Nephila pilipes (Araneae: Nephilidae) displays sexual dimorphism (female and male look different) where females are gigantic, reaching around 20 cm length. The genus name came from ancient greek: nein (spinning thread) and philos (love). By the way, they are arachnids, not insects.
