Anopheles dirus (Diptera: Culicidae) are flies (Yes, mosquitos are dipteran, thus under the fly order) that are common vector of Plasmodium sp. in some regions of Indonesia, including in Kalimantan (Borneo). The parasite they carry is the main cause of malaria disease.
I have to so say, I am fascinated with the anatomy of mosquitos. They way they use the mouthparts for sucking blood is very interesting.
