School seemed to drag on today. Charlie was constantly staring out the window and over to some trees. His mind set on only thinking of that girl and nothing else. Even Daniel seemed to catch on as he had asked multiple times about what Charlie was thinking about so deeply. He just brushed him off though.
When they got to their Geography class, Charlie had completely lost focus and just zoned out. Pretending to read his book.
He heard shuffling next to him and chairs being moved around, but he was so far elsewhere with his thoughts that he barely even registered it.
At lunchtime, he did eat some food, but he felt bad. His thoughts made it hard to stomach even a sandwich. Thinking of saving as much for the girl as he could.
The only thing snapping him out of his head was a hit on his back.
"Oi, Sleepyhead!" Of course it was Daniel.
"What's been going on with you all day? Don't tell me you're getting sick again; you barely ate anything." He had a knack for exaggerating, it made Charlie sigh.
"Just don't feel well. I'll be okay," Charlie muttered, realizing that the class was over. He had forgotten where he even was. He looked around and saw that they were the last people left in the classroom. He sprang up from his chair and started stuffing his things into his backpack, while Daniel was still going on about how weird he was being.
"I'm sorry, I'll make it up to you tomorrow, I know the last BfoN season started airing today. Please don't be mad; but I haven't seen it yet." Daniel just huffed next to him. "Come on, you told me to watch it! I wouldn't have started it without you pestering me."
Charlie had to console the guy on their way out of the school and promise to talk about the first episodes together the next day.
The second Daniel was out of sight, Charlie started walking as fast as he could to the forest. He thought if he had started running, people would stare at him and he was nervous that he would look stupid and fall on his face.
The wind was stronger today, but it wasn't that cold yet. The birds were quieter and Charlie wasn't sure if he would even find her.
He searched for her for a long time, but she was nowhere to be found.
He felt like he might lose his mind. Did he make her up? Was she just shy and nothing was wrong?
But her pale skin looked sick, and her eyes were tired. The girl's voice had stuck with him and he couldn't shake it off. As if it was refusing to. Something deep inside him told him, that she was important and that he shouldn't have let her go. Her face had etched itself into his memory and he couldn't stop from wanting to find her.
A strong gust of wind came and Charlie suddenly felt cold. All he did was search for her while thinking of the worst outcome.
What if she was hurt?
He couldn't stop himself; every part of his brain seemed to revolve around that girl. Completely enamored, with thought that were only about her. Every minute he couldn't find her, he began to panic more.
Would she be okay when he did find her?
Perhaps she didn't want to be found, at least not by him. She seemed to dislike him, and the thought made him nauseous. He couldn't understand why. What was so important about her?
Her dead, cold eyes felt like they had stared directly into his soul, making him freeze on the spot. Who was that? Her hands had trembled, and only now did Charlie remember that she was barefoot when they had met.
What about her made Charlie so interested in her?
What if she was dead?
The thought stopped him in his tracks.
No, she couldn't be...right? Maybe she was thin and sick, but she wasn't doing that bad, was she? Charlie thought about the night and how it had been cold. He thought about the blanket he had tossed and turned under and how she didn't have one. She didn't seem to have anything. His breath got faster and he could feel his lungs burning.
He was comfortable in his bed, but she looked like she was homeless. He had gotten food, and she was starving. Suddenly, he didn't even know where he was anymore. Completly disoriented, The forest looked like an entirely different place now. Had he gotten lost? Had she gotten lost?
Every thought lead to her,
And every one of them made him feel even more sick. The small lunch he had, suddenly seemed to weigh ten tones and his legs to be made out of sticks. His skin was cold but there was no wind; it wasn't winter yet, and Fall had barely even started. But his clothes clung to him like he had gotten thrown into the ocean. And his hands felt like they were made out of wood.
He could not stand up anymore.
But what about the girl?
Stop being selfish
She needs your help
What is wrong with you
Where was she?
You need to find her
How could he even start?
She could be dead right now
His knees fell to the ground.
Find her
He didn't even know where he was...
Find her
He couldn't feel his limbs anymore...
FIND HER
His lungs were on fire...
