Little Deal

Little Deal

Jan 14, 2025

===Canan===
Mother is going to kill me. Well that's only if she finds out about my little deal I've made with the Goddess of Love poetry, Erato.
I sigh running a hand through my hair as the girls chatter amongst themselves with glee. They're estatic about the new contract their sister has made with me. Yet another artist to inspire.
I watch as she grins and chuckles to her sisters who tease her about how picky she once was with choosing her artist and how she decided me in only the span of a few days.
"Is he a writer?" I hear Terpsichore ask as she adjusts her hold on her boquet of roses.
Erato opens her mouth but Euterpe beats her to it. "He's a musician."
Her brows furrow in confusion. "A musician?"
"Thats quite out of character." Melpomene chimes in.
Clio tilts her head in thought. "Erato has had musicians before."
"True, but they are typically very different." Terpischore adds.
"Well Canan is different." Erato smirks glancing over her shoulder to me.
I walk beside Euterpe with my hands in my trench coat pocket and can't help the small pull in the corner of my mouth as she continues. "A composition he wrote transcended into my understanding."
"Wow," Terpischore sighs standing taller. "I assume it was also a paino." She asks her emerald eyes looking to me.
"Also?" I ask with a raise of my brow.
"Erato has a thing for piano's" Euterpe chuckles.
Erato rolls her eyes. "Don't call it a thing." She sighs. "Just a keen feeling for harps and piano's I tend to feel the feelings of those who use these instruments and compose love songs with them."
"Similar to Euterpe?" I wonder.
"No," The girls say in complete unison.
Euterpe gives an angelic giggle. "I can see the memories of those who compose music and feel their feelings which they incorporate into their pieces. The more intense the feelings the more clear the visions which I can see. Erato can not typically see visions at all." Her eyes slide to her sister with small curiousity.
"Yes," Erato says softly. "I don't see visions."
They fall silent which makes me nervous like they both have a secret they haven't told anyone before.
I'm not necessarily an alluring person like my mother nor do I have clairvoyance like my sister but I am perceptive to the actions of those around me and can clearly tell that these two are witholding information. Meaning that Erato did see a vision and it was most likely with me. The son of Aphrodite.
Why was she trying to hide the fact that I was Aphrodite's son. Did Euterpe know? Most likely not considering Erato told me not to tell any of them. Then again perhaps it was something to do with my mother causing mischief in her past. It was never enough to be beautiful she had to be every bit of beautiful to every eye that saw her but then again there would be a never ending supply of eyes so I suppose her thirst for beauty will never be quenched.
"Is Canan coming home with us?" Terpischore asks sweetly.
All the girls stop walking immediatley and look to her with a sense of dread.
"We didn't tell her." Euterpe mumbles.
Terpischore chuckles. "Tell me what."
Clio places a hand to her mouth. "How could we forget."
"Forget what."
"I mean she wasn't in the room" Euterpe adds.
"In the room for what."
"Tragedy." Melpomene mumbles.
Erato chuckles softly. "Stop being dramatic Melpomene." She looks to her sister Terpischore. "Calli told me not to make a deal with Canan. Mother was going to erase his memory if I did."
"She did?" Terpischore and I said at the same time.
Erato nods her head. "Yes, due to your association."
Terpischore turns to me and narrows her eyes. "Who are you associated with?"
I glance between the girls who apparently all know I have some form of a relation to Aphrodite. "Aphrodite." I mumble.
She gasps and then glares to Erato. "Are you crazy why would you make a contract with someone who is associated with her of all people. I would even accept if it was Hades."
"He's dead." Melpomene mumbles softly.
Terpischore shakes her head. "Doesn't matter what I mean is that this contract isn't a very smart one especially with everything she's done to yo-" Erato shoots her a look that makes her cover her mouth with one hand and look away.
"You're right Terpischore." She looks over at me. "It is dangerous but I needed a contract and I sensed that he is someone who will create indescrible beauty with his music." She grumbles softly as Erato continues. "Besides I didn't have many options so I choose a good and accessible one."
I clear my throat. "I'm only associated through her because my parents made a deal with her and now she wishes to make a deal with me."
Terpischore scoffs. "Aphrodite is still prowling upon the desperation of human love, huh?"
I look down suddenly feeling somewhat ashamed as if my mother's actions are my own fault. "Yes, yes she is."
"Does she still tear relationships apart in an attempt to give the remedy." Clio asks with a tilt of her head.
I take a breath as I recollect on my brother whom she had no problem doing that to. "Yes, she still does."
"So," Terpischore sighs. "Aphrodite knows we exist?"
"Not exactly." I add. "She knows Erato is still existing she may assume you all are too but there is no definitive way she knows for sure whether you are still around making deals."
"Have you told her?" Euterpe asks with a face I had never seen, it was threatening.
I shake my head. "No and I wouldn't have told her about Erato either if she had not fainted in front of me."
The girls look amongst each other as if they are debating internally with one another.
Finally Terpischore speaks softly and as sweetly as Euterpe. "Yes then," She meets my eyes. "I suppose it is best for him not to meet mother yet. We will ease the idea onto her slowly.
"Good idea," Clio mumbles. "Be a shame if his memories were erased before we can hear what music Erato helps him make."
Erato smiles but there is a ounce of pain in her smile as if she is hiding a deeper thought.
The girls come to a slow halt in front of a parking garage. "So I suppose this is goodbye for now." Melpomene smiles.
"It was a pleasure to meet all of you." I say giving the kindest smile possible.
Clio returns the same amount of warmth. "The pleasure was all ours." She says for her sisters.
Erato moves beside me as I watch the five girls wave with smiling faces.
"Are you not coming?" Euterpe asks melodically.
Erato stands straighter. "If it's alright with you Canan may I ride with you."
"Business already." Terpischore sighs. "That's just like you Erato."
She gives a weak smile in return to her sister then looks to me for confirmation.
Wanting to know more about her and the plans she has in store for us I hastily nod. "Of course please do."
She smiles a real genuine smile at me, one that wrinkles her nose ever so slightly. She looks to her sisters for any lingering doubts that they may or may not have.
"Well then," Melpomene mumbles. "I suppose we will see you at home." She says turning away.
"See you at home." The others mumble as they head into the parking garage.
We wave until they are out of sight and then she looks to me her facial expression not nearly as close to the smile she showed moments before she appears fearful as the corner of her lips turn down and her eyes droop almost with sneaking suspicion.
She sighs. "Where did you park?"
"Just a block down on the street." I respond pointing down the dwindling crowd of people on the street.
She nods. "Well then let's hurry."
She starts to walk and I follow closely beside her so we have no reason to speak louder then neccessary.
"We have a problem." She says softly. "I didn't think it would present itself as a problem but now that we are bounded by a contract which still needs further soldification I need to address the extent of my powers."
"And what is that."
Her eyes slide to me slow and cold. "You lack passion."
I tilt my head side to side. "Not neccesarily."
"You are in denial."
I squint my eyes. "I can compose."
She stops and looks at me. "You are having artist block, Canan."
I turn to her and shrug my shoulders. "It's not that bad."
She rolls her eyes and continues walking. "I can clearly see you have no inspiration."
"But I can be fixed with a muse?" I ask softly. "Right?"
She groans and rolls her eyes. "I can only do so much, there still has to be a spark of something." She rubs her head as she steps from a curb to the crosswalk. "After hearing your last compostion I was very hopeful you had some form of a feeling to feed off of but you're extremley stable."
"Is that a bad thing."
She tilts her head side to side. "No it's a great thing but emotions are what fuels the power which I bestow in order for you to potray those feelings and for me specifically it has to be something you love."
"I love music."
Her eyes narrow as she looks at me. "You used to love music." She sighs. "To me it feels like your losing your footing in that feeling."
She was right I was experincing an art block of some kind. Maybe it was because of the bantering with my mother, or the classes I constantly had or maybe it was even because I no longer had someone to write for but nevertheless if what my sister said was true then by all means I had to be somewhat of a profitable contractee for Erato otherwise mother's quench for power would never stop.
"Then what do you think I should do, oh great Muse of Love Poetry." I sigh.
She cringes and that small expression gives me satisfaction almost as if she knows her own title is a bit cheesy.
She clears her throat. "Love is an immensley powerful thing. It can destroy and create in but a few instances. We have to find something you love and channel that otherwise my powers will dwindle and your compositions without me will utterly suck."
I scoff. "They didn't before you so why would they with you."
She glares. "Because you would be forcing the feeling and forced feelings are never conveyed beautifully. I'm a lovely guage for you Canan, a deal with me clearly will benefit you, I can see it. But if were not careful we will end up destroying one another." She stops walking and looks at me. "So tell me Aphrodite's son." Her eyes shine like the moon. "Do you trust me."
I have no other options. "I trust you, manifistation of humans writing love."
She smirks and that's all the trust I need to succeed.
