The next morning I was right, I woke up and the room was spinning and I felt terrible. I got up from my bed and walked over to my door to leave my room, not paying attention that I was wearing last night's clothes, a rugged, tattered, and dirty undershirt with rolled up, old pants. I walked down the hall and to the stairs, I got down a few steps before I stopped and sat down on the stairs. If I keep walking down the stairs the spinning and pounding in my head gets worse. So I just sat there on the steps…After sometime the pounding was still there but faint and everything wasn't spinning as much either so I stood up and finished walking down the rest of the stairs. I walked out of the castle, to the back where the garden is and the small maze. I made my way to the center of the maze and sat on the swing that had been tied to the tree. I knew my way in and out of the maze, mostly because I came here a lot to get away from my parents and everyone else. I sat there swinging back and forth lightly, thinking as the wind made the tree’s leaves shake, birds sing or fly over.
I was thinking, getting lost in thought, not worrying or tracking the time. The time flew by fast, everyone was looking for me. My parents were a bit worried after I wasn't at breakfast or in my room, so they started searching for me in the castle. Of course they panicked thinking I had done something and got myself in trouble. After a while I heard my sister and another person walking through the maze searching for me, I couldn't quite make out the second voice yet. They kept waking and talking trying to get their way through the maze. After sometime they finally got to the center, I didn't notice mostly because my brain was still fuzzy from being drunk a bit and I was zoning out.
“Ren?!” I looked over quickly to see Anne with a girl…A knight from a different kingdom that ours was allies with.
“Yes?...”
“Ren, what are you doing out here without telling someone and you should be in bed, you're hungover?!”
“I'm fine the fresh air helps…. who's that Anne?” I looked at her and the other girl.
“This is Lea…. she's the knight from our allied Kingdom I've been writing to.” Anne said with a hue of pink spreading across her face.
“Oh~ I see…” I smirk at her.
“Nice to meet you Lea, you must be very good friends with Anne then.” I said taking the opportunity to tease Anne on purpose as she blushes deeper at what I say.
“It's nice to meet you too Ren and I am very good friends with Anne.” She winked at Anne and I was loving the fact that Lea joined in making Anne more red, but after a bit of a conversation I went back to the castle leaving them alone in the maze. When I was back in the castle I saw my parents talking with a few knights and one was Raine. I wanted to apologize for snapping and being an ass last night so I waited until my parents left and finished, when they did I grabbed him and pulled him into an empty hallway.
“Oh, hey Ren there you are, we've been looking for you.”
“I'm sorry for snapping and being an ass last night…”
“It's fine Ren.” I looked up at him, still pretty hungover and quite bold and blunt, I guess and he was smiling and trying not to laugh.
“What's so funny, Raine?”
“Nothing, just what you're wearing.” He was laughing now but softly and I couldn't help but chuckle a bit too.
“You're such a pain in my ass, Raine.”
“But you can't deny you like us hanging out.”
“Maybe I do, maybe I don't.”
“Don't hide it Ren I know you do.”
“Fine, maybe a little but don't get so cocky now, Raine.” I said as I leaned against the wall.
“Oh I will.”
“You're so annoying you know that.”
“But you like it don't you Ren.”
“....I do not..that is NOT true.” He chuckled,
“Sure…” I rolled my eyes at him which only made him laugh a bit more.
“If you don't stop laughing, Raine I swear..”
“What Ren?...Hm?..What are you gonna do?~..”
“Ughh!..you're so annoying!..”
“But you're still friends with me and you still hang out around me.”
“Frenemies…What does that have to do with anything?!..”
“It just proves my point, that's what.”
“You're really a pain in my ass.”
“I know you've made that very clear, Ren.”
“Doesn't seem like I have.”
“Oh, You've made it very clear…” He said, stepping closer in front of me.
My breath catches at how close we are but I don't show it, at least. Neither of us break eye contact and God I could just melt into those eyes any day. I’ll never tell him now at least…UGH why does he have to be such a hot, probably most likely straight knight and I have to be the most gay prince. I haven’t ever admitted yet to anyone but Anne yet…Ironic isn’t it. Yeah, yeah I get it. His voice was soft and quiet.
“Unless you want to somehow make it more clear…Ren?..” He smirked, damn did I die, and I could hear the teasing in his tone. He's such a lovable asshole.
“I’m good, I think I've made it quite clear.” I kept the same tone he did.
“Really, because most of the time you always try to make your point Ren..”
