During our time in high society, I had come across Duke of Barton several times from afar.
On those occasions, he would dance happily with his fiancée and smile cheerfully.
All the women admired Raymond because he had looks and status. But one fact was known to everyone. He had already had his heart stolen.
His dark brown hair and green eyes made him resemble a mysterious forest that no one dared to approach.
Because he was an army commander, he had a stronger build than other men his age, all of which made him even more impressive.
When the door opened, the person who entered was the Duke and not him at the same time.
Instead of the green eyes he was famous for. Now they were blood red.
He also had horns on his head as if someone had intentionally made him look like the devil.
I remembered the head maid’s words. So I clenched my fist as hard as I could. I felt some of my nails scratch my hand.
“I’m sorry you had to see this, my lady,” he said to me.
“What-.....what happened to you?” I asked in a nervous voice.
“This? It’s my family’s curse, after my big brother died it passed on to me” he said then added
“I know I look horrible, even Camellia refuses to see me in this state”
I felt an ominous feeling but asked “What do you want from me?”
I felt my whole body tremble when those words left my lips because I somehow knew I wouldn’t like the answer.
He looked down and paused for a while, and after a few seconds he said the scariest thing I’ve ever heard in my life
“I want you to give birth to my firstborn son so that the curse can pass from me to him.”
“Are you crazy?!!!” I replied
“Trust me. I feel bad saying this, but the enemy is on the border and my knights need me to lead them”
“Why should I care?! Just go and help them like this… It’s not like you lost your hands or anything like that” I said in an angry tone.
“It’s not that easy, you know how religious our country is. If anyone sees me like this they will accuse me of worshipping the devil and will burn everyone I know alive.”
“That’s not my problem unlike you I won’t simply pass my problem on to my children” I said these words as I stood up to leave.
I opened the door and there were two guards standing there.
I kept my head up and started walking then made my steps bigger then ran as fast as I could. But the guards simply caught me.
No matter how much I screamed, my voice echoed in the palace. As a signal to let me know that there was no one to save me.
