and looked at them awkwardly.
"Huh, what?" Hayoku said, looking at the three who were scrambled in their own fight. Hayoku noticed the wounds on Akari and saw that Zenatori was gravely injured.

The automorph looked at Hayoku, purely stunned. But quickly switched to disdain and scorn.
"King of the Futatabi? The Futatabi generation is the newest generation of syneji artists and one of the weakest. It's not hard to become the strongest in such a soft era. But how dare he treat me like a weakling! I don't think I've seen such a human have such an elegant ego. It's as if he's trying to make a point here! I'll wipe the calm look off his fragile face in one attack!"

Akari dragged Zenatori's body near Hayoku and stared at him for a few moments. He suddenly coughed up blood and looked at Akari. He looked over and said.
"Tsuyo... Hayoku..?" He said as his lips quivered. Zenatori was unsure of how his body was taking such force. Without Akari's manifestation, he would've been obliterated by the automorph. He could only feel grateful towards her.

He suddenly remembered how strong the automorph is and saw Hayoku standing in the destroyed doorway. He then reached an arm out and yelled.
"Hayoku..!" He said as his chest heaved and he coughed up specs of blood.

Akari brought Zenatori back down and only let out a small smirk. It was the smirk you'd make with absolute victory, as if this fight was already won. Zenatori lay back down and entrusted Hayoku. Was this why Akari seemed so laid back during the entire time? Is Master Hayoku this powerful?

Hayoku saw Zenatori's attempt and briefly chuckled.
"Well, now that I know Zenatori's alive, I can afford to toy with you a bit. I'll turn this into a lesson of my own."

The automorph's forehead instantly creased. He reached his arm out and yelled.
"Kaigen Series: Skyward Ice!"

A blade of ice clipped through the wind and intercepted Hayoku in that same moment. It shook the entire room and created an effect akin to Zenatori's strike with just a simple attack. The still air became agitated, and dust filled the entire room, as the ceiling above crumbled against itself.

Zenatori looked through the dust and thought.
"How did Akari and I take no damage?"

Hayoku had completely vanished in the blast, and the automorph grinned.
"How boring that was. I didn't really catch any fulfillment from that." He turnt to the two and said.
"No more interruptions-" the sounds that occurred after the dust fell instilled uneasiness in his soul.

As the dust settled, the phoenix that rose from the ashes of the futatabi generation shrugged off the attack.
"So, an ice attack that just manipulates the air in front of you to send a wave of ice as an attack. That's quite impressive for an automorph."

The automorph frowned and said.
"That's quite impressive, isotonic force reinforcement. I suppose I underestimated you. But since you're forcing this on me, I won't hold back anything anymore. I'll ensure total annihilation for such a weak generation! I'll start with killing you and these punks!"

Hayoku looked at him, confused.
"Well, you can try that," he said as he took another sip of his coffee.

The automorph's ire had only grown.
"Kaigen Series, Absolute: Subzero!"

In a near instant, the air in the room screamed out as the factory leveled itself. The bricks crumbled against the floor, and the concrete exploded through the air and wedged itself into the outside grass. Sediment flew through the surrounding area, and the ground uprooted as the grand spell engulfed everything. A frost calm settled in as the organisms on the grass froze at an unprecedented speed.

The automorph looked at the scene and thought to himself.
"There's no way they survived that attack. I noticed that he was reinforcing his isotonic force to nullify my attack. My venerated sights of divinity aren't at the level to see other people's isotonic force yet, but I can see incremental changes to it. I blended my automorphic ability in the attack to bypass his reinforcements, and the kaigen series attack should have weakened the level he can output that isotonic force. I should head back to Father-"

Once again, the dust fell, and his mug wasn't even touched. The automorph paused for a brief moment before he uttered.
"How."

Hayoku rubbed the back of his neck.
"How what?"

"I didn't even use an isotonic force attack with isotonic force, and it still did no damage."

Hayoku then caressed his chin.
"Maybe you gotta try harder-"

He is then cut off.
"Don't make a fool of me! How are you doing that? That means you're not even using isotonic force reinforcements and you're using something with your syneji."

"Do you seriously expect me to tell you my tricks?"

"Well-"

"I sure will! It's my powerful defensive ability called the motionless carnation!"

"Motionless carnation..?"

"I don't feel like going into it, but pretty much I can manipulate the kinetic energy around me to reduce the friction on my body to the point of zero. I expanded the effective range in order to defend Akari and Zenatori."

The automorph thought for a moment.
"So he just has kinetic energy manipulation? Something like that lacks in the offense. That explains why he was standing, absorbing the attacks. Humans are significantly weaker than automorphs, so I should be able to defeat him just by using hand-to-hand combat."

The automorph lunged forward, and Hayoku didn't move an inch. As he jumped through the air and drove his fist at Hayoku, but it slid off his body, and the force was negated.

Hayoku briefly chuckled.
"So it seems you've attempted to overpower my isotonic force-based technique by reinforcing your own isotonic force. Sorry, that only works when your isotonic force is weaker than your opponent."

"You... YOU-"

In a flash, Hayoku was gone and was now behind the automorph. He struck the automorph back with a right cross and flung it out of the city and into the nearby forest. Hayoku strafed the being and grabbed it by its arm and chucked it through the air. Its body broke through multiple trees, and it crushed itself against the weight of the air tumbling through like a bowling ball.

Hayoku then raced in front of it, kicked it backward, and the force flew it back through the rubble of the factory, and blood flew out of its mouth.
"This is the king of the Futatabi, Father warned me about. He's not only physically superior, but his mastery of isotonic force dwarfs mine. What is this guy?!"

The automorph rose from the rubble and coughed up some more blood. Hayoku slowly walked toward him and said.
"I don't like showing off my abilities, but since this is supposed to be a lesson, I'll show off a bit. I'll make sure to hold back a bit in order not to destroy literally everything."

The automorph looked back and saw the deathly stare from Hayoku. Suddenly, fire emitted from Hayoku's hand, and it glistened as it rose through the cracks in between his fingers.
"Fire..? What correlation does that have with kinetic energy? Does he have a second syneji?!" it hurriedly thought.

Hayoku looked back at Zenatori and Akari to make sure they were in the range of his motionless carnation. He raised his arm out and finally said.
"Kaigen Series, Absolute: Conflagration."

The automorph looked up and saw the grin form on Hayoku's face. The inferno blazed through the entire area, and the fire emitted from Hayoku's hand was so powerful that the grass was turnt to a black ash. The automorph's skin was tearing off and muscle began to show but was nearly instantly, burnt to crisp.

After the havoc laid. The ashes settled and the automorph's corpse was on the ground, completely charred. Hayoku slightly smiled and said.
"Well, that was interesting-" he paused.

The automorph replaced the burnt skin with a fresh matt and its wounds repaired themself. He looked at Hayoku and turnt to run. He tumbled against the ground as he hurried in a retreat. Hayoku slightly frowned.

Akari looked at him and said.
"You're just going to let him leave?!"

Hayoku chuckled.
"Of course not! I was just deciding whether or not I should do it."

Zenatori looked up in slight surprise.
"Do what?"

Hayoku turnt back.
"Zenatori, remember the supreme manifestation I told you about?"
