Fleeting Survival, Part 3

After Hayoku left, the nurse entered to check on Zenatori. She held a clipboard in her hand and sat on the dinky wooden stool.
"My name is Jojo Koshaka, and boy, I had to do wonders to heal your wounds."

Zenatori skeptically thought.
"Heal?"

She continued, noticing the questioning look on Zenatori's face.
"Oh, I'm the new one, I'd make sense you don't understand. There is a syneji method known as the reactionary vitality method. It comes in two forms, one called the isotonic vitality method and the other known as the reactionary vitality method."

Zenatori quietly nodded.
"What separates the two?"

"There is something known as reactionary osmosis, and to keep it simple, it's basically a chain reaction of you inputting your own isotonic force while it converges with isotonic energy. It's incredibly difficult to pull off, hence the reason I'm the only one in this school who can do the reactionary vitality method. The isotonic vitality method is the same, but you don't combine the isotonic energy and only input isotonic force.

But the key difference lies in the healing factor; the isotonic vitality method is limited to cuts or to closing an open wound. The reactionary vitality method is the closest thing that humans have to an automorph's healing factor. It allows you to heal severed limbs, huge gashes, bones, and organs.

However, because it requires you to input isotonic energy, it takes fragments of your soul and hits them against itself. Now this wouldn't be a problem, but isotonic energy is required to support your physical attributes, so it wears out your physical body, physically weakening you over time.

In conclusion, the isotonic vitality method is much simpler but still hard to learn, while the reactionary vitality method is an incredibly complex method that requires you to either innately know it, or you just are incredibly smart."

Zenatori thought upon the information for a moment and said.
"If you're inputting isotonic force and energy, wouldn't that heal you and not me?"

A faint smile curled over her face.
"You're quite quick on the uptake. That would be true, but my syneji allows me to separate the flows on how I output isotonic force. This allows me to output it differently and form the reactionary vitality method. The only flaw with healing others is that I have to interact with other people's isotonic energy, which slows the healing speed drastically. It also physically weakens the other temporarily due to the adjustment of their isotonic energy."

Zenatori silently thought.
"So that's why Hayoku didn't heal me, there's no doubt he can use it, as strong as he is, it's just that he can't heal others. Judging by Akari's description, it seems that she wields a dynamic syneji."

He then slightly felt the scar and had a sudden realization.
"If the reactionary vitality method is that strong, why didn't you heal the gash on my stomach?"

She softly smiled.
"Oh, that? That was just a little something for you to remember. Hayoku didn't tell me much about what happened, but it sounded like it's something you need to remember."

Zenatori thought about it momentarily but dusted it aside. He finally stretched up and said.
"Thanks, but I'll be leaving now."

"Are you sure you want to get up already? Your wounds were quite severe."

Zenatori looked back and said.
"Trust me, I'll be ok."

He slipped his legs off the blanket, and his feet hit the floor. As he went to leave, the nurse stopped him.
"You aren't going to change your clothes? I'd prefer you change here, we don't want a student with a bloodied uniform walking the halls," she said as she pointed to a new change of clothes on a desk next to the bed.

She turned around and let him change his clothes. As his pants rustled down, she said.
"By the way, what's your name, kid?"

"Sakatoro Zenatori."

"I'll make sure to remember that."

After changing clothes, he trudged along the hallway and finally made it to his dorm room. He gracefully thought.
"So much happened today, I'm surprised that I'll live to see the next. I can't wait to pancake on my bed."

As he turnt the corner, he saw a mysterious male figure awaiting his door. As he looked closer, his lean figure was shown through his school uniform. His long ruby hair was softly laid on his well-developed shoulders, and his elbows rested on each other as he leaned against the wall.

He looked at Zenatori and said.
"I knew something was off with you the minute you transferred."

Zenatori questioningly stared back and remarked.
"Huh..?"

"Who exactly are you, Sakatoro Zenatori?"

After processing those words, Zenatori thought about the current situation.
"I take it that he likely got my name from the syneji regiments app, but how did he find my dorm? What does he mean by, who am I? I got a bad feeling about this..."

Nonetheless, he took a slow gulp and continued the confrontation.
"What exactly do you mean by that?"

"You should know, transfers in this school are exceedingly rare. No one sits there and randomly discovers they can use isotonic force. The only way is for you to be in a blood line, or another syneji artist notices you have isotonic force, and that is likely what happened, what a rare predicament."

"Nice deduction. I'm going to my room."

Zenatori walked to open his door, but in a near instant, he rushed in the way, before Zenatori could even touch the knob. Zenatori momentarily froze, acknowledging the scene.
"That speed..."

He slightly smirked and continued.
"It will just be a small chat, there's no reason to be so hasty."

Zenatori stepped back and let him continue.
"What is it you want?"

"I just want to get to know you, transfer student."

"Why are you saying that like it's a slur?"

"You're quite the funny guy, I see."

He palmed the wall next to him and advanced on Zenatori.
"I'm not sure if you have some grand reason for being here, but this school doesn't accept transfer students!"

He lifted his arm and put itched the back of his neck.
"Ah, sorry, that one slipped out. Nishikiri, let's go."

Suddenly, a slightly short white white-haired girl walked from the other side of the hallway. Her crystal white short-cut pearl hair swayed as she glistened through the walkway.

Zenatori took notice of her calm demeanor and slightly blushed. The man looked at him and said.
"Don't get any ideas, kid."

As he turnt around and said.
"The names, Suda Katashi. I hope you prove yourself in this exam."

He footsteps finally echoed through the hallways as her quiet footsteps sounded through the hall as well.
