(Orilis) Ch. 5.3

“Of course.” Leon said simply, “how could I not pass over a chance to see my dear sister? We are family after all.” 

I was tempted to laugh at the statement. After all he did? Like hell Liv thought of him as a brother, at least not as she used to. 

Son of a bitch better pray to the goddess is on his side today.  

I glanced sideways at Liv, worried that she would take this development poorly 

She was frozen in place, her eyes open and wide with a mixture of shock, pain and hatred. 

Liv had taken Leon’s betrayal hard and neither me nor her had ever been able to find an underlying reason for his betrayal since he had originally agreed to help us out. 

This was the worst possible person to have shown up besides Arivis. 

And the least expected, Leon was incredibly loyal to the guild even before he betrayed Liv. I can’t think of any reason that he would risk his status there. Especially not for a drunk bastard who wants to kidnap a prince for helping his child escape the guild.

No, none of this makes any sense. Leon isn't the type to change overnight much less go rogue and risk everything he has. 

I pursed my lips, this was not good, regardless of Leons intentions he was as skilled as Liv and that would be a large problem especially since Liv probably wouldn't be able to fight him with the intent to kill. She had to many memories of her caring older brother figure that she still had yet to differentiate her protective older brother from the right hand of the most dangerous assassin guild in all of Heliva. And from the sounds outside the door, Leon had brought friends. 

Definitely not good. 

I motioned to Veron in sign language, it was a simple message but enough to get the point across about the change in our situation as he was the only one of us that had never met Leon and wouldn't recognize his voice.

Anger flickered across his face, Veron had been told about Liv’s past and had put two and two together. 

Liv, who had been listening intently during this time, raised a hand from the couch as she silently rose, displaying four fingers, signifying precisely four people behind the door. I was surprised at the cold look on her face. I guessed she was in fact more pissed then she was hurt, at least for now. 

Having never been wrong before I nodded at Liv and made sure to adjust my stance to a looser position, knowing I would have to be hyper aware of my environment since there would be one assassin not actively engaged with anyone outright. I prayed to the goddess that it wouldn't be Leon for all of our sakes.
