Eyes of Chronos

Children of the stars (2)

Children of the stars (2)

Jan 05, 2025

The world I perceived had changed drastically. All colors seemed to saturate. The reds were redder, the blues bluer, and the blacks blacker. Intense colors blended like in an impressionist painting.

At that moment, my vision became blurry and, although my mind felt light, it was clear. I felt like a castaway floating in the sea of consciousness.

Gradually, the environment became more perceptible. All colors returned to their original state while a grayish and blurry fog emanated. Around me were bodies that were difficult to describe. There were transparent objects that did not seem to exist in the physical plane. In the background, I observed clusters of pure light in different colors. This light seemed to possess a life of its own or contain an immense knowledge that I could not completely comprehend.

Gradually, the environment became more perceptible. All colors returned to their original state while a grayish and blurry fog emanated. Around me were bodies that were difficult to describe. There were transparent objects that did not seem to exist. In the background, there were clusters of pure light in different colors. The light seemed to possess life or contain an immense knowledge.

Suddenly, I realized something, which made my consciousness sink abruptly and merge with me. The fog quickly dissipated and the colors returned to normal. The bright and clear halo and the non-existent objects disappeared instantly.

The scene in the room returned to normal, but I felt my head swelling. I felt as if it were being torn off. Whatever I was seeing had innumerable residual images. My ears were overwhelmed by an ethereal murmur. I frowned and quickly shook my head.

—Is your vision abnormal? Are you also hearing things you didn't hear before? —said my mother, beside me, with a hidden smile.

—No, I'm fine now, mom. —I looked at my body and discovered that nothing abnormal had happened. I moved my limbs and, between expectation and doubt, asked—: Did I do it? Am I now considered an Ascendant?

My mother took out a mercury plate that looked like a mirror and put it in front of me.

—Look at your eyes.

I focused my gaze and saw that my eyes were a different color. My silhouette stood out and my facial features seemed normal. Apart from having my face covered in sweat, I didn't seem different in any way. I followed my mother's instructions and looked carefully at my eyes. Only then did I discover that my blue eyes had become much deeper, of a purple tone.

—This is usually a physical manifestation of your class powers, but yours seem different. Tell me, do you feel you possess an ability you didn't have?

I concentrated and tried to look in my mind. —That doesn't seem to be the case.

My mother put a hand to her chin, thoughtful. — How odd. It seemed to be an innate ability.

—Mom, what is an innate ability?

—Innate Abilities are those abilities that form at birth. These abilities are fixed from birth and cannot be changed or taught to others. They are congenitally recorded in the user's body, specifically in the right prefrontal cortex of the brain.

—Oh, really? Sounds quite special. By any chance, does my sister Anastasia possess an innate ability?

Adelaide looked at me with a strange smile. —Of course, although they are quite rare, Anastasia also possesses an innate ability. If I'm not mistaken, its name was: The Dragon's Awakening.

—I understand —I began to unconsciously rub the bridge of my nose while my brain spun, trying to process all the information I had received.

Only then did I realize how exhausted I was, that I could fall asleep at any moment. My mind hurt as if I had been awake for three nights.

My mother said with a little laugh: —My son, you must rest. As you know, awakening is not easy, the load on body and mind is great, so you will need to sleep a little more until your body gets used to it. Now you can return and rest well. Tomorrow, I will continue teaching you more.

Early in the morning, at the family breakfast, the atmosphere was welcoming. Opening the window, bird chirps could be heard. The next day, Adelaide was busy from morning, and inside the curved kitchen, the sounds of a knife cutting things could be heard.

—How are you, kids? —I heard my father Atlas greet with his characteristic smile.

They were happy days, really. This was all I needed to be happy.

«Why didn't I understand this before?»

The most ordinary days were the most precious, it is for them that we shed tears, remembering past happiness. This is the daily life of people.

Only when they took away these days of peace and this ordinary life did I understand this.

While waiting for breakfast, I observed my mother completely dedicating herself to food preparation. She was wearing an apron while preparing breakfast, which matched the entire retro aesthetic of the house. The pink hearts embroidered on the fabric combined with the ceramic tile of the sink.

Anastasia observed from her position on the counter.

—Everyone, come eat. When you feel bad, you need to eat something delicious. —What mom had prepared was similar to a thick soup.

—Wow! Thanks for the food. —Anastasia ran excitedly and sat in her chair.

When Adelaide served her portion, Anastasia lifted a spoonful of the soup and became rigid.

Then, suddenly, she made a bright smile.

—Kuu, as expected... It's delicious! —Then she started eating excessively.

I obediently nodded while observing the sugary atmosphere surrounding us as we ate and thought that getting married was something very good.

Love transformed every moment into something special.

My mother, with a spoon in her hand, addressed my father:

— Come on, say "Ahh" —she told him with a mischievous smile.

My father, somewhat embarrassed, responded:

— Hey, the kids are watching... —It was rare to see my father get nervous.

Then my mother added, looking at us:

— Mom and dad look very good together, don't they, kids?

Anastasia and I responded at the same time:

— Oh, yes... That's true —and then we looked at each other and laughed.

I constantly experienced this in this life. A feeling of fullness that completely enveloped me.

Suddenly, I felt overwhelmed by an oppressive stressful sensation, as if time was escaping me.

«What did this strange sensation mean?»

I was sitting at the table, and in front of me were my smiling parents, holding a spoon.

Seeing how happy they were, I simply sighed, realizing that love was truly magical.
