Herbivores as pets

I read many articles about creating or not creating a vegetarian diet for dogs/cats, and most of them have polemic and controversial opinions.
As far as I understood, a dog can be a vegetarian, but it’s VERY hard and you’ll have to be very rigorous and careful on its diet. And for a cat it’s impossible, because it seems they can’t survive without taurine.
Unfortunately, most of them are in my mother language and I can’t link them here.
So I though, why not have a bunny instead? They are so cute and full of love to give. And the way they look so happy when they see a piece of vegetal is so cute my heart melts.
